Guests have called out Hotel Riu Latino for its hospitable staff and the cleanliness that pervades its rooms and grounds, yet some have experienced slow service, particularly at the bars. The tranquil beachfront location is appreciated by many, although it's considered remote by those wishing to explore. Opinions on value vary, with critiques aimed at perceived cost-cutting measures. The modern rooms are well-received, but noise can be an issue. While the hotel offers varied activities and entertainment, a few guests suggest that the atmosphere may lean too heavily towards the party scene.

Fantastic time!
We stayed at the Riu Latino from Dec 25 - Jan 2. This hotel is definently one I will recommend to any adult.
Hotel
The hotel itself is beautiful. We were greeted with champagne! such a lovely touch. The staff do a great job to keep this hotel clean. The times that it rained, the staff were out there clearing the water from the walk ways. They would clean the walk ways from the beach to the pools, so the sand didn't drag around. No complaints with the cleanliness of the this hotel. The customer service was amazing!

Room
The rooms were clean and spacious. Housekeeping cleaned our rooms daily and replenished our towels daily, which we really appreciated. The housekeeping staff were always smiling and saying hi as you passed them in the hallway.

Food
The restaurants were a bit underwhelming. The buffet was actually very good, we enjoyed the Asian restaurant, but the others weren't that great.
The service out in the eating areas was superb! so attentive and I have to shout out Jenny, she really made us feel special, every time we came to dine.

Activities
The entertainment crew did a great job keeping us entertained. I think there could have been a bit more for entertainment, no beach party, the shows were lovely, we had the best fun at the silent disco. The club in the hotel was nice, I noticed when they played more American music or old school music the crowd livened up. Sometimes it was a bit to much "unce unce" music. If you like that music you will have a blast at the club.

Riu Parties
I wish they would advertise this a bit better, for instance we didn't know you need to reserve a spot to the jungle party. Or when the buses would arrive to pick up. They should have a Riu party at the resort.

Excursions
We went on the ATV excursion, it was a fun filled day. I would recommend. If they offer you the Market excursion(which is free with Sunwing).....run....its a trap. You will be stuck with a driver who will take you to the Cancun sign to take pictures then to a jewelry store and a very specific souvenir shop. We learned its the owners of the souvenir shop and jewelry store who actually pay for the transportation. We thought we were being taken to an open market, nope. And its a full day. Save yourself the trouble.

Beach
The beach was beautiful, they do a good job of keeping it clean. I wish they had more bougie boards. The staff are quick to your arrival and will find you a lounger chair asap. We didn't have to struggle to find a lounger.

Pool
They have 4 pools, all serving various purposes. The only thing i wish is they paid more attention to who would throw a towel on a lounger chair and you wouldn't see them the whole day use that lounger chair. You had to fight to find a spot at times.

Overall don't hesitate to book this hotel, you will absolutely love it!

My husband, my parents and I stayed eight nights. This is our fifth time in a resort in Mexico. We were quite satisfied with Riu Latino!

Service: The employees were very kind and helpful. Special mention to Manny and Augustin from the sports bar, Guadalupe from the buffet, Marco the fitness instructor, Reyna from the pool bar, Tony from the drinks cart, Guili from the towel stand!

Beaches: We think that Costa Mujeres have nicer beaches than Riviera Maya. Sometimes the waves were strong, bringing a lot of seaweed to the surface, but we did have three days of cleaner water. We loved that the beach stretched for miles, perfect for long walks along the water.

Pools: There were two pool bars, one for volleyball/waterpolo, one with activities, one that is calmer (for a total of five), but we could hear the music from everywhere so it was hard to relax around the pools, as compared to the beach. Clients who seek entertainment will definitely be served, as the team is committed and playful (drinking games, bingo, etc.).

Restaurants: One of Riu Latino’s strong point for us is that their four restaurants à la carte do not require reservations. There was no wait around 6PM. There can be a 20 to 30-minute wait around 7PM, but they give you a buzzer which is highly convenient. The filet mignon steak at the Kulinarium was the best dish, we had dinner there three times! The buffet offers a great variety of food. The seafood was especially fresh and tasty. The pizza was quite alright, as they made their own crust everyday.

Rooms: Very clean and comfortable, full mini bar with liquor dispensers. Each balcony had a clothes rack which was very convenient to dry our bathing suits.

Overall cleanliness and comfort: all areas were regularly cleaned, toilets were air conditioned which made a huge difference compared to resorts where it would smell humid.

