Nestled in a prime location for town exploration, Palazzo Catalani offers a blend of convenience and old-world charm, with many guests commending its picturesque views and ample amenities. Visitors are enchanted by its garden atmosphere and cozy European flair, although the value proposition is questioned, particularly regarding the food prices. The rooms, noted for their space and occasional terraces, receive praise, despite some reports of lighting and temperature issues. Cleanliness and service are generally well-regarded, with staff members earning accolades for their helpfulness, though an isolated complaint about service does exist.

It was such a pleasure to stay at Palazzo Catalani as the accommodation and staff are just amazing; the twow is beautiful, albeit that you need a strong pair of legs to uget around.
We also used Soriane as base to see many other attraction in Lazio and Tuscany.

Wonderful place to stay, quaint village, friendly multilingual staff! The WiFi was a bit slow, and operating hours of eating establishments in the village are not usually posted and best described as “on village time.” It’s hard to find a meal unless early morning pastry or random late night eatery found open, but this property is probably one of the nicer accommodations in the area and is very clean. The hotel restaurant is open most evenings, reasonably priced and very tasty!

My wife and I just returned from our first visit to Soriano nel Cimino, where we stayed at Palazzo Catalani. We weren't sure what to expect when we first arrived - it was nearly impossible to figure out exactly how to find the property, because it's located up the hill on not much more than an alley way, which we passed twice while looking for it.

Once we did, we were thrilled. The property is a very charming 17th century villa that has been nicely updated but still retains a lot of its history, including a sitting room that makes you feel like you're back in the 1600's as you lounge there. The views from the property are spectacular and the meals at their restaurant were among the best dinners we had while in Italy for the week.

The thing that really set the property apart for us was the staff. To a person, everyone we met was cheerful, helpful, and bent over backwards to provide excellent service. Everyone we interacted with was a delight, but the person who really stood out for us was Gian Paulo, who worked the front desk on the evening shift. The personal attention and professionalism he showed us would be right at home at a Ritz Carlton.

Lastly, the location was great for visiting many of the great sites in the countryside north of Rome. We enjoyed several days driving around and visiting as many as we could. The hotel staff were great at recommending the best places to put on our "do not miss" list, for which we are very grateful.

All in all, it was a great trip, made special by the staff and property of Palazzo Catalani!

What can I say? Soriano is quaint and beautiful, and I would recommend Palazzo Catalani as the perfect place to stay in Soriano if it weren't for the staff.

The staff is unwelcoming, unhelpful and at times rude and argumentative.

Clean sheets and towels? Room service? After five days using the same towels you'll have to argue with the staff and twist arms to get clean towels and sheets.

Do you want to eat dinner at the restaurant? Or even just drink some water and enjoy a bit of bread as a snack? Make a reservation - even if the restaurant is empty as a tomb (which it always is) - or no soup for you!!

One waitress was so rude and obvious with the stink eye my traveling companion refused to allow her to serve us. Life is too short to take attitude from people you're paying to render you a service. Luckily the younger waitress was very courteous and sweet.

If you depend upon wifi you're out of luck here, too. After finally logging into the wifi network I discovered it wasn't connected to the internet. No one knew how to fix this issue. No one cared.

And that's really the crux of the issue with Palazzo Catalani. No one cares.

No one cares if you have to hike up a winding steep cobble stone covered hill carrying your own bags. No one cares if you have fresh towels and clean sheets after five days. No one cares if the waitress scowls at you. No one cares if you don't have wifi. No one cares to inform you that the all day trip you're planning to Florence is going to be a monumental waste of time because everything there will be closed that day. No one cares to return your smile. No one cares if you ever return... and I won't!

This is a truly unique resort in a real medieval village complete with quaint cobblestone streets, ancient buildings and LOTS of steep paths and stairs. If you have mobility issues this is NOT the town or resort for you. There is plenty of parking in the public lot a 3 minute walk away. The underground parking is 1 euro a day and you can pay for the entire week at once using the machine with takes credit cards or coins. Seems most of the negative reviews complain about the steepness of the streets and the parking situation. The resort website warns of both issues as do many of the other reviews. If you don’t have sense enough to hed all the warnings (including this one) and have mobility issues book a room here anyway stop complaining about it. Its your own damn fault!!!

