Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn is celebrated for its stunning views and private hot tubs in each room, though a few guests have mentioned the lack of air conditioning and isolated maintenance issues. The hotel's amenities, cleanliness, and service are consistently praised, with the attentive staff enhancing the welcoming vibe.
While the hotel's artful atmosphere and rustic charm captivate many, opinions on value vary, with some questioning the cost, particularly during shorter stays.

After a long flight from London via Paris we arrived in San Jose at around 19.00hrs, we where promptly picked up and whisked off the Finca Rosa, about 30-40 mins away. We where greeted by the wonderful staff at check-in and taken too our room, well, what a loverly room, very large balcony, we could see the lights of the capital in the distance. We had booked in for 2 nights as our starting point to our first trip to Costa Rica. The room was very spacious and very clean, great bed as well. As you would expect the coffee in the room was amazing, actually the best I tasted on our 2 week trip (just wish I had purchased some to take home, my biggest mistake). The bar and restaurant where really good, and very well priced. All I can say is what a great place to stay, when I go back to CR I will make this my first point of call once again. Finca Rosa team, keep up the great work, a fantastic resort, thanks for looking after us so well.

Dear I_J, thank you so much for writing and sharing your experience with us. It really is always so wonderful to read our guests' reviews, and our staff always is delighted to read them as well. I am glad you liked our award-winning coffee-in October we won the World Coffee Challenge award for best organic coffee in the world, so we are delighted and our staff who do almost all the work are hyper proud as well. If you want to buy some via ecommerce, our representatives in the USA are Farm Cup Coffee and in Canada, Ingredients Natural. Again, we really appreciate you taking time to share your observations, and we all hope you will be back soon to see some of the upgrades we are making and go home with an armful of our organic coffee.

We stayed here for two nights as the first stop on our 3 week tour of Costa Rica. After a very long journey from Europe the welcome at reception made everything worth while, warm friendly and very professional. We were taken to our room, Piedra, which is in the central house, the room was spacious, clean and quirky with beautiful panoramic views over San Jose. A large patio/balcony with sun beds gives excellent views of the surroundings, this could be even better with a couple of normal chairs to relax in.
All meals are taken in the same restaurant and all the different staff we met through the course of the day were very friendly and helpful and showed a real interest in their guests added to which the food was delicious. In summary a lovely place to stay in beautiful surroundings and very friendly staff,

Dear Kp1608; Thanks for your comments- we do really appreciate your input and for describing your stay. we have heard from so many of our European guests about how nice it is, after a 10 or 11 hour flight, to only have to travel 20 minutes from the airport to arrive here. We love to welcome you and to be in charge of your first impression of Costa Rica. Our staff are all people from the surrounding area and this are very proud, friendly and warm (Costa Ricans are renowned for this!). The coffee highlands,as you mentioned, are above and away from san Jose, but the views are amazing and the surrounding coffee fields are inviting, full of birds and nature and our altitude offers us the amazing climate and temperature (average day time temp is 79F/27C degrees, night time 57F/14C) which makes for a perfect climate. Our farm to table fare is one of our obsessions- not only to we grow most of our greens, herbs, edible flowers and tubers only steps away from the restaurant, we have hundreds of citrus, fruit and bananas growing in our coffee farm. Again, thanks for taking time to write about your visit!

We visited the hotel during February 2021, first I would have to say that the location, the infrastructure and the personnel were amazing. It's close to the city but you feel like being in a retreat paradise. The lobby, suites, pool and other amenities are in perfect shape, really well maintained and lastly every staff member has a smile when servicing you. On a side note, the SPA is also amazing and the deep tissue massage was really professional and relaxing. I really believe this hotel is one of the best places to visit and have a relaxing weekend.
The only part that really disappointed us was the restaurant. The place itself is magical and has a great view, the service of the staff is great, they are there to answer your questions and again always a smile. The quality of the food is another story, the menu is not that big but has good variety but the execution of the dishes is not good. I order a BBQ ribs that was supposed to be cooked for hours (I assumed will be super tender and full of flavour) nevertheless it was super dry, the meat was not tender and overall flavour was barely acceptable. My wife ordered gnocchis in a roasted tomato sauce and to be honest the sauce tasted like bottled BBQ. The breakfast was acceptable but nothing to be amazed. The prices of the restaurant are not super high but are not worth the quality of the food. I was sincerely excited about eating here but considering the amazing place the hotel is, the quality of the restaurant is not up to the hotel. Maybe more basic food but well executed could benefit the place. Especially considering that if you are staying there, at night, you will expect to have dinner in the hotel and not going out. Another thing to improve would be to be able to serve beverages in the pool. In a 4/5 stars hotel you would expect pool service but here you have to go to the restaurant each time you want something to drink in the pool.
In regards to Covid protocols, everything was really well managed and you feel safe all the time so no complaints

Dear stefanodZ8738DJ; Thank you for taking time to write about your stay with us. I also appreciate your excellent and complete constructive criticism about the restaurant. I am sorry that the food was not at the level you expected and that the experience was less than what t should be in the restaurant. We will look into why this happened and of course on improving the dishes that we serve. The Gnocchis are a specialty- they are hand made using Pejibaye flour a unique Central and South American food that is really only consumed now by Costa Ricans and Colombians. The tomatoes come from our greenhouse and are fresh and organic: So we will do more sampling and see how we might be able to improve the sauce. Thanks again for the nice review and for your thoughts.