Wifi: Very strong signal everywhere, including the section of the beach that was closer to the pools.

Night shows and party: We were quite pleased with the shows that implied live singers/musicians/dancers. Very professional! The nights that ended with live band and Latin dancing floor were fun too. We went to the neon party at Hotel Dunamar and we were impressed by the quality of this all-age party, what a mind-blown experience!

The only inconvenient was that we had to share one key per room.

I visited Riu Latino for a 5-day girls' trip with my sister and mom to celebrate her 80th birthday. My goal was an adults-only, all-inclusive resort with great buffets, entertainment, and clean, calm waters free of sargassum. Riu Latino delivered on all fronts.

The buffets were extraordinary—if that was the only food option, it would’ve still been fantastic. The resort was impeccably clean and well-maintained, with staff going above and beyond (e.g., daily cleaning of soda dispensers and coffee machines). Zero cockroaches.

The resort featured five pools and a beach with soft, cake-mix sand that never got too hot. Although we had some red-flag days, the ocean was warm and calm when we could swim—no need for water shoes or concerns about critters. However, beach service was sparse, so consider bringing your own drink container and floaties.

We always found loungers, even though the hotel was fully booked. The front desk accommodated our request for nearby rooms with ease, and the resort’s elevators and wheelchair accessibility (except for the beach) were appreciated.

Evening entertainment was fun, including stage shows, trivia, and silent discos. Unfortunately, the sound system was painfully loud and distorted, both at shows and poolside activities. Staff could benefit from sound-tech training, until then BRING EAR PLUGS. Quiet areas for relaxation would be a welcome improvement.

While there’s no room service, rooms include hard liquor taps, a stocked fridge, and great housekeeping. After 9 PM, the sports bar offers microwavable sandwiches and burritos—not ideal, but something. Coffee bars and fresh fruit smoothies were standouts and available 24/7.

The resort is about an hour from Cancun Airport but can take up to three hours by shuttle with multiple stops. It’s isolated, so expect a lot of time in shuttles if you want to explore beyond the resort.

For a quiet stay, ask for rooms like 1116 and 1114. Despite nearby construction, soundproofing was excellent. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, especially the bathroom lighting. Beds were cozy, showers great, and thermostats fully adjustable.

I’d return, but I’d like an all-inclusive pricing option without alcohol. As non-drinkers, the cost felt high, but the endless fruit smoothies helped make up for it.

I went to Riu dunamar last year and loved it, tried Riu Latino this year which confirmed I love Riu Hotels. Everyone was so genuinely nice and customer service goes a long way! Unfortunately had an issue not hotel related and had to leave early and they were so comforting about it. I would have stayed longer if I could and I will DEFINITELY be back. Lots of good food options, variety is great. A big plus is that AC worked amazing, sometimes wifi would lock me out but they helped me fix it immediately so no biggie. The girls at the front desk I wish I remembered their 2 names because they made me feel better about my quick and unexpected departure it helped immensely. Always re stocked and cleaned my room and if I was there at the time they made sure I was happy with it, even though I can be very easy to please as long as customer service is good it was greatly appreciated. I cut my foot on glass in my room (not broken by staff) and the had a great sense of urgency to help and seemed more worried about the wound than I was which was very sweet and they re bandaged me twice to make sure it stayed clean for my travels. I could go on forever. Overall, Riu Latino staff was so accommodating in every way. They provide a great experience, great communication, and even if something may be less than favorable for you.. the way they relay that information is very transparent and kind. Patience and understanding is something they excel at. Free shuttle if you book directly was a great perk for me, saves you at least $200 and a lot of stress. As soon as I found the shuttle at airport we left within 10 minutes, as opposed to 3rd party services that had me wait 2 hours last year and were rude. Destination services handles their transfers and they are also amazing, so book directly through Riu if you can, they have crazy good sales so I was able to get the best room for less than a partial sea view would be without the sale they had, which still was price friendly for everything you get. On site activities are amazing, the wave runners / jet skis were incredible and the drone footage they offer is immaculate. Basically 10/10 from booking, to check in to check out. I will sing their praises and I am very picky so this means a lot. Safety is huge as well and they have national guard driving up and down the beach every so often to make sure everyone was good, they even took pictures with tourist lol This is not a paid promo either the pictures speak for themselves

It’s so noisy here. I feel ripped off. I’m so tired. Do not come here if you want to have a nice restful relaxing vacation in the sun.

