This year will be our third year in a row, for my my wife and I. Joel and his family at Air Ivanhoe run a first class operation. In 2019 we enjoyed a great breakfast at the main lodge before our flight into Beattie lake for a week of great fishing. In 2020 we again returned to Beattie, for another awesome week of seclusion, and top notch fishing. In 2021 we decided to try a different lake, and we can’t wait! Book yourself a trip with the great folks at Air Ivanhoe, you won’t be disappointed.

I know it shows 2019 but trip was actually in 2018, just getting around to review now. My wife and I and kids rented a cottage for the weekend and loved the size of the cottage and rooms and the rooms were clean with big stove, big fridge and lots of shelf’s and dishes and microwave. My family does have a cottage on Ivanhoe Lake but when lots of family are there for thanksgiving weekend there is not a lot of room to stay overnight so some had to rent cottages. We loved it and the fact it was so close to our family’s cottage as well ( just a 5 min walk ) was great. Our kids also liked the view and the airplanes doing their last flights of the year thanksgiving weekend. Went back out to the lake again this year (2019) for thanksgiving but came home for the evening rather then staying overnight

We did not fly in but because of age decided to stay at the Inn on the lake for convenience. We caught lots of small fish but nothing of any size in Air Ivanhoe Lake. Very disappointed! The accommodation was very good and the staff is very friendly and helpful, however, at times the staff totally ignore you while they talk around you to other staff who had interrupted to ask a question. Happened all four times I was in the shop including trying to pay my bill. The restaurant is only open 4 days a week and our party of 6 did not use the restaurant after the first night. After waiting 15 minutes to be acknowledged then taking another 65 minutes before we received our dinner and 1 3/4 when we left, we decided that was not for us. One waitress and one chef? I would suggest that you only do the Outpost Fly-in with Air Ivanhoe, assuming you will catch more and larger at the fish at outpost locations.

Thank you for deciding to vacation with us last year and we look forward to the opportunity to make things right for you next time (where it's within our control). I'm sorry that you guys didn't catch any "trophy" sized fish during your trip to the drive in lodge - if it was always that easy they wouldn't be called "trophies". Trips to Walmart are guaranteed - wild animals are not .... I agree that you will typically find better fishing (size and quantity) at the fly-in outpost cottages (because they have less fishing pressure) - that being said - most groups at our drive in lodge catch more than enough walleye, pike, bass, and perch for supper and occasionally a true "monster". I recommend groups stay at the drive in lodge for greatest number of amenities (wifi, tv, beaches, restaurants, etc) , stay at the boat in cottages for the cheapest trips ($25 / adult / day), and do the fly in outposts for the best fishing. I'm sorry that the staff team members asking the owners / managers in the office for work instructions / questions upset you - I can only assume that office manager was attempting to multi-task - keeping staff efficiently working and putting together your bill for the trip. It can be challenging in smaller family run operations. In regards to the restaurant at our main lodge - we work in an extremely remote area of Northern Ontario with less than 200 people within 50 miles .... We operate our restaurant from Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon because that's the only time frame when we typically have enough restaurant patrons to cover our operating costs. We on average serve 30 meals a day - so its a very very tight margin just to break even. We typically are overstaffed with 1 chef and 1 waitress, but yes certainly, 1% of the time there is a "rush" at the restaurant and the staff there are just over whelmed. I apologize that I didn't have the crystal ball ready to predict when your group (and the other groups) without reservations would arrive - and that the drink / food service was slower as a result. There is a restaurant in Foleyet (5 mins away) open 7 days a week called Northern Lights - they typically operate with 1 cook who is also the waitress. Again, it can get busy but usually meals are delivered within 20 mins. Please reach out to me directly if you would like to get something organized in the future and I will make sure to personally oversee your trip. We've done this as a family business since my grandparents started Theriault Air Services in the early 1950's - most guests are repeat guests. I'm sure that I can do something special for you guys next time around. All the best, Joel Theriault / 3rd generation family tourism outfitter

My time at the Ivanhoe River Lodge started on a Friday when we drove up for a Saturday morning fly in Outpost cabin fishing trip. The night prior to flying out, we stayed in one of the log cabins which was clean and well-appointed. The seaplane base is surprisingly well stocked and the restaurant serves up some very tasty food, especially when you consider how far north you are. Flying out, there were employees there that will help you to set up and load up all of your equipment on the plane and take care of most of the hard work. The planes are very well maintained and the pilots are all top-notch. The Outpost cabin we stayed at, Oswald Lake, was large and had a stand up shower with hot and cold running water as well as electricity and a refrigerator. Cellular service was sometimes available. The cabin was in very good condition, the boats and motors worked well and didn't have any problems, and the lake was beautiful and large. The flight out was similar to the flight in, with some help getting everything loaded onto the plane and a pleasant ride back to the seaplane base. I was struck by the professionalism of the employees and the way the business was run. This is obviously not a small-time mom and pop shoestring operation. I could go on and on but suffice it to say I had a wonderful time and all of the accommodations were top-notch. You are out in the middle of the wilderness and you still have many of the Creature Comforts of home. George and his family have done a great job and I have waited many years to come back and feel it is well worth the wait that I had. Everything is just a little nicer than your average outfitter, all while keeping prices reasonable and equipment in good shape.

George, Jeannie, Joel and Daniella go out of their way to provide an unparalleled wilderness experience. We spent a week at a huge, clean, clear lake & had fresh walleye for dinner every night enjoying the peace & tranquility. Wildlife abounds in this unspoiled, natural wilderness experience. Joel flew us to our lake & ensured that everything was in working order. He asked a few days later if there were any issues that needed to be addressed - only one small problem that he immediately resolved. Attention to detail & customer service are evident. Daniella is great with customers in the office; very thorough and pleasant. We have been enjoying this unique experience for 20 years, sometimes visiting 2 or even 3 times/year but are still exploring new lakes since they rest some lakes occasionally but open new lakes/cabins. They really care that customers have a fantastic experience and do all they can to make that happen. Where else are you able to have a huge lake all to yourself in total privacy surrounded by such natural beauty? It is unique and if you try it, you will be "hooked."
