We had a wonderful, relaxing week at Secrets. The views were spectacular, the staff warm and friendly, the food delicious, and the drinks plentiful! We ate at every restaurant except Olio’s as we had the romantic dinner on the beach instead. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure your complete enjoyment

Stayed at this property for 3 nights. I have been to 3 other Secrets properties and this one ranks by far the worst. Cons - property is in dire need of renovation: jacuzzi closed with rain and mud water in it, rooms show water damage (room door was warped and hard to open), spa didn't even have a working jacuzzi, grounds in tough shape. Service - checked in and got 2 pillows for a king bed, at 9PM the bellman was already gone for the night, so no help with bags, maid service would leave 2 towels only, TV didn't work properly. Food - breakfast and lunch good, dinner not good at all. Avoid Italian restaurant as this was the worst food we found. Spa - can't charge to room. Nightlife - unless you like being kept up until 1030-11PM avoid. Every night the same girl sings in the lobby which creates lots of noise throughout the whole property. Our room was close by and even with ear plugs it was way too loud. Not many activities during the day compared to other Secrets. Pros - St Martin is an amazing island. People are friendly, its clean and very pretty. The beach at Secrets is nice and faces away from seaweed, calm clear water. I like the Secrets brand, particularly the Mexico resorts. The difference here is Secrets didnt build this resort. They acquired it and its probably 40 years old and shows its age. Great location but needs a lot of capital!

First and foremost, the staff are absolutely lovely. This review does not reflect their hard work and charm. SECRETS resort is owned by Hyatt. The drive up is breathtaking. (After driving through so very depressing areas) our check in was smooth. Ridge was great getting us registered. Quintin our bellman was so sweet and attentive. Upon arriving to our Jr Suite King Garden view room, we were met with the immediate order of must and mildew. Water stains on the bathroom ceiling. The decorative bed pillows smelled of mildew. Only keeping the AC at an Arctic temperature quelled the scent. Oh are garden view was hedges blocking the staff access road Each restaurant had very little variety. Mostly pre fixe. I expected a more upscale selection. On an island not even a seafood themed restaurant to be had. The jacuzzi in the werk we are here was out of order. The pool had chipped paint inside the beach bar was a folding table with an overwhelmed bartender. Speaking of the bartenders and I use that term loosely there was not one consistently made drink the entire time we were here. The overpoor and lack of knowledge of spirits was evident. There were times we left drinks barely sipped on because they were too dare I say strong to consume. I don't believe their staff was ever trained to be bartenders. Want to go into town? Make sure you bring lots of cash because a round trip taxi ride will cost about $100. You have no other way of getting into town unless you rented a car. In hindsight would have probably been cheaper. I could go on but I believe you've gotten the point. Definitely stay on the Dutch side.

Today is our last full day of a ten day stay here at Secrets Anse Marcel and we've enjoyed another wonderful Secrets vacation. While this property is definitely not the nicest, most luxurious Secrets we've ever been to, it is filled with wonderful restaurants, amazingly kind and attentive staff, a beautiful pool and a lovely beach. The resort itself is aged and needs some updating but that is happening since Secrets has recently purchased the property and is upgrading the facilities. The only drawbacks we can provide are related to activities. This is a very quiet, laid back resort with few activities each day. There are yoga and water fitness classes but they are not advertised well by the staff so if you aren't watching the clock and seeking out the activity you'll likely miss it. There was a foam party at the pool on Sunday afternoon with a DJ and great music but the rest of the week definitely lacked a continuous mix of music by the pool. There is music at the lobby bar each evening and karaoke on Sunday and Wednesday night but otherwise, no nightly entertainment like other AMR resorts we've been to. I include the drawbacks to provide a completely honest review but I also gave the overall review a 4 out of 5 because the negatives in our opinion are small and certainly didn't stop us from having a terrific vacation and we will be back. The people at the resort and on the island are fabulous and some of the most genuine, friendly people we've met in the Caribbean. Staff members at the resort made our stay a wonderful experience. We especially loved getting to know Patricio, the bar manager and Antionette in the Market restaurant daily. The pool bartenders are great, especially Rolinda who was spunky and made great drinks and Brenton whose service was always top notch.

This was our first time in St Martin for more than a day off of a cruise ship. The resort is small but has all the amenities you need to have a wonderful week. The staff we’re all excellent. The resort is not quite up to normal secret standards but it’s obvious that they are working on it constantly toward that goal. A special shout out to the staff members Patrick, Brenton, Antoinnette, the Barefoot grill cooks and staff and Rolinda. Also yoga teacher Lynne was fabulous and provided a wonderful yoga experience on the deck with the best few I’ve ever had. We will definitely return. Patrick did a great job of making sure we had a wonderful guest experience. It also helps that we felt safe enough to leave the resort and actually experience the beautiful country.

What a wonderfull Hotel; the most friendly staff, a very very clean room, excellent food. I would like to send special Thanks to Mimi, Theogene, Ivan, Latifa, Antoinette and all the others of the lovely breakfast team. You have created a perfekt start in every single day of my holidays; I highly recommend the Teppanyaki at HIMITSU; but one can be sure to have fantstic dinner in every restaurant at this resort. You all couldn't have done any better - so to feel at home immediately is the best way to enjoy holidays :o)

As a UVC member, we have been several secrets resorts. I must say that Secrets St. Martin is by far the worst Secrets resort we have been to. The food is terrible. There are no activities and no shows in the evening. When lounging around the pool during the day, it's like being at a funeral. When we arrived we had a problem with our room. It took 3 days to get this problem resolved only because I finally went to the director of the resort Bernard, who seems to be the only one that gets things done. AMR Collection and Hyatt has a lot of work to do with this place. For now don't pick this resort as you vacation spot. I would choose Secrets Cap cana or Secrets Akumal.

