Ratua Island has so much going for it, but as others before me have said, it’s not for everyone. And that would be almost entirely due to the fact there is no air con – and neither would air con suit the rustic luxury of the divinely-inspired teak bungalows, except that the timber heats up in the super-sauna temperature during...

Ratua Private Island resort is as close to rustic paradise as you can get. No TV, air conditioning, radios, in-room internet and all of the mod-cons that we have come to rely on. So, you're left to totally relax and soak in your surrounds. And what surrounds they are! The entire place is made up on wooden villas. All of...

We can't recommend Ratua Private Island highly enough. Everything is a must see and do experience. The peace, quiet and serenity is awe inspiring and meditative. It is like living in a work of art inhabiting the Indonesian wooden huts. The ambience is that of pure nature and beauty. The weather was perfect, mostly sunny during the day, one spectacular...

We are a family of 5, 3 teenagers all over 15 who hadn't been to the pacific for 7 years and as old Fiji lovers took the gamble to visit Ratua. So glad we did, the island and waters are beautiful, the resort is splendid and rustic designed and dressed, meals were above our expectations - local beef is awesome...

What a wonderful experience! Ratua is really a magical place. It's rustic boutique charm make it our top place we've ever stayed at... and we've been to a lot of places. The reasons you'd stay... friendly Vanuatu people, big rooms with private beach access, simple tasty food, idyllic paradise island setting, great swimming, horse riding, great snorkelling, SUP to view...

The cabins are vey rustic and basic. Fly screens would be a distinctive advantage, as would tea and coffee facilities. The staff are ok, a few of them were outstanding, namely Miko and Claude. Meals and drinks are horrendously expensive, so I would suggest guests bring nibbles and such, especially if they are bringing children.

We travelled to Ratua for one week in October with our 9yr old daughter. The island is small and surrounded by calm waters and nice reefs. This was our first visit to Vanuatu having visited Fijian islands extensively (incl. Malolo, Mana, Castaway, Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, Paradise Cove and Octopus Island). Although its a tough decision I've got to say...

This place has a wonderful atmosphere, the villas are divine and the management are super friendly and helpful. It does need some money spent on it though: the wooden statues in Bear cottage were broken and made a bad first impression. The games room is full of broken or incomplete games and the pool table is a wreck, which is...

My husband and I stayed at Ratua for 3 nights in July. What a wonderful place! I adored the villas, rustic, yet luxurious, ( we were in ' Deer')and all the other buildings. The beach was just magical, the best beach swimming ever! And as for the food! - Fantastic. Wonderful views too, so peaceful. The staff were lovely and...

What an amazing place! It was like stepping back in time. This is a very special place. The rooms are little houses each named after an animal. They each have their own little private beach and yard and the privacy is awesome. It is like stepping back in time to an old village - no TV, air conditioner or fly screens....