I can’t get enough sleep and I’m on vacation. It’s impossible to sleep before midnight. In the night they play loud music outdoors until 11:30-12. In the morning the cleaning staff and landscaping start their thing (which is fine it’s their job). I can hear it every time the people in the room above me do something. The rooms have poor sound insulation, and the hallways are very echoey. On one day they blared extremely poorly balanced music in the lobby all afternoon and evening from a loudspeaker. You will also hear drunk people screaming late at night. We requested a quiet room when we checked in.

The beach is nice. Water slide is fun.

The food for breakfast and dinner at the buffet is decent. Restaurants are hit and miss. One night we went for steak and shrimp at the Kulinarium, which was doing a special menu - it was so bad, the shrimp was like rubber, cheese on the potatoes was like stone. Like it had been sitting in a warmer all day. The food after 10pm is embarrassingly bad. It’s better to take something from the buffet and keep it in your room if you want a snack for late. If you want decent coffee go to sports bar or lobby lounge because those are the places with real espresso.

The rooms are okay but barebones. No streaming services on the TV. Wifi is spotty. One pillow per person by default. The bathroom has a motion sensing light, and the main room has a translucent window to the shower. So every time you go to the washroom at night, it turns a light on automatically that illuminates the main space. Very inconvenient and it will disturb your travelling partner. The AC evaporator is right above the entrance hallway to the room and if you run it for an hour you will hear condensate dripping for the rest of the day.

Other things are okay, but if you’re too tired to enjoy them it doesn’t matter. I don’t understand how this is a 5 star establishment.

I’m loosing my mind due to lack of sleep.

Our family of 4 stayed at the RIU Latino Dec 26 - Jan 2. It was our first visit to a RIU resort and our 4th trip to Mexico. All 4 of us agreed the RIU Latino was great! First the resort- it was clean, plenty of places to sit around the pool and at the beach, plenty of overhead cover from the sun, and a good variety at the buffet. Next the staff- I can’t say enough about the staff. As a whole they were friendly, interactive, and helpful. From the front desk (Dulce was so helpful and very accommodating to my food restriction -Celiac), to the entertainment team who smiled every day, invited everyone to participate, and made our time at the pool fun and engaging (shout out to Paola, Marco, and Alex), to the cleaning staff who were always working, whether it was clearing water around the pool or cleaning the rooms. The RIU had a few touches we haven’t seen at other resorts that made it stand out, such as the Neon party with shuttle provided and the drink carts moving around the pools (Mike was so friendly and made a great peach margarita). For beach lovers there was a storm our first day so there was seaweed, but it improved after the storm moved away. There was some seaweed in the water after but it was tolerable. I felt the RIU tried hard to meet the needs of a Celiac customer, including providing an allergy card to give to staff. Some staff were amazing, either walking me through each station or getting a chef to do it. Some staff weren’t sure, but guessed at what was ok- restricting food that was ok out of caution. They had gf pancakes at breakfast, gf bread and gf cookies. There was a variety of food for me to eat even with the gluten restriction. All 4 of us agreed we would definitely go back.

Had a great 8 nights at RIU Latino. Check-in was efficient and quick with Giovanni explaining everything we needed to know. Servers in all restaurants were great. Buffet servers especially great, including Nelly who took great care of us. We went to the Italian and Steakhouse and enjoyed the steak at the Italian more than the steakhouse. Sports bar did have good coffee. The beach is very nice, can walk long distances in both directions. We got a massage on the beach from a local with a tent set up in front of the construction next door. It was too windy the whole time we were there to enjoy any of the water sports. Waterslides are a blast! Many places to choose to sit by the pool and the beach and plenty of shade options. The entertainment team was great getting everyone involved, water aerobics with Marco was a highlight every day and the various games etc set up at night were fun. The silent disco is so fun! Quick service at the bars. Shower had shampoo/body wash combo and a separate conditioner. Sink had hand soap dispenser. The app was handy to know what was going on and if you needed something like extra pillows or blankets or had a problem with the room you just request through the app and they're quick about it. If you need a bathtub, room service, slippers, and turndown service you need to look elsewhere. Otherwise you will be happy at RIU Latino. It is 30 minutes to Cancun so keep that in mind when planning excursions since Riviera Maya will then be that much further.

