The Hotel de la Cite is a lovely property in the wonderful medieval city of Carcassone. My partner and I spent 3 nights there to celebrate his birthday and we had hired a car as we flew into Toulouse which is about an hour away. The hotel car park is outside the city walls, only a few hundred metres or so but the hotel has a car to take you to the hotel. We had a warm reception when we checked in, my only slight niggle was the plastic cup the welcome drink was served in, not really in keeping with a luxury hotel. Our room was fairly spacious with a huge comfortable bed and a Juliet balcony with fantastic views overlooking the ramparts and gardens. The bathroom was well appointed with a separate loo and lovely full size Clarins toiletries. Some of the furniture did look a little tired and the room could have done with a full sized mirror but the views did make up for this. The porter hadn't been on hand when we checked in so we had to carry our bags to the room which didn't bother us at all. However a few minutes after we got to the room he knocked on the door to apologise for not being around to help which I thought was a lovely gesture. Another lovely surprise was the bottle of champagne in the room on my partner's birthday.
Breakfast in the morning was a decent buffet selection and the lady who ran the breakfast service was lovely, remembering how we took our coffee each day. We had dinner in the restaurant which was a delicious tasting menu. Again the service was friendly and informative and they had a little birthday dessert at the end for us too.
My only real negative about our stay was the service or lack of, from the staff in the library bar. On the first night we ordered a couple of cocktails, but once they were brought the table the staff seemed to disappear to have a chat in a little room by the bar leaving the bar pretty much unattended. A little later we managed to grab the attention of the bar man and ordered a couple more drinks and a bottle of water. He brought the latter without a glass and a few minutes later just presented us with the bill which we hadn't asked for. Admittedly it was just before midnight but if the bar was closing anyone with a decent level of customer service would have explained the situation and checked if anything else was required not just put the bill on the table. Maybe he didn't realise we were staying at the hotel, not that that should have made a difference. Service on the next two nights was only slightly better.
On a plus, Celine on reception/concierge was brilliant, answering pre arrival questions promptly and recommending restaurants. A walking tour of the city arranged by Celine was great, can highly recommend our guide Mme Grillon, who was very informative and very enthusiastic!
One last note was that we went mid Feb and not all restaurants were open, but there were enough to choose from, and it was great to have the feeling of having the place to yourself without the summer crowds. All in all a lovely stay, the bar staff just need to step up to the same level as their colleagues.

We booked a night here on our journey south, but sadly it was only one night - we would have loved to have spent more time at this lovely hotel and in this beautiful walled town. The situation couldn't have been better; right inside the walls with a short walk to the dedicated hotel car park. Amazing.

We loved everything about the hotel - it was full of character, had a lovely old fashioned quality feel about it. Our room was extremely comfortable with a large bathroom with separate large bath and walk in shower.

We stayed on Easter Monday and had booked the restaurant in advance not realising there was only a special Easter dinner menu available. So our dinner budget quickly went out of the window but it was worth every euro! The food was absolutely delicious served with excellent wines pared with each course. A lovely experience to remember served by enthusiastic and superbly trained approachable staff.

Although chilly my wife used the outside attractive swimming pool situated in the most lovely grounds. Sadly it was just a bit too chilly to enjoy a pre dinner aperitif on the terrace but the cosy bar with its comfortable leather arm chairs certainly made up for it!

A lovely hotel; in our view they have everything just right, from the welcoming informal reception area to a lovely breakfast. Looking forward to going back hopefully.

We visited Carcassonne for a long weekend and decided to book in to
Hotel de la Cite Carcassonne-MGallery as it was inside the Cite walls and looked very old and charming.
We were not disappointed. We were allocated room 207 which sits directly over the front entrance of the hotel. We had a fabulous view of the Basilica and the streets directly outside the hotel. All the windows opened fully which made it a great place to people watch first thing in the morning.
The room itself was a decent size. It had a separate bathroom with a bath and over the top shower which was stocked with Clarins toiletries and also a separate toilet. The bed was huge and very comfortable as were the pillows.
There was a mini bar fridge which was replenished each day with water.

The hotel is obviously very old. We had a smooth check in and the receptionist gave us a brief tour of the hotel and its history.

In the hotel grounds, there is a lovely swimming pool, outside bar, outside seating and a great view of the ramparts and Cite walls.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel once during our stay. It was a nice mix of hot and cold buffet and plenty to choose from.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a slight mix up on departure as we had asked reception to book us a taxi to take us to the airport. We were advised that as the airport is small, you only need to be there an hour before departure and to also allow 30 minutes to get to the airport and we were told a driver would collect us and drive us to the hotel car park where the taxi would collect us.
It appeared the driver had not been told to come and collect us so we were late getting to the hotel car park. But, the taxi was also late arriving.
This didn't seem to cause to much of a problem though as we still arrived at the airport 1 hour before departure and getting through the airport was very quick.

