We spent four wonderful days at this lovely lodge at the foot of the Tandayapa Valley. It is run by the extended Sanchez and Luna families and was our first stay during a month long birding tour of the Northwest slope. Jairo Sanchez was our extremely knowledgeable and patient, fluent English-speaking bird guide. He picked us up from our hotel... More

We stopped for a prearranged lunch at the lodge and were entertained by dozens of hummingbirds and tanagers throughout the meal which was served on the porch. Then a walk to the stream yielded more dazzling birds. This was perhaps the best meal we ever enjoyed in our stay in Ecuador, but we were so bewitched by the birds that... More

$5 dollars entry fee PP admitted you into Hummingbird heaven! Never seen so many at one location! They included White whiskered Hermit, Collared Jacobin, Sparkling Violet ear, Purple Throated Woodstar, Brown Inca. There was also a 'banana' feeding station which attracted Emerald Toucanet, Red headed Barbet, Buff throated Saltator, Whitewinged Bushfinch & many Tanagers. On a walk to the river... More

For tourists who care about supporting local people (versus international companies or owners), Alambi is especially lovely. The birds are dazzling and it is set up so that you can sit comfortably and photograph dozens of species (we saw 4 new life species there). The owners are a local family with several generations in the area. Previously were farmers. You... More

Before heading to the Galapagos Islands I booked a tour for my friend and I to visit the Cloud Forest. Our tour guide suggested ALAMBI!! I could have stayed there all day watching the hummers and other birds. It was AMAZING! It is truly a tropical paradise. If you are into birding especially Hummers this is the place to be!!

I spent a very nice day at Alambi recently. I came to view the Hummingbirds and was not disappointed . In fact I was very pleased with the overall experience. The owner was there and was very helpful in letting me know what Humminbirds to expect in the numerous and well maintained feeders. The grounds are well kept and the... More

We have stayed one night in Alambi cloudforest and did a birdwatching trip, what an experience that was! First of all Jairo is your personal guide, he is very enthousiastic, funny and friendly! It is so impressive how much he knows about all those kind of birds, and recognize their voices. He speaks perfectly English, so that's handy! We saw... More

I'd describe Alambi as a heaven for hummingbirds and many other larger birds. I love birding and I fell in love with the place at the very first moment. There is so much bird activity to drive one crazy. I love nature photography and this place was beyond my expectations. It is a five star place for hummingbird photography and... More

The size of this lodge and resort is one of it's main features - it can accomodate only a maximum of 6 guests. During my visit this year from Nov. 8-12, I was the only guest and thus, it was really like a home stay. Jairo Sanchez transported me to and from my hotel in Quito and was my personal... More

I can't recommend Alambi and its host Jairo and his family, highly enough. This is a lovely small villa with two bedrooms (two singles in one room, one double). The food is delicious, simple and home-cooked. The atmosphere is friendly with English-speaking Jairo making suggestions for trips in the area. We had our own car but Jairo is also a... More
