We are just back in Bangalore from wayanad and cannot wait to drop in a line about this really good home stay! Rocky nest is the best home stay we have stayed in so far. The rooms are clean and has hot water supply. There are two homes with drawing room, kitchen and toilet on the ground and first floor. Ground floor has two bedrooms and its like a totally private home exclusively for the guest. Perfect for couple and family or group of friends. The owner's house is detached and is separately built on top.
The owner Mr. Salaam was very kind, gave us useful inputs of places to visit around, dine and treated us with great malabar food. He even called to check if we reached safely back home. we definitely recommend this home stay and will our self stay here each time we visit wayanad.

I stayed at this place in my last visit to Wayanad and I loved this place. This place is in the heart of the town, but still away from the hustles and bustles of the town perched on top of a rock. The rooms were very neat with hot water available all the time. We could see the hills from the balcony and there certain calm surrounding this. We could only spend a night here but still we enjoyed every moment of it.

The hospitality of the host Mr Salaam was very good and catered to our needs even without requesting them. The breakfast we had was very tasty and they did not forget to give us the recipe for that. The cost is also reasonable for this nice place. This is an ideal homestay for families wishing to explore the wonderful and enchanting Wayanad.

A lot has been written already about this place and also the hospitality of Mr Abdul. I will just say that this place is really good and Value for Money.
More than anything else the biggest takeaway for me from my whole 3 day trip was that i met Mr Abdul. No doubt he is a very good person and in today;s world when everyone is trying to fool you and try to take more and more money out of you, this person is just opposite.
He is happy to make you happy. Super attitude Man ! Really i felt very happy to have met him rather than anything else. It just shows that still there are people for whom others happiness is the only thing that matters. Hats of Abdul sir..really from bottom of my heart :-)

I highly recommend this place, first of all because it´s very clean (according western touchstones) and located in a quiet and pleasant place. Ans last but not least, the family who runs this homestay is really involved in the well being of their guests. It's very hard to describe but I'd say they made me feel like I was a friend of them, sharing dinners, chatting with the daughter and son and leaning plenty of things about life in Kalpeeta and in India, seeing the wonderful cook's talent of Abida, being well advised to visit the region. I hired a rickshaw (recommended by Abdu Salam) to visit some places around Kalpeeta, I enjoyed a lot cause the driver was very nice, very noble and honest. I stayed only 3 days in july this year, it was a pity I coudn't stay longer so I definitely have to go back and I maybe meet people as lucky as me for having met Abd Salam and his familiy. First of all let's start with the room - we have rented the top floor of the building which consists of two rooms with attached bathroom, a quite big hall and a balcony.
Rooms and bathrooms are very clean and tidy and you will always get hot water. A budget stay with good amenities if you are opting a stay at the heart of kalpetta but need to hide from the chaos of the city, it is indeed at a greenish location inside the city and pollution free.
Now I have to mention about the hospitality, at it's very best. Mr. ABDUL SALAM AND HIS WIFE ABIDA, the two names you'll not forget after the stay back. I have never ever seen such humble personalities in my life. So much humanity and love you probably won't get from your family I would say.
My package included breakfast only for two days but they have even provided lunch & snacks on alternative days for 5 of us. ABIDA deedi your "meen pathiri" , biryani, beef and chicken fry, all these still melts on my mouth. It's getting watery when I always remember your splendid & tastiest dishes.
They are giving these rooms for a very reasonable rate and they are spending 3/4th of the money for their guests like us. That's what you call customer service from heart.
ABDUL ekka, this is the person who steals the show here. Always sees him with a polite smile and humble talks. He knows the best to handle his customers, the fact is he don't treat us as his customers but more like a family member. He will provide you the best guidance throughout wayanad. He even takes the time to accompany us to show the places and also the guidance to unexplored places, and astonishing places you can go only with his help. He will guide you to buy promptly, places to eat good food (that old lady's nadan food was my fav)and teach you to spend your money wisely at wayanad. If I have to say about my experience at this home stay and these peoples, this page will not be enough.
The last thing I have noticed that a guy called "Hauntedtraveller" has provided a poor rating and a reverse review on this page. The two negatives he has mentioned about is night safari and honey.
As this guy is saying, yes you can take your private vehicle for this safari through the jungle, but if you want to be fined by the officials or your life is not a matter you can go on with that.
I must say I have gone for jungle safaris before but I have not seen wild animals this much closer in my life. Mr. Abdul has offered us this safari and he guided us to a professional jeep driver. The safari only costs 5 of us 1200 not 1500 as this "Hauntedtraveller" is saying. From the start of the safari itself we have seen bisons, wild elephants, deers etc. It depends on your luck what animals or how many you'll see. We have seen a lot. Only a professional driver can take you to the place because the forest has full of cameras, only an expert local driver know where the cameras are. If you stop the vehicle to see a wild animal at the jungle you will be fined by the officials whom always roams around the jungle areas. Only the driver knows when to stop, where to stop and how to escape from wild animals those are in front of your vehicle, back and sides. You'll be attacked anytime by wild animals and only they know the way to escape through the roads. That's why I told if your life is not a matter you can go with your vehicle.
Next thing I have noticed from "Hauntedtraveller" is about honey. I have not bought a honey through Mr. Abdul but bought some tea powder. The price printed on the tea powder is Rs.140 for 1/2 kg and we have got it for Rs.80. I have not seen such reduction in any of the stores at wayanad for the same package. The tea tastes very rich because I experienced it from Mr. Abdul Salam's itself and that's why we all bought it. So I consider the same with honey also.
I heard from Mr. Abdul that some guys drunken at the home stay without permission and he even had a talk with these guys. I can only consider this "Hauntedtraveller" as one of this guy.
Mr. Abdul is a very orthodox musalman and he consider his places to be divine and filled with love. If you are planning to visit wayanad to see places and a good guidance and an affordable stay back is needed Rocky Nest is the place. If you are planning wayanad for something else, consider Mr. Abdul's permission while stay back or opt another place. But I bet you cannot get this love from anywhere else. Peace on earth.