All the food is really bad, made for hordes and masses of people, it's fine if you want to fill up (lots of food everywhere) but NOTHING is delicious or what you say, what a good lunch I had. Nothing stands out, all the tasteless fruit, cakes and pastries worse than cheap restaurant dining, in the end we ended up eating in Cancun.
All hours very limited, towel service for the pools until 6:00 p.m., everything closes early. Normal attention, neither good nor bad.
In the bathroom of the room they only give you generic brand 3-in-1 shower gel, without any decent brand amenities.
In short, it is a hotel made for the masses of people who are not demanding, or who travel little and are content with this extremely low level of hotel and service.

Hi,
First let me start by saying that travel is a strong passion of mine and I have been visiting this part of the world and the Caribbean on many occasions.
I went here just for a weeks rest and to chill for a while.
I have been to Mexico several times before and have stayed at various chains such as Secrets, Princess, Azul etc.
I don't often write reviews (I know I should), but after reading some peoples "reviews" of this hotel, I felt compelled to write one and give potential travellers MY experience.

This place was exceptional, from being dropped off to being picked up to go back to Cancun airport.
What I noticed the most was how clean and well kept this place was, I know its quite new but I've stayed in one month old hotels with pool tiles missing etc, I was actually looking to find fault here, and I couldn't.
When I arrived I was given a room on the 2nd floor which was ok and had a partial ocean view (that's what I paid for), once I was taken to the room by Jorge (bellboy) I looked out at the ocean and (I am quite fussy) the view was just ok but not really the best as you could see a lot of the tops of the lobby/restaurants etc, I asked Jorge politely could I change, he radioed reception and I was offered two other options, I chose a room around the side on the third floor which was lovely.

The ala carte restaurants were great, I didn't go in Geisha (Asian) as its not a food I tend to go for, Milan (Italian) was my second favourite behind the steakhouse, the buffet was also ok, the morning breakfast offerings were also exceptional and I really cant under people who have complained about the food, even the lunchtime menu at Pepe's was outstanding for poolside snacks.

The bars, also were great, I had many drinks in the lobby bar (Velvet) and Mariachi and met many people in there, although they were not air-conditioned still felt comfortable, the pool swim up bars were also great with an excellent level of service.

The pools (and there's plenty) were also kept in tiptop condition and were checked and cleaned all the time.

The gardens/and grounds are immaculate and the gardeners do a stunning job detailing the plants and bushes so much that you think the plants aren't real.

So basically, all the people complaining about this place, IMO, are the type of person who just complains for the sake on complaining, they need to look in a clean bathroom mirror (there's loads of these in Latino BTW) and complain about what's looking back at them.

I have been a client Riu for many years and I know all the hotels, I was missing this one and I do not return. The hotel sold us a room with an ocean view, by the way very expensive, we arrived and we were assigned the worst room with a view of a construction, we went to reception, and the person of an inappropriate behavior, said he was not aware that there was a construction. (he was mocking) comments that the room that they had sold us themselves was more expensive and we had to pay more , charged us 150 dollars extra for something we had already paid. We chose to pay $55 even more for the pool in room , likewise they were already charging us, pay and get away with something else foolish better we went ahead to have another upset , Mail was sent to management and they replied that we had applied for the up grade with pool, if so but we had no choice, since first hand we applied for something we had already paid. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this Riu. I would return to other cheaper options with the same type of room with pool, with more amenities and better service, such as Catalonia.

They don't inform you about the holidays, you have to ask.

Angry buffet chefs.

Very regular rooms for what they cost. It is saved by the beds that are very large and comfortable, the shower is a simple handle which is not comfortable or rainy like modern hotels.

The hotel does not have parties, they do have nightly shows but all hotels in general have that, for example on Saturday there was nothing. Having so much space to do so much activity, it's funny on the weekend.

We requested every day of the stay filled with fridge bar, they never wanted to go.

The lamp in the room was useless, less they were going, if they did not want to fill us with water.

Italian food and the firm is very rich, we did not go to more specialty since it is a long time the wait for you to be assigned a table , Paola entertainment and asshole towel area the best people, night shows are very good. Clean and quiet pools., we were sent an anniversary attention, it was a pleasant surprise.

It's heavy having to go to Riu caribe to party but sometimes it's the best option since in itself, Latino is boring. They used to have foam parties, beach parties.

Bad sports snacks, nachos cheese is old, one day we got sick from cheese.

Riu caribe themed parties are very good.

I haven't stayed at this resort, but I always bring a white noise machine with me on every vacation. Helps a lot!

Id be surprised if you encountered college kids. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, about 30 mins away from the Cancun strip which is where most of the parties will take place. Besides, I would assume the cost would be a deterrent, as there are many other cheaper options for kids just looking to party.
