Our flight home was brought forward so unable to get a ferry from Tinos back in time, so booked based on location (few mins walk from port) & free airport shuttle service.

The hotel is very much like an English Premier Inn the rooms look very similar, so clean modern of an adequate size. There’s also a small fridge & balcony which was nice.

Check In was quick & easy. Breakfast is a decent continental Buffett.

The hotel is by the beach if you have a few hours to kill. Rafina appears to be very quiet in the day but busy at night, after checkin we popped out for a drink & pancakes at nearby restaurant which were very nice.

Best to book airport shuttle at booking but can be done on the day it’s every half an hour.

Would definitely return and recommend to anyone who needs a pre/post ferry accommodation at a reasonable price.

While its location and the sea view is spectacular, the recently renovated Avra Hotel fails to justify its four stars rate. Room (221), was small with obvious signs of dirt in the windows, floor, furniture, even the curtains were filled with dust. Clean sheets and towels though, some amenities and adequate wi-fi. Found used water bottles on the freezer from the previous guests and the worst was the noisy beach bar in front of the hotel, that was playing loud music until four o’clock in the morning. You have to use the a/c in order to get a decent sleep. Breakfast was good, with operational buffet, but service was provided from the stuff due to Covid protocol. There is also a free safe hotel parking.

We stayed in the hotel for a few days in order to attend a wedding that was hosted here. The experience was pleasant enough as the hotel is newly renovated and everything is pretty much in good condition. Hotel strictly adheres to COVID standards and doesn’t take shortcuts, which was much appreciated. Everything is very clean, the shower was powerful, the wifi was fast and the room was pleasant and nicely decorated. There was a nice balcony looking at the sea to relax and heavy curtains inside the room to block the sun in the morning.

The price for the room was quite expensive. I would assume that this is because of the convenience of being on the harbour, because the hotel itself cannot justify the high price. The bathroom could have better privacy (as even couples would appreciate that), the room could be a bit bigger, as we had trouble fitting in our two suitcases and the airconditioning was not centrally installed (there was a separate unit at the room) which was more than adequate but was also a bit dangerous for catching a cold due to the way that it blows the air. Not a big issue, we just had it at low the whole time.

The staff was all pleasant and efficient and welcoming to all our requests. Not much to do in the area but if you are waiting to catch a ship (or have other business in the area) you can stay here for a few days with no concerns.

While researching hotels in Greece for our first trip I started looking in athens, but after considering we were just spending the night and taking a ferry around 7 the next morning I started looking for other options.

That’s when I found the city Rafina via its port that has a slightly shorter and cheaper ferry ride to Mykonos!
Rafina also hosts a beautiful Cycladic church within walking distance of the hotel that is an absolute must for photo lovers and those interested in religious history

From there I found Avra hotel:

Avra has a free airport shuttle, breakfast included (it was delicious), 5 minute walk to the ferries, and rooms with sea view balconies… all for about $130 usd at the time we went (late September)

There are many restaurants nearby, but perhaps none beat Avra Bar and Restaurant at the hotel. We had pork and chicken dishes cooked perfectly and for dessert, decadent chocolate and strawberry heart shaped cakes - the whole meal was about $40 usd

The value for the price at this hotel is unmatched, would definitely stay here again

A 20 minute ride from Athens airport and a five minute walk to the Rafina ferry docks, Avra has modern, sleek lines, nice room furnishings, and a very contemporary ambiance.

The beds were as to be expected in Greece; without splurging on ultra luxury, you can expect single, double, and queen beds for about 100 Euro. Ours had three beds and a balcony with a sea view.

Avra Hotel is perfectly located for walking to many restaurants, the area platiea, and shopping. A powerful a/c unit was helpful to cool down after exploring.

Caution: If your reservation receipt shows a 12 noon checkout show the front desk or they will insist that you leave at 11 am.

Due to the near monopoly of rooms near the port of Rafina when ferries arrive late or depart early, this hotel can charge high rates. The rooms are small and hot, the beds are uncomfortable, the bathrooms filthy and the balcony uncleaned (I stepped on another guest’s clipped toe nail). Add that breakfast place is ridiculous and that the reception man does not wear the mandatory face mask and you have the full picture.