Let's begin for what it is more obvious, this is an small boutique hotel meant to disconnect yourself from the day to day, no AC, no TV, but it is certainly not needed.
The hotel is an small boutique with less than 20 rooms. Our room was big, had an small sofa area, the bed and the bathroom with hot tub. The hotel and rooms are in the middle of the mountain so it is really quiet, you can go to bed with the view of the mountain and city lights in the background.
The hotel has a pool large enough and a jacuzzi, also my understanding is that there are some rooms with jacuzzi as well.
We did use the spa service and it was excellent.
Last but not least, the food from the restaurant was really good, it can improve adding q couple more options, specially in the afternoon break.
Overall this place is highly recommended.

Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn is amazing! They are perhaps the most hospitable place we have ever stayed. All the staff speaks English. We loved the coffee farm experience and the fresh brewed cups every morning and afternoon were a dream. We ate basically every meal x 4 days here and each meal was thoughtful and tasty. These were healthy yet satisfying meals. The property is beautiful putting all my house plants to shame. The view is spectacular. You are near San Jose but feel tucked far away. They arranged 3 different excursions for us each which was wonderful. Each driver they arranged was on time. They even arranged the COVID antigen tests we needed prior to returning to the US and this couldn't have gone more smoothly. The water is treated so you don't have to worry about getting sick. Can't recommend more.

Dear Elizabeth, thank you for your very kind comments and for sharing your experiences. It is always rewarding to read these kinds of reviews from our guests, as it shows us we are doing things as we would like, and in every aspect, we try to deliver these same unforgettable experiences. Our restaurant is, as you know, a "farm to table" concept and almost everything you eat comes from our farm or our greenhouse straight to the kitchen and your plate. We also concentrate on Costa Rican cuisine, and try to innovate and add as many of the myriad ingredients found in this country as possible (where it seems everything grows) to not only enhance the dining experience, but also so that our guests can explore and learn about the foods grown here in Central America, which are delicious, nutritious and very, very satisfying. Also, we are so happy you could try the many activities we offer here, from volcano exploration, to cultural heritage tours and of course, the paramount experience from here- a visit to the organic, forested coffee farm and the processing plant. There's nothing like walking through a coffee farm, seeing the plants, the forest and the birds, and then walking into the "beneficio" where the smell of freshly roasted beans permeates the air. Again, thank you so much for taking time to share your experience and for letting us know how much you enjoy your time here.

Beautiful rooms and views from Finca Rosa Blanca. It feels like you’re transported somewhere else but it’s just right outside of San Jose. Everyone there is very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great food at the restaurant but I would say they should have another vegetarian main dish, especially if you’re staying there for a few days, your options for the main are limited to the 1 gnocchi dish. The coffee plantation tour here is the best! I did the Starbucks one as well so I could compare, and this is hands down the best tour to do. Extremely informative, you learn so much! The coffee tasting afterwards is also really great. Learning about their sustainable operation is very inspiring.
If you don’t have a car, Uber is great in San Jose and we had no issues calling an Uber to Finca to get downtown and come back afterwards.
I will definitely be back to stay here in the future!

Dear Avijay; Thank you for sharing your experiences and for the nice comments about Finca Rosa Blanca. I will definitely share your suggestions with our chef, Erick Camacho, who takes price in everything he serves -mostly from the organic greenhouse and surrounding organic herbs, fruits and tubers. We generally always have at least two fully vegan dishes but we are in the process of adding more, as so many people want to find more variety when staying here. Also, the quality of our food at El Tigre Vestido restaurant is based not only on fresh organic produce, but also on using these ingredients to create truly delicious and unique dishes for our guests. Ulises (Mr. Coffee) is just amazing because he is an encyclopedia of coffee and his great interpretative charm is contagious and so educational. We are the only coffee tour in the country that offers a tasting, as it is essential that you really understand the process of how coffee is graderd and why. Ofr course, we also are very proud of the quality of the coffee, so we love to share it with our guests. Again, thanks for writing about your stay!

