Great location, awesome rooms and the best host in Marc. Wild native garden where you can see frogs, armadillos, aguti, sloths, howler monkeys and you can get your own exotic fruit in rambutan and "manzana de agua" just around your private room an patio, I am simply in love with my experience and you have to try it, trust me it is the best place around. There is a shared fridge, stove and utensils so you can enjoy your choice of local food in your own patio or in the common areas. The beach is just across the street and you are in the less crowded area so it is really peaceful and convenient if you want to go and explore some other spots, and there are many. Marc knows everything and will always give you the right advice,. All in all, simply the best experience.
My partner and I stayed for three nights at Caribe Town. We were initially impressed by the photos online and the reviews of previous guests. Arriving we were pleased that the place met our expectations. Beautiful architecture of the pool, dinner and lounge area. The bungalows were well designed and decorated, good lighting, with net screening all around to allow flow of air. The jungle on the grounds is manicured yet full and thriving. Marc took excellent care of us, gave us a recommendation for fresh water adventure, and cooked a delicious breakfast! We were very happy with our stay and would recommend others seeking a tranquil and comfortable stay in Playa Cocles.
Jessica and Marc are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We saw more of Marc while we were there and he was always friendly and helpful and keen to make sure everything was ok. It was a long journey in the shuttle from San Jose (5 hours) and turning off the main road onto a rough track you might wonder what sort of place you are coming to. However once through the gates it's like stepping into a tropical oasis. The pool area and gardens are lovely and we saw frogs, toucans and other birds, plus an agouti and a sloth. They have gorgeous friendly cats as well. We stayed in a cabin which was very private and was cleverly designed to create an airflow so air conditioning was not necessary. The fan was enough during the day and at night it was actually quite cool. Although it's open to the air the screens kept all the bugs out. You also hear all the wonderful jungle sounds at night. We loved that, and we woke up early to the birds and howler monkeys in the distance! By the pool is an open air kitchen area with tea, coffee, milk and water available so you can make drinks whenever you want during the day, and guests can also use the fridge. The breakfasts were delicious with fresh fruit, daily specials and eggs cooked to order. There was just one day when things were not as good as neither Jessica nor Marc were there (Marc explained later that he'd had to go to San Jose on urgent business). They'd left some friends (?) in charge which confused us as they didn't introduce themselves or explain why they were there instead. We didn't want to pry but it would have been helpful if they could have just told us that Marc was away for the day as we were left wondering what had happened and were concerned. They did their best with breakfast but I think asking for poached eggs tested their abilities! The beach is a few minutes' walk up the track and across the main road, and it's within walking distance of the Jaguar Rescue Center which is a must-do! For evening meals there are several restaurants within 5-10 minutes' walk.…
Caribe Town is individual casitas located around a pool and breakfast/reception area. The bed was very comfortable, the room was spotless and the bathroom modern. Each living space had a porch with chairs. Privacy was provided by tropical plants that screen the units from one another. Parking convenient and Marc made our stay pleasant and problem free. Marc also made breakfast each morning. No wait involved. The owners live on the premises and just ringing a bell brings their assistance. Marc was a wealth of information about how to get places, where to eat, and tours. All in all an at home feel but with privacy included.
Stayed at Caribe Town for 8 nights to celebrate our anniversary and it was a beautiful and special place. Marc & Jessica welcomed us by communicating well before our trip by helping us set up a hotel in San Jose and transportation to the Caribbean location. Marc was so personable, available for our every question and need, and made our stay so very meaningful. We were served amazing breakfasts each morning that exceeded our expectations, highlighted by fresh fruit and his famous banana cake, waffles, pancakes.... The area is gorgeous, the room was the perfect picture of a Caribbean bungalow. The location is centrally located to National Parks, animal refugees, minutes from the beach, restaurants, and a short taxi ride to Puerto Viejo with a great night life. What highlighted this location as being beyond special, are the owners! Marc (Jessica was out of the country during our visit) has a genuine and wonderful spirit who when the end of our trip, felt as if we were leaving family. Marc's relationship with locals ensured our outings to be spectacular and well cared for by local guides. I cannot recommend this location enough, you will not be disappointed.…
