Favorite hostel ever. It's welcoming, clean, and well taken care of. The owners and staff are hard-working and everything feels very hospitable. Everything about the space is inviting and well-designed, there are great common spaces for leisure or work, and fun perks like Sunday Movie Night. Everything is sparkling clean and the staff are always available. Also, there is a great restaurant that's part of the hostel, with fantastic food (I recommend the Shnitzel with mozarella). The vibe is cozy and calm, and the location is a little bit removed from the bustling center of PV which I love. Overall amazing, great for young travelers.
I really enjoyed my stay at Madre Selva, It's midway between Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva, so you are close to the nicer, less secluded beaches. there's 2 supermarkets within walking distance (10-15min) There's cheap bikes for rent, there is a commuall kitchen, and a lovely chillout/cinema area on a boat shaped structure. The owners are extremely helpful, If you are interested in flora and fauna this is the place to go. A part from being in contact with the enviroment, Martin (the owner) has a lot of knowledge on the topic, and will be happy to share it. As I said there's a cinema area, and they play music and films regularly, there's also a restaurant during the afternoon/night, they serve truly AWESOME food! (vegeterian and vegan options included). the food really impressed me. there are HOT SHOWERS! There is space to park a few cars, they offer yoga classes, and have a laundry service witch I thought was worth mentioning (things never completely dry in the humid environment, so it might be necessary) there's free coffee every morning, witch I thought was great. The closest beach is Cocles, but not the surf spot (witch is very secluded.) it's a lot calmer on this side of the river than the main cocles surf spot. (At night, if the ocean's calm you can swim with bioluminescence, a truly fascinating experience) The vibe was great, the people I met there where awesome, I recommend this hostel to anybody visiting the area.…
I really enjoyed my time in Madre Selva. It is a beautiful, creative hostel in the middle of the jungle, a few kilometers away from busy Puerto Viejo. If you want to enjoy your stay in a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by nature and near cocles beach, this is the best spot. The owners of the hostel are very welcoming and helpful and want you to have a nice and comfortable stay. They also provide information for different tours and shuttles. It is possible to rent a bike at the hostel and explore nice beaches, the Nationalpark (Manzanillo) or just drive to Puerto Viejo. The supermarket is only 500m from the hostel. Since a few days they also provide yoga lessons on a roof terrace. Getting up in the morning and enjoying Yoga with a view in the Jungle was awesome. Furthermore I can really recommend the restaurant, they had the best vegeterian burger, I ever ate! During my stay at Madre Selva I felt very comfortable and I loved the relaxed vibe in the jungle.…
This charming and cosy hostel was a pleasure to stay in for three weeks. The atmosphere is perfectly relaxed and the people you meet there are from all walks of life, so you’re never bored. Bikes being available for rent makes its quiet and secluded location more accessible by bike from Puerto Viejo and other nearby towns. Loved it down on the Caribbean side. Pura vida 🤙🏼
I stayed at this lovely hostel for almost 5 full months. Located 2-3km from the center of Puerto Viejo, the hostel is close enough to experience nightlife, but removed enough to relax, and get a good night's sleep. Should you decide to go out, bicycles are available to rent for only $5/day, or you can take a taxi for the same price. The main road is only 600m from the entrance of the hostel, so it is also possible to walk to many of the beautiful beaches, the grocery store, restaurants, etc. The hostel only opened a year ago (November 2018), and the owners are constantly working to update, improve, and add amenities. Breakfast is offered in the morning, along with free coffee to get your day started. The community kitchen, bathrooms, and showers, are clean and well kept. The beds are comfortable, and there's nothing like listening to the sounds of the jungle as you fall asleep at night. New features include a cinema/bar/hang out space, and the addition of yoga classes. I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and made many friends while staying here. I was sad to say goodbye to the place and people that made my stay in Costa Rica feel like home.…
