The beachfront location is a highlight for many, offering stunning views and a unique opportunity to watch turtles. Were there Jan 16 to 23rd and found the beach to be spectacular, and the water warm with no seaweed. You can walk to the forts at either end of the beach with little difficulty.

Our room, was in the 3 storey building at the end and was spacious with a spectacular view of the beach and water. Everything worked and no water issues. Hair dryer electrical plug can be used to charge your devices, with no adapter required.

There is nightly entertainment but it is a joke.

Don’t waste your time going to the D’Bay Grill as you wait forever to get your food with the food being nothing special.

Contrary to the brochure the Kiskadee Restaurant does not operate.

I assume the chef is given a low food budget so the food at the main buffet is adequate. They try their best.

The main bar is great but apparently Cranberry Juice is too expensive for the resort!

Local couple rented adjoining room for 3 nights to party and smoke dope but we had little disruption. Management said they would be more careful in the future when renting rooms. I don’t believe them.

Manager is non existent until his Monday night party, and then he disappears again.

Airport a disaster when departing with only 1 X-ray machine which results in a long, long lineup.

However, for the cost, you cannot beat the resort and highly recommend.

We have been lots of times to this small beachfront hotel at various times of the year. Last January was spoilt by lots of Canadian guests and we were apprehensive of going again. We had a relaxing ,quiet holiday again with adequate food. We had blue bands this time and allowed to eat at the beach grill. Excellent food here with a good ambience, made better with Gabriel on the bar and Cheryl telling us what there was to eat. The chef there cooked the chicken just how I wanted it.
The sea was rough, but we did enjoy swimming in the warm sea for a few days.Watching the fishermen is interesting. There are lots of birds mostly in the courtyard, where they are fed with sugar. The grounds are well kept, even though some bullocks enjoy the flowering shrubs occasionally.
The bedroom and bathroom are always clean with towels changed regularly . The fridge had beers and soft drinks in it.
The repeaters cocktail party was good with premium drinks and some cooked nibbles.
We were surprised to have champagne and a plate of fruit delivered near the end of our holiday. all the staff are very friendly and mostly efficient.

We visited the resort from Feb 27 to March 5, 2020. This was our 4th Starfish resort, so knew, more or less, what to expect. Guest’s age group: mostly retired. The resort’s age shows everywhere. The food is consistent with the other Starfish resorts, good quality with limited choice. The servers are mostly friendly. The only restaurant never opens on time. There is a second, beach grill, opened from 11 am to 6 pm, where you have to pay to eat something half-decent. The bartenders were friendly and fast to serve you. The bar had also a price list for the most popular cocktails. Rooms: we stayed in a Turtle category, which was comfortable and properly cleaned. Surprisingly great Air conditioning. Nightly entertainment, with one Reggae night exception, was very limited. The beach is amazing, with grey sand and tints of black (volcanic), very wide and about a mile long. It is naturally clean, there was no seaweeds and the water is crystal-clear. For shade, there are palms, mangoes and almond trees. The umbrellas are mostly broken. The Sunwing rep, Eva, has gone far beyond her duties to help us. The resort was short-staffed. The Food Manager, Mr. McEwan filling in everywhere. There is no reef or snorkeling on the hotel beach. We only took one trip to Pigeon Point Park, Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool, which includes snorkeling, and I do recommend it. Conclusion: we recommend the resort to beach lovers on budget who are not fussy about food choices or entertainment quality.

Travelled at the end of February 2020 for 10 days and had a wonderful relaxing holiday at the Starfish Resort. It is a lovely seafront resort, yes a little dated but all the more charming for it. All rooms are sea facing and our room was on the second floor. It was quite spacious and the beds were super comfortable with the air con being nice and quiet, the room was cleaned daily to a high standard with towels replaced if required. All the staff were really friendly and worked hard to make sure you had an enjoyable stay, to many to mention, Cheryl in D'Bay, Ruth in the restaurant.and Trevor & Selwyn in the bar (Trevor don't forget to put Stella's Sundowner on the Cocktail list!). It was lovely having breakfast looking at that amazing beachfront view watching the pelicans diving, sunset from the terrace was also spectacular. All meals were buffet style but could have had more choice at lunch and evening, occasionally had to wait a little while for food being replenished. It was nice to have nightly evening entertainment that was very enjoyable. We were also extremely lucky to witness a giant leatherback turtle laying her eggs one night. Yes it is a 3* resort but you could pay double and would not have a better location or staff, you would not be disappointed staying at the Starfish and recommend visiting before it is replaced

