We had such an incredible experience at Mashpi Lodge, and I would definitely come back here one day. As many reviewers stated, it is a long and bumpy ride to the lodge. Once you take the dragonfly and see that the hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere, this makes sense. We stayed for an incredible 3 nights, and wish we would have stayed for longer if it was within the budget! Based on the amount of time it takes to get there, and the amount of activities and nature there is to see, I would definitely recommend staying at least 3 nights. Based on the reviews, I knew that there would be a morning and afternoon activity, but I didn’t really expect there to be as much downtime as there was. When you arrive, you go over all the activities and decide what you’d like to do- so you can do as little or as much as you want, but the activities are planned around having a large break in between morning and afternoon activities for lunch and resting (between 12 and 3-3:30pm.) Our guide, Lizardo, was incredible! He was extremely knowledgeable about everything in the jungle! Highly recommend! There are a great deal of activities to choose from. I recommend looking at their website before you arrive to get an idea of what exactly you want to do. We did 2 waterfall hikes (magnolia, copal), went to the life center, took a ride on the dragonfly and the sky bike (awesome!) and observation tower, went to the hummingbird garden twice (once in the afternoon, and once in the morning and had breakfast there- what is better than watching hummers all around you while you enjoy morning coffee and breakfast?!) a night hike where we saw some incredible critters! The food was excellent- breakfast and lunch are buffet style with a variety of options. You are able to order from a menu for dinner, and there were some truly amazing desserts! I especially liked the ceviche bar! We had such an amazing time, and look forward to coming back some day - thank you Mashpi!…
What a fabulous place. Mashpi the eco friendly lodge is not only a spot in paradise it is an example that something can be done to save our forests. 3 hours away from Quito in the beautiful rain forest you will loose track of time as soon as you drive through the gates. I felt as if I was entering Jurassic parc:) we had two great guides during our stay, Fernando and Nixon. You must try the sky bike and the dragon fly. Walking in the rain forest makes you appreciate how beautiful but also how fragile the ecosystem is and that we must do everything to protect it. The highlight of our stay was watching the hummingbirds as well as the night walk. La perfection!
We had a two night stay at Mashpi Lodge. I wish we could have stayed longer. My husband is a birder and we were looked after by our wonderful guide, Nestor. I shall remember our delicious picnic breakfast watching the humming birds for a very long time. The lodge was beautifully designed, staff all very attentive and Marc the lodge manager was superb. We enjoyed the evening talks each evening too.
If you are looking for a hotel with a true interest in protecting nature while staying in a formidable place, this is the place. Amazing combination of great hotel and nature conservation. Great service, rooms, food and great service. architecture impressive and amazing nature. lots of activities to do such as hiking, bird watching, waterfalls. Really good guides.
We spent two nights here recently and would highly recommend the experience. The transfers to and from Quito went very smoothly and the cars were comfortable. The lodge itself is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The food was excellent and they had no difficulty accommodating a vegetarian diet. The guides and hiking experiences were extraordinary, not only because of the uniquely beautiful natural location but also due to the very knowledgeable guides. We additionally had spa treatments (massages) which were great as well. It's worth the money.