We were in Room 14 which has a private deck overlooking the entire town and Castle Orsini. To say the view was breathtaking is an understatement!!! I nearly burst into tears when I saw the view from from the deck.

We stayed at the resort for a week. What a wonderful medieval town. The building is 16th century with a lot of history. The town is small but has some good things to see and decent restaurants, the best being at the hotel.
This is a hill town. You need good stamina to go up and down the hills and the walk up to the hotel is steep and about 40 meters. You cannot dream be up to the hotel. Not big enough for cars and no where to park.
We had a car service from Rome and took trains to both Florence and Rome. There are no cabs in town do you get a cab from Orte that will come pick you up and bring you back to Orte train for about $45. Front desk is helpful with all arrangements.
You can walk all the way to the bottom of the town...downhill, then many stairs, then more downhill, to get a local train or bus. The walk back up at end of the day will make you huff and puff. Not for anyone without decent leg and lung strength!
Visit the castle and discuss tour options with front desk. We had great accommodations with a comfy king size bed. Beautiful views. Quiet and very clean!
Highly recommend if you want a real Italian village experience.

Palazzo Catalani was everything we could have asked and then some. All of the people working at the resort were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and decently priced (dinner was priced ok). The rooms were designed well and had everything we needed. The common rooms were amazingly painted and all the working shudders and casement windows had me swooning.

Would go back 100%.

At first you may question where the heck is Soriano nel Cimino, but you will quickly come to love this quaint, old town and the friendly people there. You can use the bus and train for public transport, or park your car in one of the local free or paid parking (1 euro/day) areas. We very much enjoyed visiting Civita di Bagnoregio (jewel on the hill) and Orvieto, and several of the local restaurants, gelataria, and cafe's (coffee/bar).

The resort is very clean, and has options to enjoy the older "Palazzo Catalani" or the upgraded "Palazzo at Soriano". There is a great hilltop area for relaxing and enjoying a view of the city and especially the castle, both of which are even more magical at night. We also took advantage of booking the spa and enjoyed both the hot tub with jets and the sauna. As we had a room with a garden, we invited our travel buddies (another couple) to join us a couple of times to enjoy a relaxing time with some wine (purchased locally).

Note the restaurant below is not associated with the resort and is a nice option for a meal, and that the castle is only open for tours on the weekend, so we missed that this trip.

17th C building with style and character. Fabulous views from the upper floors. Very helpful and informative frontline staff especially Sara and Matteo. Quiet location but easy to visit Viterbo, Tarquinia, coast, Rome and other medieval towns locally. Orte nearby where you can get train to Rome and Florence. Choice of local restaurants and excellent restaurant in house. Chef Roberto presents great food , themed nights and cookery lessons. Roberto also makes own bread and cheeses. Cafe Roma in the main piazza has great value cakes and coffee but you will burn off the calories walking back up the hill and the stairs if your room is on the upper floors.

It was a trip for me and my husband to be able to reconnect. We thought we would book this hotel with the hopes of it being welcoming and friendly. Boy was I wrong. They were not friendly to say the least. They act like we bothered them anytime we asked for any suggestions as far as activities, food, or the things we could do here at the hotel. We had booked for a week and the very 1st night we had troubles with the ac making a god awful noise and turn on and off so we had to sleep with the windows open because no one could help us until the morning. What really upsets me is this happened every night of our stay and instead of switching our rooms to one that worked we had to keep telling them and the next day they would have someone come and drain the ac. On top of all this we weren’t allowed to use the sauna or spa because it always seemed to be booked and even when the sign clearly states it closes at 10 they told us 7:30.

I think the studios are all different. The studio we stayed in had 2 chairs rather than a sofa. From memory when booking it states the club suite and studio has a max occupancy of 2 and the 1 bed for 4. The staff are very helpful, you could email them and check. It’s a beautiful place.

You would only need a Eurail pass if you plan to travel to other Europen countries as well as Italy. Therefore, since we were only traveling Italy we purchased day passes...we went to the train station in Orte and paid 12 Euro for the day. That pass gave us round trip travel to/from Rome as well as Rome's metro and bus systems. Hope this helps you!