Once you realize this property has been sold and is marked for demolition, the crumbling buildings and equipment as well as the woefully understaffed restaurants start to make sense. According to online news articles, Sunwing will be building a new five star resort on this location. So, if travellers still wish to book here, given the cheap prices, be forewarned about this situation. The present owners Rex Resorts, are understandably putting in minimal effort to keep this hotel functioning. Be prepared for extremely slow and disorganized meal and bar service, broken down beach chairs and palapas and low quality beverages. On the other hand, the staff are lovely, and one wonders what will happen to them once the resort closes.
The beach is brown sand and dark blue, red flagged water reminiscent of beaches in Puerto Vallarta. If you are looking for a white sand, clear calm turquoise sea type beach, pick another spot.
Tobago is a lovely island, full of beautiful nature and scenery and friendly people. I would definitely return to the island....but obviously not to this particular location.

You will receive only 2 small bottles of water on arrival and after they are empty you have to make a trip to the bar to refill them. Every suite has a bar fridge with only the 2 bottles of water in it. No snacks no beer!!!
Rooms are basic with good AC.
Food was a big issue!!! Too spicy and a limited selection. Had chicken soup one day and it was so spicy hot we could not eat it. You will get rice, chicken, and fish every day. Meals are served in an outdoor dining area and often visited by local dogs barking for your food. Not a pleasant dining experience.
Pool is very shallow but refreshing after the hot sun.
The pool patio was never washed down until someone barfed and it had to be cleaned up.
We would not return as our experience very disappointing.

Stayed here Feb 27 - March 12/20. There were a few hick-ups along the way but nothing that would warrant a negative review! Room was spacious, clean & plenty of hot water. Staff are friendly & helpful - engage with them in a friendly respectful manner & you'll receive the same in return. Grounds are lovely & cared for. Meals were at the main buffet, with additional choice of D Bay Grill for lunch for burgers, fries, salad, pizza. Cheryl worked super hard to serve everyone in a timely manner. A few nights were open for a la carte (included) by reservation. Items at extra cost were clearly indicated. The food was average to good & wine was good! There was absolutely always something to enjoy at the buffet restaurant: fantastic soup, fresh rolls, salad, several veg, fish plus 2 meats. Ask for the homemade ice cream! Shurla & Nakeesha in diningroom were super! Damien & Gabriel: best Pina Coladas, hands down. Damien was always working hard to ensure food/beverage department ran smoothly. Pool is lovely but needs a little TLC. Do seek out Ellis (offers tours on the beach): Excellent all day private tour including Lover's Beach and Pirates Bay. Beware of Blade! We appreciated the fact that evening entertainment and the bar at the resort shut down by 11:00 p.m. If you're looking to be entertained by loud music and activities all day long, then this resort is not for you! If you want a lovely peaceful holiday, then this is the place! We would definitely return.

Starfish does not promote itself as anything other than a 3-star hotel and as such is very good for the grading and offers great value for money.
Yes, it may be a bit tired but in my experience, many 3-star hotels in the Caribbean are like this.
Our room was spacious, and comfortable and opened out straight onto the beachfront. The room was kept very clean by the housekeeping team who visited daily unlike some hotels that are still using Covid as an excuse to visit rooms less frequently. We reported a couple of issues with our room on the first day and the excellent maintenance team resolved the problems within a few hours.
I liked the authentic caribbean food that was served and there were also tasty options available from the grill.
Some staff looked a little surley at first however we were soon able to engage with them and when we did, found most of them to be very helpful, and delightful to have fun with.
The gardens are very well maintained and offer an amazing variety of beautiful plants to admire.
The pool is large and attractive though I found the constant 3' 6" depth to be fine for relaxing but not so good for swimming.
The location on the beach is first class with the added bonus of watching the local fishermen haul in their catch most days. The terrace by the pool bar offers an excellent view of the sunsets.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing to stay at the Starfish Resort Tobago. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience regarding your stay with us. You are right! The resort is a basic 3 Star late 70's Caribbean hotel with no frills, just basic clean accommodation, good food, friendly staff in the most fantastic beach location as you mentioned. It is quite pleasing to read that your stay with us was of good value, service and sleep quality. We hope to welcome you again in the near future. Regards, Janelle

