We visited Hotel Gacka for a traditional dinner as part of the Back-Roads Touring Co “Flavours of Northern Croatia & Slovenia” tour. It’s a beautifully presented ‘country inn’ style hotel in a lovely rural setting. It’s been built in a style that looks historic and traditional but is quite new and has very modern facilities. We had a good tour of the hotel and would love to have stayed there and if we’re ever back in the area it will be our first choice.

The themed dinner was excellent and the owners and staff very obliging and helpful. Although we did not spend the night, we would happily recommend it.

The setting is amazing. Rooms are big and comfortable. It is a fisherman paradise, although my family don't fish. Not to many rivers so clean are in the world. The staff is very personable and very good to my children. If you order food , I highly recommend Pastrva. National fish. Just overall great experience. The people are genuinely nice and made us feel at home. Thank you.

Hvala vlasniku i ljubaznom osoblju

We arrived late as part of a tour. The service was grudging verging on rude and the dinner poor and breakfast very limited. The bedroom in the separate apartment block looked like student accommodation. The bedside light didn’t work, the shower head holder was broken, the tray leaked and the shower door came off its rails. when I handed in my key the receptionist didn’t even look up from their phone - shame as could be fabulous.

Room was nice, big, comfortable bed, TV, clean bathroom. Hotel is very nice, new, surrounding is very beautiful, near hotel there is a river where you can take nice walks.
Location is great if you are visiting North Velebit.
One minus: really poor breakfast, for each only two slices of cheese and salami, some marmalade and butter.

This small quaint village boasts an understated but absolutely charming inn. The fresh water from the Gacka river runs through the village just next to the hotel and a small mill with a water-driven wheel is run by the flow. The water is crystal clear and houses trout making this an Anglers Paradise. The service is warm and friendly and the family that owns the Hotel Gacka is a delight, as are the other staff members. The meals are cooked to order, and needless to say, the two different trout dishes we ordered were FRESH and the best we ever had! the rooms are of modest size but scrupulously clean. The internet is best on the main floor, with mountains surrounding the river valley where the hotel is placed , reception on the second or third floors is more variable. - just a short drive from Zagreb - this is a country idyll- a new hotel - and one to make any holiday special.

We had teambuilding here and the place was perfect - good food in more than correct quantity, very friendly stuff that almost blended in with us. And the landscape is just amassing- clear river Gacka, water mills...nature at its best!

We needed a hotel to break the trip between Split and Zagreb and thought Hotel Gacka sounded perfect.

It looked charming, a large building and a smaller building near a lake and a ruined older building. I found someone who spoke English and he said they were having a party for bank employees and there would be loud music until the wee hours of the morning, so they were putting us in the smaller building instead of the main building.

We took our bags over the bridge to Room 1 and found a tiny room with two twin beds, each up against a wall. I returned to the main building and asked if they had a room with a large bed in the small building and was told no, so we got settled and sat out on the porch for a while.

I had been told that the party was to begin at 8PM, so we went into the restaurant at 7PM to avoid most of the noise. The band was setting up and practicing. Shared a trout carpaccio which would have been good if they hadn’t poured tons of cheap balsamic vinegar on it, then trout with mushrooms and trout with almonds. Each order was two trout, but we managed to finish them, plus the grilled vegetables, all of which were good.

When we arrived at the restaurant at 7PM, we requested that the heat be turned on in our room, which was very cold. When we returned to the room two hours later, it had not been turned on. We returned to the restaurant and asked again. By 10:30 it still had not been turned on. My bed was under the overhead light, but there was no overhead or reading light at my husband's bed, so he couldn’t read. We wrapped ourselves up in our blankets and went to sleep. We were awakened by voices outside at 1:30AM and again at 2:30AM. A terrible night.

We went to breakfast and found on our table a platter with six slices of cheese and six slices of ham. The waitress brought over glasses of orange juice which was water with a bit of orange coloring. The scrambled eggs and coffee were both good. We couldn't wait to leave!

I spend a night in Hotel Gacka with my family and I love the countryside there! The water in river Gacka is so clear! The room was average, sleep quality fine. The breakfast was very poor (just a plate of ham, cheese and so on).

A pleasant surprise to arrive at this beautifully renovated hotel on the banks of the River Gacka with gorgeous grounds and a large spring right on the property. The scenery is magnificent and sorry I wasn't prepared to spend a day angling for the big trout for which the river is famous. Suggest you wander a few kilometers upstream to the large spring that is the river source as truly an amazing crystal clear large river that flows for only 11 km from source to sinkhole. Beautiful dining room on lower floor with excellent food. Staff were very helpful and chatty and apparently are excellent anglers dreaming of trips to Montana and Patagonia.
