We spent three nights at Blue Spruce Resort and couldn’t have asked for a better family experience. The cabin was incredibly clean and cozy, with a perfect fireplace to warm up during the chilly September evenings. After a day of hiking the nearby trails, relaxing in the jacuzzi tub was just what we needed! The resort also provided satellite TV and Wi-Fi, which kept the kids entertained in the evenings.

The grounds were beautifully maintained, with vibrant landscaping and a well-groomed beach where the kids had a blast swimming. They especially loved the water trampoline and floating mat, which kept them entertained for hours. We also took advantage of the free canoe rental, paddling across the scenic lake and stopping to explore a few islands along the way.

In the evenings, we enjoyed s’mores by one of their many outdoor fire pits, which were stocked with everything we needed to get the fire going. It was a perfect way to wind down and make some lasting family memories under the stars.

One of the highlights was the pontoon boat tour offered by the owners, who were incredibly kind and welcoming. We got a close-up view of Ragged Falls, which was breathtaking. The owners made the trip even more special with their personal touch and local insights.

We also played tennis and pickleball, and the kids enjoyed the nearby park. The resort has a fun games room with foosball and a pool table, which gave us some quality family time.

Blue Spruce Resort provided a wonderful blend of outdoor adventure, family activities, and relaxation. We can’t wait to return!

Love from the Whatmore family

Got hooked on Blue Spruce a few years ago and just took my Mom for our 5th trip together. Awesome quick getaway from Toronto and Cheryl and team are amazing! Beyond all the great close-by activity options, I’ve stayed at cottage resorts everywhere and can say this place is run extremely well down to the smallest details. Highly endorse and will be back again soon!

I just returned from spending five nights at Blue Spruce Resort and I highly recommend the experience. This is my second time there and have already made another reservation for a return next year! The site is beautifully maintained and conveniently situated close to Algonquin Park and Huntsville. The staff are friendly, attentive and exceptionally helpful. The lovely lady at the front desk went out of her way to 'rescue' me by locating and supplying glue to salvage my hiking boot for my stay. It is very clear why most visitors return year after year. This resort is a gem!

Honestly I don’t think the new owners and on site managers care at all about keeping long term guests. We have booked a fall vacation there every year for decades. Last year when we checked out we automatically rolled over our annual booking to this fall as usual, there were some issues with double booking that were sorted, and we received confirmation including the cost. Last month we received another confirmation at SIGNIFICANTLY higher rates. When I asked about it by email, a message was passed on to me from the manager saying that since we hadn’t put the required deposit down our quoted rates wouldn’t be honoured. NO ONE HAD TOLD US a that we needed to increase the deposit. I eventually spoke with the corporate owner who lowered the rate slightly, and he didn’t seem to understand that I was more upset about the way we were being treated than about the money. He explained about the new deposit and cancellation policy which is a nightmare to figure out, as noted by the previous poster. I was in tears when I cancelled - it was so sad that years of wonderful memories had to end on a sour note.

We have been staying at Blue Spruce on and off for over thirty years. The former owners, the Hayden’s were lovely hosts and gave the place a real family feel. This summer we enjoyed two weeks in one of their cottages. We really like this place. Our children liked it and now our grandchildren love this place too. It is a great place for families. The rooms are very clean. There are two beaches (groomed daily) which means lots of room for guests. It is on the doorstep of Algonquin Park, so it is quite easy to do some hiking or exploring in the park and still have time to enjoy the resort and lake.

Blue Spruce has new owners so there has been a bit of a transition. We have been pleased with the new managers, Paul and Cheryl, and staff, who are very friendly, helpful and more than hospitable. The first week we had a problem with the BBQ, and Paul replaced it right away. We have also welcomed some of the changes like the improved WiFi. It works much better. Previously you had to rent non-motorized equipment like canoes, paddle boards and the like on an hourly basis. Now these are of free of charge. It makes access much easier. Our family has found this to be a great place. So much so, we have already booked for two weeks next year.

Blue Spruce Resort was exactly what I needed during my holiday in Ontario!
The hosts are truly lovely, the grounds are exceptionally well cared for and the cottage I stayed in was very clean and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the jacuzzi tub after languid long days of canoeing and swimming. One day a nice fellow, Aaron, carried my canoe down the hill and across the road to the lake for me. So helpful!

Conveniently located on Route 60, it is easy to dash off to any number of local points of interest. Algonquin Outfitters is within walking distance across the road and these folks are especially helpful in all things paddle sports and hiking. Ask for Annie, a local hiking and canoe guide extraordinaire.

Highly recommended!

The owners and staff of the Blue Spruce Resort are very accommodating, considerate and provide a beautiful experience, located on the gorgeous Oxtongue lake. Lots of activities to keep the whole family busy.
Similar to the previous owners, Scott and Linda Hayden.

Driving into this resort you can immediately see the PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP. And once you are greeted by staff this just adds to the whole experience that you will enjoy.
Reasonable rates for a variety of accommodations and amenities which will keep everyone happy and busy. for your stay.
A lovely location with a small beach and boat launch area on the Oxtongue Lake Narrows.
This resort offers you comparable rates which a dismal and run-down place across the water is charging and has nothing to offer.

This place is well located close to Algonquin Park with good water toys and a nice beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cottage which was large and well laid out however was very dated and needed a deep clean. The furniture smelled and the beds were lumpy. The wifi was poor and the kitchen utensils were dull and worn out. The towels provided were tiny. I would not stay here again.

Dear love2travel4242,

Please be assured that your comments have been taken very seriously and we are following up on each point of improvement.
It is disappointing that you did not reach out to us during your stay so we might have worked towards fixing the deficiencies you encountered. We always have staff on site and we provide contact phone numbers should you need assistance at any hour of day.

On the other hand, we are glad that you've enjoyed our closeness to Algonquin Park, wide array of good water toys, 2 sandy beaches, the large well laid out cottage and our attentive hard-working staff who do their utmost and go the extra mile to pamper our valued guest.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope to have you return to Blue Spruce Resort for another stay with us.
 Regards

 Scott and Lynda Hayden

This resort is located in a lovely, picturesque part of Ontario.
The suite we stayed in was immaculate and well equipped with everything we needed. There are many activities to take part in while staying there, from tobogganing, skating and ice fishing on the lake to hiking and snowmobiling on the trails. The scenery is magnificent!
Our hosts were nothing short of awesome. They truly care about the wellbeing of their guests, and it shows from the time you make your reservation until checkout. We can’t wait to go back during the summer to enjoy that season’s activities.

Hi ... Further to MsKoka's answer, yes the Lakeside Inn is the only thing within a 5 minute walk. If you don't mind driving, there's Huntsville 30 minutes away or Dorset (south of Dwight, down Highway 35) about 20-25 minutes away : look for the Trading Bay restaurant by the Narrows bridge in Dorset. In Dwight itself (10 or so minutes' drive) there is The Cookhouse and the Spring Lake Resort. Of these, we've only eaten at the Trading Bay though, and in various spots in Huntsville. Whatever you choose to do, have a very good trip!

Hello. I have never been to Blue Spruce in the winter. I am a summer guest only. The best person to answer your question would be Scott Hayden the owner of Blue Spruce. I can tell you though, that Scott runs a fabulous resort, and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.