Lets get this out of the way....Beware, this hotel was most definately, substandard from other Rex/Starfish Resorts elsewhere with respect to food quality, variety, options, freshness, taste and food stations replenishing and maintenance. We speak from experience as we have been to more than one Rex/Starfish resorts in Antigua and St. Lucia Islands. It's important to preface that this location has bery recently gone through ownership changes as part of Sunwing’s fairly recent strategic alliance with Rex Resorts.
Please DO NOT base your food experience at Starfish Tobago to what Tobago has to offer with respect to the culinary quality, variety and delicious tastes this stunning Island has to offer. We can attest to this personally as we ventured out to tour and explore the island and were fortunate to experience tasty, fresh, and variety food this Island has offer.
Otherwise, the style of rooms, cleanliness layout was much like what you would have at other Rex/Starfish Resorts.
The beach was quiet and there was no fighting for chairs. The beach is quaint and the water warm, clear and lovely!!!
The beverages were good. Both the and white wines were very good. The bar service is great and they do not skimp on their pours. If you want a double they do not frown. No questions asked. Having said that, ir would be nice to have consistent supply of 'simple' garnishings for drinks. Eg. It is not extraordinary or elaborate to expect a slice of lime with a gin & tonic or a vodka & soda.
The staff here were all lovely. We did not experience any rude staff. Of course, like anywhere, some were better than others, and we acknowledged $$ their efforts. In general the people are so lovely and attentive in Tobago!
Other than our disappointment with the food, not at all being reflective of what Tobago cuisine has to offer, our weeklong stay was super chill and relaxing! We checked another lovely Caribbean Island off our bucket list.
We had 2 amazing Island tour! It truly reflected unspoilt, untouched, Tobago beyond ordinary and met all our expectations. Thankfully we toured outside the resort as it showed us what this beautiful Island has to offer. It was truly a raw, upclose, and personal experience with David of Island Girl Tours, Tobago. We had two lovely tours of what the Island has to offer. We enjoyed seeing this stunning Island through the eyes of a guide with so much pride, love, and passion for nature and the purity Tobago. Forever memories of a fantastic tour! 🤗😘 Extra special that he is Trini / Canadian! 👍🤗

My family and I stayed here last weekend. It was a two night vacation and we paid for an “all inclusive package”. The location is perfect with its proximity to the airport and the fact that the hotel is on the beach. Beautiful ambiance outdoor. The rooms were tolerable but very dated and had a musky scent. I think there were some huge disappointments, I don’t think the staff is very well trained. The bar tender had an attitude and thought it a problem to make certain drinks. When at the restaurant we had to keep calling the waitress every second because the table wasn’t set or no one checked us when we were seated for drinks or coffee or anything. The restaurant was understaffed, no one was monitoring when the food ran out of the buffet and we had to constantly go looking for staff to ask for certain items. The array for lunch is very limited. There is also a grill shack, I waited about an hour for a vege burger. The bartender didn’t mix the drink I ordered from the waitress and I had to go over myself and ask for it and he fussed. The menu was so limited there. There was no chicken option, only beef and vege. The rest you had to pay for, even with the all inclusive package. Apart from the poor service, what was the most upsetting was the poor business plan. To get a customer to want to come back you need to create a fantastic first time experience. So apparently the hotel has different colored bands. It was my first time so I got that color but we came with friends who were not first timers, there bands were gold and paid a lower rate for their package. This gold band apparently allowed them more premium drinks at the bar. The drinks we got were these cheap, never heard of brands of alcohol which gave me a headache. I went and bought my own wine just to be able to have a drink and unwind.
My dad went to order coconut water (my dad is a cancer patient btw) and the bartender says “this is for people to drink as chaser” and he didn’t want to give him. He eventually did after persuading.
This was my birthday weekend and I think it was DEFINITELY not worth the money. I will NOT be returning after that awful first experience.

It is like it normally is, ie peaceful, friendly and safe. These emergency measures are across both islands but they are to give the police special powers to stop and search etc.

The oil slick effected an area around Magdalena hotel on the Atlantic side of the island and so Starfish will not be effected. The main bar area (circular in appearance) is by the pool area and is open until late. The lounge bar does not normally open at this time of the year. The main restaurant has only been open when the hotel occupancy is very high otherwise breakfast and your evening meal is served in the restaurant which is located overlooking the beach. Lunch is usually served at the D’Bay Grill however I read a recent review to say that was being refurbished.
