We stayed at Rafiki Safari in March for three days during our children’s Spring Break. It was the most incredible experience. As soon as you arrive, they help you with your bags and immediately give you a refreshing drink which was delicious! Afterwards, they show you to your tent which has all the modern amenities you could imagine, minus air conditioning. The tents come with an overhead fan and a floor fan so all night long, you have a nice breeze. It was pleasantly cool in the tent at night. There’s also a huge private bathroom attached to your tent with a big shower and places to hang up your clothing. We chose the package that included the activities, which was the best decision! We did whitewater rafting the first day and the waterfall hike the second day. I would recommend the rafting for any age but the waterfall hike was much more strenuous than I expected. We walked 4.5 miles up the mountain and were rewarded with an incredible view! Our family (ages 41, 40, 13, 11) did fine with the hike but I imagine it may be hard for some. Definitely wear good shoes for the hike but also bring water-shoes for the waterfall. We also added a night hike and learned so much about the local plants and saw many nocturnal animals like skunks, scorpions, frogs, snakes, etc. The guides for all the tours are so amazing and knowledgable. Also, each tour comes with lunch and both were excellent! You typically return around 1-2pm from your excursions and you have the remainder of the day to hang out in the lodge or by the pool. The bartender is great and the drinks are innovative and so good! If you are brave, try the slide at the pool. It's thrilling and fast. We all enjoyed it very much! The food is awesome! Every morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast. There was a menu you could choose from which included, eggs, pancakes, french toast, plantains, rice/beans. For dinner, you can choose from 3 options and there's also a kids menu item. Dinner is by candlelight and the ambiance is perfection! All in all, our stay at Rafiki Safari was everything I hoped it would be. The owners are on-site a lot of the time and will interact with the guests and give recommendations and information. They are two of the nicest people and you can tell they truly love what they do. Book your vacation at Rafiki - you will not regret it! Rafiki, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

The tents are comfortable and the bathrooms lovely with nice hot showers. Hardly camping even though in a tent! The staff was just lovely and so helpful. I traveled solo and they provided 3 personalized guided tours. The guides were knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful, and just plain pleasant to spend time with! I highly recommend the night hike, waterfall hike, and the white water rafting. The food was incredible and the other guests were clearly enjoying their time as much as I did. I wish I had more time there and I look forward to returning!

Interesting accommodations in platform-mounted safari tents, platform extends for table and 2 rocking chairs. Hot tub and water slide. Optional activities (not included) include birding tour, nature walk with guide or night walk or 6-hour waterfall hike also with guides, or gentle whitewater rafting or horseback riding. Though it’s good for birders, I thought‘safari’ would mean lots of animals, but they generally don’t see monkeys, sloths, or other mammals, except for wild pigs. I didn’t find the service that great. The owner is good but reception and others working there seemed bored with their jobs and with travellers, not that friendly or enthusiastic about anything. Quite different than my experiences elsewhere in Costa Rica.

We stayed for two nights at the lodge and loved th experience. Soon after our arrival, Loki (not sure of the spelling) who co-owns and runs the lodge gave us an introduction to ots origins and as well as the ongoing efforts to create a sustainable economy while protecting the environment. The original economic activities of forestry and cattle ranching are now gone, and people need to live. He is also part if an effort to create a biosphere that would help increase the tapir population. The lodge is very comfortable, the food is good and the staff is very friendly. All of this in the middle of a well-preserved rain forest. Several activities including white water rafting, horse riding and night walks in the forest, are available. Rafiki has a symbiotic relationship with the village of Santo Domingo from which it employs several of its staff and guides and sources some of its food supplies. Loved it. Go there if you can. The night walk was excellent!

Rafiki Lodge is worth way more than 5 stars! It is amazing here! Everyone there is so hard-working and incredible. They all took care of my family and me. I felt safe the entire time and did all my excursions through them. All the excursions we did there were unbelievable. We not only did their white-water rafting tour but also went on a long beautiful hike through the rainforest to a waterfall, went horseback riding, went on a night tour in the forest, and kayaked through mangroves to their other location on the beach. I'm probably forgetting some things we did when writing this because there is so much! At the actual lodge, there is a gorgeous view of the jungle. Breathtaking! When you aren't soaking in the view, there is a crazy fast and fun slide to go down. Everything about this place is a paradise. Couldn't recommend enough! The staff is great! They're such a big reason why Rafiki Lodge is the place to be. Kenneth and Randol are such amazing guides! They seem to know everything about the surrounding area and make your visit there magical! From everywhere I've been this vacation has been my favorite! I don't think anything will ever beat this trip! (Even though it says 2023, I went to Rafiki Safari Lodge in May 2021)

we visited costa rica for a week and planned many excursions but the rafting trip through Rafiki was by far the BEST of our trip! Kenneth, our guide, took us on a short walk through the forest to point out various plants, herbs, and animals. it was fascinating! the rest of the staff was professional, communicative, and FUN...just so pleasant and enjoyable. after the rafting portion we ate lunch at the hotel. my son said it is the best chicken he has ever had! everything about our experience was top notch. we would like to come back and stay at the hotel but even if you just make the trip for the day, it is well worth it. highly recommend!

We had the best stay here. The accommodations are yurt-like with amazing views of the forest. Our favorite part of the trip were the guides, all from the local village, they had such great knowledge of the surrounding environment and it was clear they enjoyed sharing it. Highly recommend the waterfall hike and rafting. June was a great time to go - not too much rain and less tourists.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had the best experience! We went rafting with Kenneth and Alan who were both amazing people. Kenneth shared some great knowledge with us about the environment surrounding us and we learned so much about the native plants and animals! He also brought us up to a gorgeous waterfall where he cut fresh fruit for us and brought homemade snickerdoodles. We really really enjoyed spending the day with him as he had so much insight to share! We also went on a night hike with Randall where we saw so many frogs, spiders, scorpions, snakes, etc. Randall took great pictures on my phone of the animals and was also very knowledgeable about them. All the staff was really nice and we loved the food! Everyone spoke great English and lived in the local community about 10 minutes from the lodge. They had the best plantains of anywhere in Costa Rica and they made delicious fresh juice daily. We especially loved the hot tub hanging from the side of the lodge with a gorgeous view overseeing the property. The tents do an amazing job at keeping bugs out! If you are looking for a secluded, relaxing getaway Rafiki is perfect for you! You will see so many plants and wildlife like lizards, birds, and frogs on the property! Not to mention they have this yummy apple tree where you can pick them fresh. We loved it here!!! Thank you everyone at Rafiki for being so great!