All in all, a great stay and one of the most amazing places I've ever visited and I'd certainly recommend staying here!

First of all the hotel itself is lovely, and in a beautiful setting. Our welcome was fantastic, with a tour of the property from the chief Porter. It all went downhill from there. The room was in decent shape, but the air conditioning did not cool the room or remove humidity. This was not unique to our room, last night we sat in the library and it was sweltering. The air was on, it just doesn't work well. Service was lackluster, and made you feel like a second class citizen in a first class setting. Some examples: the first night we went for a drink on the terrasse and the waiter forgot our order, just completely skipped it. There's a free city tour included with your stay, except no one bothered to tell us about it until we asked. Finally, this morning, I called down for towels and was hung up on once, called a second time and was told "Ok" (no apology or recognition of hanging up on me the first time) and the towels never arrived. In the end, unless your name is Matt Damon, be prepared to be treated as "not good enough". I give it two stars for the amazing setting, but the experience was disappointing considering this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel and is incredibly expensive. We had better service at a 10 room hotel in Beaune, than here. If I came to Carcassonne again, I would save my money and stay in a gîte or a more reasonable hotel.

This was a major problem about large sums of money

When we arrived, I was asked to sign 900€ away on my card - I assume that they thought I would run off without paying. I pointed out that I had paid in full for room and breakfast for our two nights, and that I was unlikely to run up 900€ for food and drink. I refused to sign, and with very bad grace the receptionist reduced it to 200€

When I checked out they wanted to charge me 400€ for all sorts of things that either we had never had, or were included in our room rate. It took reception FOUR bills to get the correct charge down to about 100€

The inept receptionists did not apologize, but each time I pointed out errors , just printed out another bill

We also had problems with service on the Terrace - where I ordered tapas and a bottle of wine - the waiter forgot the tapas.

There is little point in the manager who replies to reviews here saying that such problems will be discussed with the "team". Such basic errors on billing are beyond redemption !

The hotel management should realise that overcharging is about the worst sin a hotel can commit. I do not think that I would stay there again

We stayed here one night and were able to book last minute. We did not enjoy the restaurant because it was sold out but the ambiance looked very enjoyable. The room had a king bed that was very very comfortable. The street noise did not carry in the room so we were able to get a restful sleep. There bathroom was large and well equipped. We were able to easily walk the fort/castle and town within an hour. The parking is about 5 minute drive offsite at the base so make sure to input the parking directions first if you are driving and call when you arrive to be transported to the check in. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice happy to interact and help guests. There is an small elevator to get luggage to room but beware that you may need help getting it across stairs as the room floorplans are dispersed.

We stayed for 1 night in room 214, which had a lovely terrace and fabulous view. The room was very comfortable, but I did think a little small, never the less absolutely beautiful. The bed was incredibly comfortable and huge with great bedding.
The tea tray was very welcome, but the tiny pots of UHT milk a disappointment, surely in a 5 star hotel, a jug of fresh milk in the fridge, would be better, and a pod coffee maker would have been lovely.
The bathroom was also lovely, but the shower above the bath was extremely difficult to get in as the sides of the bath were really high. I also found that the room was very hot when we got there, and took all afternoon to cool down with the doors open, although I do hate artificial heat.
I could not find any English channels on the tv.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the transfer from the car park via electric car was efficient and fast.

The rooms were quiet and the views are unbelievable. The hotel is situated within the fortress overlooking he city. The staff were very attentive and responded immediately to every request, eg laundry on a Saturday night, picking up/delivering our luggage and extra towels. The bar was comfortable and the restaurant fabulous. The breakfast was average. They have parking a 5 minute walk from the hotel into the fortress.

We loved our brief stay at the Hotel de la Cite. This is a charming property within the walled city of Carcassonne and our room had the best view of the ramparts and over the countryside below. Our interactions with the staff were very good. Gerome went out on a search mission to find us parked at the wrong parking lot and helped us with our introduction to the hotel, not to mention all the bags. From that point on, we had nothing but great experiences at the hotel. We will be back and hopefully soon!

We travelled from the South of France to Bordeaux, this hotel was a midway stop over.
The hotel did not disappoint.
The location is ideally located in the heart of Carcassonne castle walls with immediate access to restaurants and shops.
The gardens are beautiful, with a nice bar serving exceptional cocktails, they had pianist and DJ for late afternoon evening entertainment.
There’s an outdoor pool, small but great for a cool down after sightseeing.
We had a junior site with views of the city and access to a private garden. The room itself was quite small, but extremely comfortable and clean, with a large a-joining bathroom.
The breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice and fresh options.
The staff were super friendly and great concierge service.
We parked in the hotel car park (26 Euro a night), which is a short walk from the hotel. From the car park I would recommend taking a lift to the hotel with your luggage, the drive in a small Renault into the castle walls was an experience in itself. The drivers provide some history too.
If you have a short timeframe then this hotel is perfect.