Suggestion is to find a hotel nearer to Athens or the airport and to skip this nightmare hotel.

We stayed here twice, one night at each end of our trip. The public areas of the hotel and lovely - modern, open and spacious. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room we had on the first night was fantastic, the room on the second stay average. Beds were very comfortable, and the air conditioning was really great. The view out to the port is really nice too. We ate in the restaurant during out second stay and the dinner was actually really good. Freshly prepared food in very nice surroundings. The free airprot shuttle was also a real bonus and made the stay fantastic value for money. Will definitely stay here again.

This hotel was just what I was looking for. I needed a hotel that provided transport to the airport for my flight back to the states the next day. The shuttle pick up times were spot on and there was no issue with being picked up from the airport or when I was flying out. It was just a great service and the shuttle driver was very polite and drove safely. The hotel is very nice anyone needing a hotel close to the port or with free shuttle to the airport could not find a better hotel. My daughter loved the hotel and she liked the food we ordered at the hotel restaurant the evening prior to leaving. The location is convenient and the staff was helpful. You can also find about 3 or 4 pharmacies within 5 or 6 minutes walking distance where you can take a covid test to get back into the states for 7 euro so it was a win win situation for me. Great choice for a quick stay.

Kind of a nightmarish experience. Booked a one night stay as we came back from the islands and had an early afternoon flight from Athens the next day. Gave my flight info for the shuttle, arriving at 6:15 pm and was told to take the 6:30 shuttle. It was our anniversary so we were hoping to catch a sunset dinner. Flight landed at 6:12 and was able to get out there at 6:35 after getting luggage. Shuttle had left. With some passengers from our flight who didn’t have to check baggage. Would have been nice to wait a couple of minutes so we didn’t have to wait an hour at the airport but I get that they are on a schedule. We wait an hour. 7:30, no shuttle. 7:35, no shuttle. I call and they apologize and say he must be late. Finally shows and we get to hotel around 8. By the time we check in (no wifi in lobby while you wait) it is too late for dinner so we just grab some gyros nearby. Front desk did give us a 15% off restaurant coupon for our trouble which I told the person I was corresponding with via email who was nice enough to ensure we got on a shutttle (so I guess they view an hour of our time worth $1-$2). We find some couches in the corner to eat and then a few minutes later are told we can’t eat there that it is for hotel guests. Um, we are guests but I guess there is a language barrier. Fine, we just took it back to our room. Very tired so go to bed around 9:00. 20 minutes later I am woken up by our hotel room phone ringing. A call from the front desk. Why? To tell me that I was mistaken in my email and that the 15% off coupon cannot be applied to the breakfast buffet, only the restaurant menu items. Lol. Needless to say I probably won’t be staying here again. But if you need a hotel for a quick overnight for an Athens flight it should be fine if you don’t have shuttle issues. Rooms are modern and clean. Staff and management might want to try and be a bit more accommodating and sympathetic towards traveling guests. Buffet is decent and the lady that runs it was very nice.

Flew into Athens at 20:50. Free shuttle to the hotel at 21:30 that took about 20 minutes and we were in our room by 10:00! The Avra serves food in the restaurant til 11pm so we were able to grab a snack and a drink before bed. Up early (6am) to get breakfast before the ferry at 07:30.
All was going according to plan until the weather decided to intervene and ferries were cancelled. The Avra personnel were good and helped out where possible. Thankfully the weather improved and we were able to take a late afternoon sailing. Having to vacate our rooms by 11am and sit in reception was not ideal, but it was comfortable and we were able to use the hotels' facilities.
General stuff:- Food was good, breakfast buffet more than adequate, rooms comfy (especially the mattress! Very comfortable!)

I recall emailing hotel directly, they pick up at the airport. It is a bit of a drive to the hotel, not next door to the airport. As I recall 20-30 minutes, but double-check that. Cute little town with lots of restaurants. There are closer hotels to ATH but more $$. Good luck.

No clear indication of what is happening with the Avra. Rumours abound about the reasons for closure but whatever they are, they appear to have been money related. I went past at the end of last month and there was no activity whatsoever; the taxi-driver did not think they would be opening any time soon.
