At Urraca we specialize in providing unique, unforgettable experiences. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, or to relax and enjoy the island lifestyle with family and friends. The island is protected by coral reef, and surrounded by turquoise, bio-luminescent waters. The area is full of diverse marine life & vegetation, and offers breathtaking views of Cayo Zapatillas (15 mins by boat from Urraca). You can swim and snorkel in all areas around the island and see many different types of fish, coral and starfish. Snorkeling gear is provided for you. Countless tours can be arranged during your visit if you'd like to explore other areas of Bocas del Toro. The fresh meals from our gourmet restaurant will captivate your senses (vegan menu available). Our fish and seafood are the catch of the day and cooked with love. We are here to make sure your stay is as relaxing as possible and will do anything we can to meet your expectations. Welcome to this authentic experience!

Urraca is a beautiful place, it´s enchanting! But we were very disappointed with the lack of hygiene in the kitchen. The silverware and flatware were grimy. The dirty dishes were barely lather with soap then rinsed in a container with water, not under running water or hot

Response from Francine R, Owner at Urraca Private Island Eco-Lodge

I am sad and disappointed that I was not informed during your stay of all these points that have definitely affected your stay at Urraca. I would have been happy to discuss it with you and find a solution together to satisfy you, such as helping you to find another hotel that was more suitable to meet your expectations. You could have approached me to address your concerns as I was always around. Urraca Private Island is an eco-lodge that’s 100% sustainable and dependent on natural resources to function: all of our energy comes from solar panels, and all our water comes from a rain-water collection system. Our resources have to be used mindfully, and unfortunately that is not suitable for all people. The kitchen door and windows are always kept open, because we want our guests to see the freshness of the ingredients being used, as well as the hard work and passion our staff puts into preparing each plate. Urraca is proud to be an eco-friendly ecosystem, and during your stay you can find a welcome book (located inside each bungalow) where everything is explained in detail. To care for the environment, normally (as it’s explained in the welcome book), we don’t change towels each day; although we can make exceptions and gladly provide new towels upon request. During your stay, as you enjoyed your private terrace and all our outdoor facilities, you probably didn't notice that our employee Valentine, who is a dedicated housekeeper, regularly & repeatedly cleans all the spaces reserved for meals. I personally approve each dish that is served before it leaves the kitchen. One of my passions is to serve harmonious dishes, and to present a work of art for the senses. This is pleasure I enjoy sharing with people…to make people happy and meals memorable. Thank you for your comments, because they allowed me to make a point. We will maintain our philosophy towards the environment, continue to offer excellent service, and make corrections when necessary.