The hotel is located on a coffee plantation not far from the airport and has been delightfully decorated.
We are fussy travellers and the stay was a very pleasant experience for us.
Our room was very spacious, clean and had an amazing views overlooking San Jose.
The food was delicious and the coffee tour interesting.
Special thanks to Barbara who assisted us with a bit complicated booking and other arrangements. We only wish we could have stayed two nights instead of one which was not possible because the hotel was fully booked.

Dear Raylwona, Thanks for sharing your comments and for the very nice review of your stay. I am glad your room, the food and the grounds were all you had hoped for- and of course, as you say, it is always much more satisfying to stay with us at least 2 or 3 nights to get to enjoy the activities, culture, and pampering we have here. And if you can stay your last night again, we are, as you pointed out, only 20 minutes or so from the airport. Again thank you for the kind words- will we see you again soon?

We stayed for one night at Finca Rosa Blanca at the end of a truly amazing 2 week holiday in beautiful Costa Rica! Everywhere we stayed was fantastic except for our stay here. The reception staff were friendly on arrival but we then went to the restaurant for an afternoon coffee. The restaurant staff barely acknowledged us but finally came over to take an order for coffee. We then went to walk around the hotel but we couldn’t follow the trail as there was a tree blocking the path. We didn’t use the pool or hot tub as it was raining quite a lot but they looked nice.
The dinner was a real low point of our stay. We were again barely acknowledged on arrival and seated at a dirty table. About 5 minutes after we arrived someone came to wipe the table down. Another 15 mins went past before someone came to take our order but we had not been given a menu or a QR code to order. We ordered and waited more than 15 minutes for drinks and over an hour for food. We ordered main courses and when they finally arrived they were very small and not very nice. Once we finished we waited another 20 minutes and no one came to clear our plates. We had planned to order desserts but in the end we got up and left the table and went to the desk to sign the bill. No one apologised for the slow service or asked how our meal was. The service was better at breakfast the next morning and the food was fine.
The hotel is quaint but the rooms feel tired. We stayed in a villa in rooms El Higuerón and El Pino Junior Suites. The rooms were dark and smelt fusty. My husband’s side of the bed was infested with ants when we came back from dinner and I’ve seen this problem reported on other reviews. When we woke up the next day his suitcase had also become infested with ants even though there was no food in his case so we had to remove everything and spray it.
I think this hotel was probably nice in the past but it feels very tired and not well run now and I think the staff know it and don’t come across as happy and motivated and wanting to deliver high standards. Even when we checked out no one asked us how our stay had been. We were really surprised as we were so impressed with everywhere else we went in Costa Rica. I’ve also noticed on every negative review on trip advisor the manager doesn’t seem to listen and just defends the hotel so am not expecting any acknowledgment of these issues but I would really not recommend this place. If you are staying for a short stop in/near San Jose I would recommend the Xandari Hotel which was fantastic when we first arrived in Costa Rica and only 20 mins from the airport.

Dear LCXP, thank you for bringing to our attention your dissatisfying experience with us. I am so sorry for the unpleasant meal and lack of follow up at our restaurant, and we will certainly bring this to the attention of our restaurant staff and chef, as this is totally unacceptable. We are usually very attentive and focus on our guests, so again, please accept my sincerest apologies (I am the owner/operator for 33 years with my wife) for the disappointing evening. As for the humidity, unfortunately, we are in the middle of our rainy season where it is extremely rainy, and as most tropical countries, the atmosphere can be musty sometimes-both outside and in the rooms. We try diligently to keep it as fresh as possible and all the bedclothes, cushions and other fabrics are washed and dried thoroughly before every guest arrival, but I am truly sorry it caused you such discomfort. As for the ants, these are called "sugar antes" and only invade when they smell food, and otherwise they are never seen. Is it possible that you had something in the suitcase or something dripped on it? You said only one suitcase had ants on it, which leads us to believe there was some food on the outside or inside that you may not have realized. I would respectfully like to dispel your notion that our staff "don’t come across as happy and motivated and wanting to deliver high standards." Of course, we always try to do better when we receive constructive criticisms, but it distresses me when their dedication and enthusiasm is dismissed after just one short stay. They are such amazingly kind, hard workers with an extreme dedication to their pueblo and our hotel (all of our staff are local members of our communities surrounding the Inn), They are caring, heartfelt, kind, enthusiastic about our work and our sustainability and truly focused on the best quality experiences possible, and they have been so for decades. I will, of course, share your comments with them because they need to know that they were unable to meet your expectations, and certainly need to improve, but my wife and I are like "parents"/friends/employers as they pride themselves on their love of our guests and our Inn. Again, I am sincerely sorry that your time spent with us was unsatisfactory, and we will work hard to use your comments to foment real improvement.

