Basecamp Pyrenees is our restored Catalan mountain farm, into a small charming boutique hotel. Located just opposite the holy peak Canigou - it will simply take your breath away. Access is by private road, its exclusive and charming. Mas Can Rigall is a ecological Basecamp destination, with hybrid eco-technology, with energy supplied by solar panels and biodiesel. We have an outdoor swimming pool, and the majority of the food and wine we serve is organic.

We stayed at Can Rigall in the beginning of August, 2018 with a big group. The house is totally secluded on the top of the mountain, with amazing views of the Pyrenees. The house is great for big groups, with large seating areas for meals inside and out, as well as a very large living area. The staff and catering were great, loads of delicious local bread, pastries, cheese and others. The house has lots of facilities for all kinds of activities, a dedicated gravel bocce court, archery, and of course the pool which is situated on the edge of the mountain, giving the feeling of an infinity pool overlooking the Pyrenees and valley below. There are also many walking and hiking trails to the mountain peaks above, and also trails around that aren't so difficult. It's the perfect holiday destination if you are seeking somewhere remote to relax and experience the mountains, while still being able to drive into towns within a reasonable time when you want.

We cannot recommend the Can Rigall eco-hotel highly enough: a beautifully converted and hugely atmospheric old farmstead perched high up a 6km track to the south of Arles-sur-Tech, with gorgeous views straight across to the Canigou massif. It has fine walks from its door, including the Pilo de Belmaig ridge and is a good base for wider exploration. Superb food and charming service and support.

A particular joy is the Pilo de Belmaig ridge, which we walked from Can Rigall . Its grand circuit (our term not theirs) climbs through beautiful and varied forests, passing long-overgrown ruined houses and collapsing terraces, relics of the tough lives of the inhabitants of former times, to meet the GR10 on a col in the ridge. Thence it is a 45min climb up the ever lovelier high ridge to the Pilo de Belmaig, a rocky summit with uninterrupted all-round views. Eat a picnic here. Then it is on along the narrow and really rather thrilling high ridge to another peak, which is wooded so affords less in the way of views. You then drop back down on excellent forest tracks to Can Rigall. Around 4 ½ hrs.

This walk will be have its own page on walkopedia.net in due course.

We thought that the whole experience was a bit expensive (€300 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast in a suite) for the service we received. The restored old farm buildings are fantastic and the location at 800m, with far reaching views of the Pyrenees and few other buildings in sight was really special. We stayed 3 nights in July and surprisingly it was almost empty for 2 of those with only 2 other guests staying. Unfortunately this meant the very charming chef and host took a holiday. We were left in capable hands but did feel we were getting a bit sub-par service. Dinner was not of a high enough quality to charge €40 per head. Despite the price we were not expecting a '5 star' experience, we prefer 'barefoot luxury' but this did not quite live up to that. Overall good, but just not quite excellent.

9 good friends from Norway spend 6 fantastic preeaster days at Can Rigall in March 2013. Despite relatively clouded weather we had the most wonderful stay. If you want spectacular surroundings, fantastic views, great trekking combined with the most beautiful, peaceful and cosy buildings and rooms, the nicest and most welcomming hosts you ever met, a perfect chef and great food, this is your choise. The most perfect place to enjoy nature, friendship, beauty and peace. We all loved it and promise to be back.

At the end of May 2011 we, four (elderly) couples, good friends and regular travellers together, stayed for a week at Can Rigall. In the reviews already written, all the comments we could possibly make, have already been made and we could only wish there were words left for us to use in describing the wonderful experience of staying there. The hospitality of Helle is on all accounts unsurpassed, be it the warm welcome, the perfect food, the rooms prepared, the knowledgeable information, the enthousiasm and sense of humor and always the extra effort which made our stay so memorable.
The history and ecological principle of Can Rigall made the stay very interesting.
Even with eight people's different interests, it was no problem to program the days: from a daytrip up the mountain behind Can Rigall, a walk past nearby farms, the atmosphere of the villages, the architecture and art at the abbeys and monasteries in the Pyrenees and near the coast, the "Festival of the cherry" at nearby Cérèt, just a day staying "at home" or any of the other possibilities too many to mention.
We are all of us certain that we will return to Can Rigall, at any time of the year.

Helga, Ingebrigt and friends

This is not you average hotel. The rooms are rustic and luxurious, the organic food (much of it from the garden or places close by) tasty (we had wild boar for dinner, shot locally), the location tranquil (with many options for activities), and the service intimate and personal. Book the entire place for you group (there are only 11 rooms), or bring your special one for a romantic weekend. You will be taken well care off.

Views that will take your breath away! The house is spectacular; it has been renovated but maintains a rustic French feel. Tons of activities, but also a fantastic place to sit and overlook the mountains or read a book. Hoping to be back!

Situated high in the Pyranees mountains, Can Rigall is an extremely beautiful vacation destination. The location is remote, calm and relaxing but very near to beautiful local towns with beaches, small shops and wineries. We visited with a large group and the space itself was perfectly suited for us with many individual bedroom suites, a large eating area (both indoor and outdoor) and a living space with a huge fireplace. The pool was stunning with picturesque views of the mountains and small towns below. There were many activities for us to do including, hiking, archery, bike riding, bocce, swimming and painting! We learned a lot from our hosts about local food and lifestyle so it was both educational as well as extremely relaxing. I would recommend this destination to everyone and hope to return someday myself!
