This hotel is near the thirunelly temple just 1.5Km before it. The approach road from main road to the hotel is paved with stones and that 200metres is a bumpy ride indeed , a real test for your vehicles shock absorbers..!! We reached there towards the afternoon and we were the only people present there.
Thirunelly is a place where visitors mainly arrive for an overnite stay , with the sole objective of concluding the last rites of their beloved ones , so luxury is not always on the top of their mind …!!! And this has been understood by KTDC too…Not much luxury here but value for money…hmm…yes.
The rooms are big with hot water and other facilities
The food is quite delicious – But you need to give order and patiently wait for atleast 50min…that’s ok as the food is prepared fresh . Nothing wow in it…if only they can make the approach road better , this place will be Swarming with guests

Would never have planned for a stay at a KTDC hotel when other options were available but this time around I was pleasently surprised at the neat and comfortable property at this hotel which is but a short distance from the temple. The staff appeared to vie with each other in courteousness. Right from the reception to the restaurant it was a pleasent experience. I would recommend this place to any body making a visit to this temple hamlet.

The hotel is owned by KTDC and 1.5 km away from the Vishnu temple. The location is awesome and rooms are spacious. The staff are friendly and food served was tasty. Overall it was a quite good weekend at KTDC Tamarind at Thirunelly

i stayed in the tamarind hotel in thirunelli for one day for pilgrimage purpose. the rooms are very spacious and the service of the staff is very friendly and helpful. but the location of the hotel is very remote in the forest area(elephant infected) (of course other resorts are there nearby). You can stay there if u r coming by vehicle. otherwise journey on foot from and to the hotel is risky(200 metres). the thirunelli temple is also far away (1Km). otherwise the hotel is good

This is the ideal location for stay on your visit to Thirinelli Temple. The hotel is located near to the Temple and is inside the forest. The ambiance is good and facilities are also good on a place like this. But one can get there only through own vehicles or taxi es.The rooms are average and food is good.As there are limited rooms there one has to order the food long before for the hotel to prepare it.The staff service is average only. The Tholpetty Jeep trucking place is 14 km from the hotel.

Especially if you don't have a car. It is very stressful to get there by public busses! I cannot recommend for backpackers.
Additionally the staff is very unfriendly. After a 12 hours journey (from kochi) they told us that we have no valid visa! Despite our explanations that we have a visa on arrival which is valid for 30 days, they didn't believe us. We told them to call the police, to call the home stay we've been before and get confirmation that we are not illegally in India. We were really stressed out and got a room after almost 1h discussion. They never apologized, even didnt inform if everything is ok
Preparing food takes them at least 1.5 hours, they are not helpful with organizing a guide/jeep
Room rates are too high (1900/night)

Make sure you return to this Hotel before 8 pm , after 8 PM gate at main entrance will be closed by forest dept. and electrified to prevent wild elephant entering in to the hotel area. Main entrance is common for Tamaraind, Agraharam and one more resort, main entrance is about 100 mts. away from Tamaraind reception.

After temple visit, we have returned to hotel around 7.30pm and found gate was closed by some one, we have contacted Tamaraind reception by Phone and got reply that they are not in a position to come near main entrance due to elephant menace. Security guard at Agraharam was not ready not ready open the gate for guest of Tamarind Hotel.

First I would like to start with the positives,it has a very big Room, decent size shelves,TV with Dth,decent size bathroom and a independent geezer.

Here comes the face squeezing negatives
If your a car lover, you have to think number of times to get down to their place, the narrow passage has lots of big stone, which give your tyres a hard time, no covered car park, what ever we ask to security staff he will say immediately a big noo, reception staff are good,

now to the room, since I have shared the positives, now the negatives in the Room, beds are two single beds, which has to joined and a gap will be formed in the middle which will make you uncomfortable for the middle person especially my kid,the bed is like rock hard (concrete cement)pillow has to be searched (it's really thin),
Coming to Ac:Ac chillness is very good, but they have very particular stabiliser, which works only for a 1 min and reboots every 10min,which makes that 9 min uncomfortable, when the night progress the stabiliser makes really funny sound, which has no words to define.
Pathetic stabiliser or some cunning tricks deployed by management for saving power

Now towards fan:since Ac was a disaster we tried the fan, there are two fans which is very clean but no use, since the beds have been merged, fans have come to the edge,
Once the night progress the fan has become like a wet grinder , daka daka daka, and no speed as well,it was midnight, we stopped all the fans then nature gave us calm and decent sleep.

Now the window:the window has long gaps, due to gaps there were insects inside, our Luck they were not harmful.
Bathroom:Bathroom was a really a plus, decent size, good mirror western closet and a decent size geyser (any time hot water)
Funny part in bathroom:I think they have installed the geyser recently, the funny part was they have done the pipping in plastic for the hot water, that too from a geyser , the plastic pipe has already bent and any time to burst. It didn't affect us.
TV:It had a decent size,Dth restricted to Tamil and malayalam,no English channel, that was ok
Food:good food with decent quantity
Hope the management takes some initiative in rectification, especially the bed and sound of Ac and Fan and refund our amount

The best that can be got at Thirunelly - The hotel is slightly off the main road to Thirunelly. You need to have your own conveyance. Walking is not an option - especially in evening. The elephants can get in any time. The room are just OK. Not very clean - windows do not close well - leading to lot of insects inside. The staff double up as chefs - so food options are limited. There are no other restaurants in the vicinity. Staff are very polite. The temple nearby is very serene too.

The hotel should be your choice if you are coming from Mysore side and plan to drive around this part of Wayanad. Tholpetty reserve is very closeby. , Stop at the Junction were one road leads to Kartikulam and the other to Tholpatti. The small tea shop right there is famous across Kerala for its "Unniyappam". The Appam there very very tasty. It has been there for decades.

Phone network is pretty bad here - you need come out of the hotel to make a call.

The place good for a 1 night, 2 days stay.

Tamarind Thirunelly is quite close to the temple. But the guest house personnel cautioned us about 2 things: 1. Elephants and 2. Naxals. You may encounter elephants crossing the road but that should not be a stopping factor if you act wisely (stopping the car, turn off head lights). Naxal attack had happened on Republic Day, so it may be safe on normal days. I remember that the officials turned down our request for camp fire sighting Naxal problem. Overall, the probability that you will encounter either of these issues is less. If I were you, I would go ahead with my plans.