My daughter and I very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely plantation! Ed and Pablo were very helpful with our reservations and greeted us when we arrived. All the staff were attentive and friendly. Even the owner said hello! The resort is quiet and peaceful. The hotel design and artwork reminded me of Barcelona, a Gaudi influence. Each room has its own character. Our room was perfect. The windows open with a breeze flowing, the birds singing and the sun shining in! The pool is a gorgeous escape with the little blue birds that dipped down for a drink in the afternoon. The flowers, Swiss cheese plants and ficus trees built on the feeling that we had stepped into Wonder Land.
We took the coffee and birding tours led by Ulysses. He explained how this plantation was different from large production coffee growers and the organic and sustainable practices they use. We sampled the coffee at the end of the tour. During the birding tour Ulysses was able to locate several species just from their calls. He even captured a few pictures with my phone! I was very impressed. I would recommend wearing hiking shoes and bring water. The hike is not hard but due to altitude I had to stop to catch my breath.
The FOOD! The best farm to table we had on our entire trip. The chefs and restaurant staff are amazing. We savored each meal, my favorites were the gnocchi and the avocado toast. I bought several bags of coffee to bring home and wish I bought more.
Thank you FRB!

Hola Dolly! Thank you so much for such a wonderful and detailed description of your stay. I, of course, remember meeting you with Ulises on the bird tour in the early morning, and it was so encouraging to see your excitement and pleasure describing the birds you had seen already (I believe you saw a Motmot, a orange-chinned parakeet and toucan, no?) We love sharing the coffee farm with guests like you- curious, nature-loving and adventurous where we can not only tell the story of the 135 bird species we have here, but also walk through the forested coffee field discovering the myriad wildlife that lives there. Sustainability has been our philosophy and model for over 30 years here, and the organic and restorative coffee production is our passion (and we get to drink the results! LOL) Our food is also part of this passion, and we are so involved in the "farm-to-table" concept, bring our farm grown and greenhouse grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, tubers and so much more right to the kitchen where Ricky can prepare these innovative and delicious offerings to our guests. And of course, like the coffee, we eat there often as well! Again, thanks so much for sharing your experiences with us and next time we will take you on some other of our activities, such as our cultural tour where you can go and see the famous mask-makers of Barva, and end up in one of the oldest central markets in the country in Heredia only 15 minutes from our inn. Saludos desde Costa Rica!

This place is amazing! Every inch of this property is curated to show off the natural beauty surrounding you. We had the privilege of being in the les aves suite so we had our own private backyard dripping with amazing plants and flowers to keep us company while we relaxed in our hot tub. Pablo was very helpful even during the planning stages of the trip. He arranged all of our tours and spa treatments. The front office staff were all really helpful and accommodating and one even rescued us from a (completely harmless) spider. Lol We went on two tours on the property with Ulysses. He’s worked here 9 years and knew absolutely everything about the property and the birds and plants there. The bird tour was so fun and we saw so many cool birds and butterflies and it was super neat to see how the coffee farm was run and to drink our coffee after! Yum! We had a glorious spa treatment which included a massage, a facial and a full body coffee scrub and wrap. Omggggg our skin has never been so bright and soft. Amazing and relaxing! Last but definitely not least, we did the chef’s tasting menu at the restaurant and omg, it was beautiful and interesting and delicious. Really much more than this city girl expected from a teeny kitchen by a volcano! We were really impressed with the freshness and flavors of everything including the wine pairing. The chef came out and chatted with us at the end and it was such a lovely night.
A couple things to remember- it’s much cooler here than the beach, I wish I’d have packed more jeans, it’s the rainforest and there are bugs, bring bug spray!
Overall we really enjoyed our experience here. It’s really a one of a kind place!

Hola, TraveledMoon; What a nice surprise to read your wonderful review, and of course we were all so pleased to hear in detail about so many of your wonderful experiences. Pablo in reception was so happy to know you enjoyed your stay so much and Ulises, the coffee guide, was grinning from ear to ear reading your remarks about his tour, and the same for Andrea at the Spa. Kevin Charpentier commented that the next time you come back, he wants to make you the coffee connoisseur's menu, creating new and innovative dishes all with coffee using our locally grown ingredients and spices. Thanks again for being so detailed about your stay, and we will be looking for you when you next visit our country.

Hola 9Wattsy10
We have all kinds of visitors to Finca Rosa Blanca, including single women, single men, couples, families, business people and adventure travellers. I am sure we can accommodate your every need and you will meet interesting people who are drawn to a place like our small hotel/coffee plantation.
It is very tranquil and visually beautiful here (we consider our resort a work of art), but we offer a lot of different tours when one wants to get out a bit: cultural tours, culinary& chocolate tours, hiking in the cloud forest, volcanoes and so much more.
And our chef, Gustavo \Alvarado is really amazing and uses all of our greenhouse "farm to fork" idea of slow food, with lots of creative dishes using Costa Rican ingredients.
Please check out our web page and you can read in more detail about who we are- a family owned (3 generations) experience.
Saludos