Dear Bentabb On behalf of the staff and Management of our resort we appreciate the time you spent to share your comments following your visit to our resort, and we would like to offer you an apology for not completely fulfilling your expectations. We are deeply sorry for the inconveniences you encountered. However we sincerely lament reading that some parts of your experience was not as pleasant as it should have been, there seems to have been a number of deficiencies encountered which are very atypical and not reflective of our brand experience; if this stay was marred by irregular circunstances, we can only renew our apologies and I would like to mention that our Operations Committee has already read your valuable remarks. We take all comments such as these very seriously and will do our best to correct all points made. Your review has stimulated us to continue endeavor to achieve your satisfaction if you decide to honor us with a new visit in our restaurant. Sincerely, Iliana Perez Social Media Coordinator

Preferred side does not exist at this location, only one club (everyone has access - so not really "preferred" either) and only actual rooms (not areas) considered "preferred". No preferred side to the beach either. No preferred individual pool. There is top shelf alcohol at all of the bars which is a plus. Drink cups are really small compared to other locations by the way. For those who have experienced preferred at the other locations, know that you will not see all the little things that you have learned to associate with Secrets. That kind of hospitality does not exist for the loyal UVC members/paid preferred at this location. If this had been the first Secrets I had stayed at - there is no way I would have bought into the UVC. There were several first time Secrets customers who indicated they would never go to another one. We have been to 4 different Secrets, and they were amazing! Excellent service, rooms, hospitality, people, management, etc. Our door was left open by housekeeping a couple of times during the week. We requested the VIP contact, Fernando to let housekeeping know - he indicated that he put in a work order for the door to be fixed :/ - The door itself was not broken, it did not shut on its own - similar to other hotel doors. And it happened again. Nothing was missing from our room. Seaweed is an issue at most Caribbean beaches. The public beach next to us cleaned up the seaweed, helping to keep it from returning to the water and washing up again. Secrets did very little to remove it. Most of the staff near the beach seemed to be busy talking to each other or listening to a podcast. We have watched the staff at Dreams Jade and Secret St James work all day cleaning seaweed up. This could very well be a shortage of people at this time. We are sending the manager this same information via email in hopes that things will definitely change in the future. We love the location and fell in love with the island. We will come back to the island, but not this Secrets until the reviews are much better. They do appear to be making improvements to the property. The issues we experienced seem to be more of a management issue vs a brand issue. I hope these issues will be resolved so the guests can have the excellent experience we have enjoyed at the other locations. I would like to mention the food staff was great. The bellhop, Quincy assisted us to our room and went through detailed instructions for items in our room. He was very helpful and thorough.

Poor orientation upon arrival. Poor service. We had an injury in our group (on the resort’s equipment) and getting simple 1st aid was impossible. We were told to hire a taxi to go get bandages & supplies. Breakfast is great but the other meals are not quite as good as Golden Corral (catching the dark humor there?). The general manager of the property is out of his depth. This leads to failures of service in every corner of the resort. Find another way to see St Martin.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here. While the property could use some improvements (I noticed consistent maintenance during out stay so they're working on it!), the real highlight was the staff. We felt so welcome, pampered, and could tell that everyone there was genuinely interested in us having a great experience. Patricio, Elicia (Everyone at the Rendezvous bar), Hector, Brenton, Constant, Jahmeisha, Jerry, Claudius, and so many others were absolutely amazing. I am terrible with names, but I couldn’t help remember quite a few because they made such a great impression. The food was excellent across the board and I even scared the hell out of a manager at Marketplace when I stopped to tell her how amazing the lamb was! Sorry, Friend! That dish will be in my dreams. The overall feeling is one of relaxion, warmth, and positivity. The way we were greeted from the time we walked in to a causal passing in the courtyard was second to none. The positivity extended to the guests and everyone was in a great mood. There is a little to be desired with amenities (hot tub out of commission) but this did not detract from our overall experience. Everything else was so great that I hardly noticed. At one point, the battery died in our room lock. The gentleman handling the minibar service was nearby and made sure he got someone to there to fix it right away. It was handled promptly, efficiently, and we had a lovely drink at the bar while we waited. If I had to complain about anything, it is the absence of an ATM and the ability to access cash/change. You need cash on this island for some of the shops I truly wanted to tip more because of the service we received. The other issue I had was with other guests who were lacking patience or manners. It wasn’t common, but I had to fight the urge to correct them like they were my kids a few times. You’re in paradise, Chill Out! The landscape crew did a great job with maintaining the grounds and I truly enjoyed the variety of plants and critters. Make sure you watch for the hummingbirds!! The views in the cove are incredible and be sure to spend time in the Nature Reserve that is right next to the resort. We hiked to a beautiful secluded beech and enjoyed every moment of it. I’ll also caution you to ensure that cab drivers give you a rate BEFORE they take you anywhere. I found it to be a bit expensive and would have preferred to rent a car had I planned ahead. Try not to mind the nit-pick criticisms of this place and embrace the island vibes. You won’t regret it.