Thank You.

I stayed at Rocky Nest with my partner and 3-year-old son. Salem and his family were so welcoming to us, we felt really comfortable and enjoyed their company so much. Our son had a wonderful time. It was the end of our two months travelling in South India and definitely our favourite homestay.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was good, we had hot water. There is a lot of space.

Every day we had amazing home-cooked food and I was always asking Abida for her recipes. We watched the food being prepared in their traditional kitchen. Again, this was some of the best food we had during our holiday. I learned to make Kerala Egg Curry and Purri.

As other reviewers have noted, Salam went out of his way to look after us. We had a wonderful day visiting his friends who lived all around Wayanad, on an organic farm, in the tribal areas, in a thatched cottage. And he took us to several of the local major tourist attractions. His friend, a jeep driver, knew exactly the right spot to go through the forest in the evening where we saw a wild elephant waiting to cross the road.

We wanted to do some shopping and get some clothes made during our last week. Salam and his family took us to all of the best shops, where they knew the owners, who looked after us very well.
Kalpetta town is a lovely place, not too big, not too small. We had lots of nice walks around the shops and the local area.

Thank you Salam, Abida, Jahana, and Javed for making our holiday really special. We look forward to seeing you again.

Our stay at Rockynest was a real highlight of our time in India. The family are wonderful hosts. Abdul was very helpful organising and advising on an itinerary. He made real effort show us the main spots around wayanad. The family are really welcoming and friendly, they even took us to their extended family for dinner which was a great experience we could not have otherwise experienced.

Abida's cooking was fabulous, every meal was delicious and we got to try lots of local foods that were new to us.

We had such a wonderful time at Rockynest, I couldn't fault It. Rockynest is a special place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone!

Unrelated to rocky nest, but we recommend avoiding weekends sightseeing in Wayanad if possible as all sightseeing spots tend to be very busy.
