We stayed for 2 nights at le cameleon. The hotel lays at Playa Cocles some minutes away from puerto viejo with a lot of restaurants nearby. It‘s splited in two parts. The Reception, Pool, Spa and hotel rooms on one side of the street are situated in a nice tropical garden. The whole area was clean and spacious but a little bit old as well. The door lock for example wasn‘t working always properly or there were some damage of erosion from the salty air. The restaurant was situated on the other side at the beach with an additional sea view swimming pool. We decided to took advantage of a private 6-course dinner, which was situated at the sea view pool closed to the restaurant. The food was delicious and our waitress Lauren really gentle. Only the music was sometimes a liitle bit to loud and less romantic (live band in the restaurant, traditional latin music afterwards). All in all a nice experience (=…
We stayed at Le Cameleon at the beginning of our trip in December 2019. We were traveling with our two children, ages 8 and 10. Our kids LOVED arriving at night and walking down the pathways through all of the plants. You could hear birds, frogs, and insects in the background; it set the mood for our arrival in Costa Rica! Upon arriving, we enjoyed a delicious meal on the beach. Our kids loved being able to immediately dip their toes in the ocean. In the morning, we appreciated the delicious spread of food. The staff were all very friendly. Afterwards, we went on the walking tour with Jungle Man. We all loved it! Our son is blind, and Jungle Man made sure to make the tour accessible for him, often finding things for our son to touch, and sharing detailed descriptions of each animal we found. The walk was short (around one hour, all within 1/4 mile on the beach), but we saw so much wildlife -- including several sloths! At the end of the tour, Jungle Man even cut open a coconut for our son to enjoy. We were so impressed by how attentive and friendly he was. Back at the hotel, our children loved spending the morning swimming before heading to Puerto Viejo for a day of shopping and exploring. The location of this hotel is perfect; you are a very short drive away from the center of Puerto Viejo. You can also get to several beautiful beaches within a 10 minute drive.…
A nice place near the jungle and the beach, a quite place with an excellent restaurant and a games place. The perfect end of the day could be on the pool right in the front of the beautiful beach. It’ll meet your expectations
We were so excited for our stay at Le Cameleon, but were extremely disappointed. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our entire time in Costa Rica. At $500 per night, which is a hefty price tag in any part of the world, we thought we would get a truly luxurious experience. It was not. Our room was more like a motel room than a hotel room. The walls were paper thin. We could hear people talking outside, our neighbors flushing their toilets, alarm clocks in the neighboring rooms, the people upstairs moving furniture. The room was outdated and just not what you expect for the price tag. Having traveled throughout Costa Rica, we knew what we could get for this price point, and Le Cameleon simply did not deliver. For example, we stayed at the Umami Hotel in Puerto Viejo, in a huge and gorgeous super modern and stylish suite, for a third of the price of Le Cameleon! And we stayed at the super lux Makanda in Manuel Antonio paying less for a suite than we did at Le Cameleon for a “deluxe” room, which had nothing “deluxe” about it. To make matters worse, they denied us service at the restaurant, even though we were hotel guests (again, paying $500 per night) because they had two large tables and the kitchen was busy (although there were many empty tables). Any good hotel would have accommodated us and offered a drink while we waited- not flat out refused service. We asked for towels at the pool and they told us to walk across the street to reception--not the service you expect for this price point.. It rained while we were there and the pool chairs got really wet. No one came to dry them when the rain stopped (or even the day after), making it impossible for anyone to enjoy the pool—again, not the service you expect for this price point. To give credit where credit is due, the grounds and the pools are really nice. The breakfast is also good. But that is the extent of it. Save your money and stay elsewhere.…
The stay in Le Caméléon was incredible! The room amazed us every day when we re-entered, the food was absolutely fresh and made with love. The staff was always lovely and the programme which has been offered was entertaining: we did yoga with Laura and salsa classes with Klaus! Both of them are wonderful human beings! We will definitely return to this place of serenity! Thank you for everything! Iris & Manuel
