I had a chance to visit Pohon Inn on my way from Malang to Mt. Bromo with my family. This Place/Hotel is really worth visiting along with the motor vehicle museum just besides it. We loved this trip very much, Pohon Inn is a really different altogether from others hotel however we did not have a chance to stay.

We stayed at the hotel because of its convenient location five minutes drive to BNS - Batu Night Spectacular and right next to Secret Zoo. The room was average in size and cleanliness, the shower curtain was dirty. When we wanted to have shower there was no hot water and were told to wait for 15 minutes. The buffet breakfast was poor and far from international standard.

I stayed for a night here in Pohon Inn, thinking it would be easier to go to Jatim Park 2 since the hotel provided us with 2 free pass per room. We booked the hotel and told to check in at 2 pm. We arrived early, around 10 am, and we decided to put our luggage and spend time in Jatim Park 2 until check-in time. We went back to the reception at 2 pm but was told that our room was not ready yet. They needed extra 15 minutes to get the rooms cleaned. After 15 minutes had passed by, our rooms were still not ready and we needed to wait for extra 10 minutes. After a heated argument made by my father and the manager, they were putting our rooms on top of their cleaning list. Finally, we could get into our rooms at 2:50pm. That was my first time being asked to wait 50 minutes to get checked in. That was just unacceptable.
However, once we got to our rooms, we got slightly happier. The rooms were designed nicely with color combination of green and brown. Our view from the balcony was the zoo so we could see animals from our window. We could also hear the sounds made by the animals which was fascinating. The hotel also served their guests with breakfast, lunch, and dinner so we didn't have to worry about looking for places to eat.
Aside from check-in process, we had a lovely time in Pohon Inn.

This hotel has very poor facilities, even worse than Fave hotels. First, the bathroom and the toilet is merely separated by a curtain. Second, the washbasin does not have hot water. Third, there is no additional door lock from inside. Fourth, there is no swimming pool. Five, they play music in the corridor the whole night.
It is the most overpriced hotel I've ever been

The hotel public areas and rooms are tastefully decorated. The beds and room amenities are so-so but if you put price into consideration, it’s a good deal. Lots of food and drinks outlets around the hotel so you have plenty of options if you decide to book rooms only.

Pohon Inn in Batu is a hotel, not a bed and breakfast, next to Jatim Park 2. We booked a room here hoping it would be easy to go to and from the park and assumed that it would be a child friendly hotel for our 5-year-old son. Our room with a king size bed had no pull out bed for our son like many hotels worldwide that are located near family attractions. As a matter of fact they charge extra for a 3rd pillow and towel for the room. The extra fee amounts to about 10-15% of the total room fee. If you have more than 2 people bring your own pillows and towels.

Wifi is only in the front lobby area of the hotel and there is no Internet option in the rooms.

The hotel construction is cheap local standard. Cheap tile in the rooms the door lock on our patio door did not work. The glass to the patio may look nice but it lets in every sound from outside. You can hear people talking below the room. The patio is very large and has a nice view but lacks any furniture to make it an enjoyable space. There are no door closers on the door so it is easy to leave a door open when you exit the room. My wife borrowed a hair dryer from the hotel as soon as she started it the fuse in the room blew. In order to use the hairdryer we had to turn off all other electric in the room. The room had lots of dust under the bed and there was water left in the coffee tea warmer when we arrived. There were mothballs in the corners of the bathroom, which would be unsafe for young children.

The dinning room food taste is terrible. They have a small menu with local items and they cannot even do that well. Service is slow during one meal we had to get up and walk over to the 2 or 3 employees standing by the register and ask for things. During the breakfast buffet about 1 out of 3 plate did not have dirt on them when you went to pick them up. The tea taste like coffee my guess is they use the same pot for coffee before they made tea. I did not see any breakfast items like cereal for children. It is sad that they cannot even provide a decent breakfast before a day at the park. If you choose to stay at this hotel I would plan to go elsewhere for your meals or eat snacks and food in the Zoo.

This hotel is definitely set up for local guests and not international travelers as there is very little or any printed material in English. The advantage of being close to the park is lost because you will want to leave the property for decent food. Batu is a pretty small town and it is quick to get around. I would pick a better property to stay and just drive around to the many local attractions.

We stayed in Pohon Inn Hotel for 3 days (16-18 Nov 2014).When we arrived around 11 a.m., I saw my name had been attached with the room key card, meaning they had already prepared my visit that made check in and check out really really fast! (around 5 min only). However they only let us into the room at 2pm. So we put our luggage there and went to Eco Park first. Our room was on the fifth floor and the view from our balcony was just breathtaking.Mountain and zoo could be clearly seen from our room. We could hear various animals sound even during the night (that made my sleep wasn't so well :p). The room has standard toiletries, coffee maker, mini refrigerator and air conditioner. Hot water runs well but only for the shower and not for the tap in the sink. Air conditioner works well too, though we don't really need it because the weather is already cool. The bed is a bit hard, I think they should provide better quality matress for guests. There is a small tiger patterned sofa in the bedroom. Our room has zebra pattern wallpaper and there's a big bear photo next to the bed. They are trying really hard to make us feel like we're in the middle of a safari :D

There are 3 glass wall rooms (cages) on 1 side of the dining room, so we can see leopards and cheetahs (the other cage looks empty, never see anything inside it for 3 days)walking around while we're eating. Breakfast is quite various with very standard taste. The staffs are very friendly and polite. What I enjoy the most about this hotel is the location, it is located exactly between the zoo and the animals museum. Very close to the Eco Park and about 1km away from the Batu Night Spectacular (BNS).

We landed in Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport in Malang. We took airport taxi from Malang to Batu with the price of apprx. IDR 120.000 -150.000/taxi/trip to Batu. The price is for 1 taxi (Toyota avanza) which is 7 seaters but if you need more space for your luggages you need to inform before you order it from the taxi counter. It is a fixed price , no other argo taxi from the airport.
