Cleopatras Farmhouse is set in stunning scenery at the foothills of the Drakensburg but the surrounding planting now obscures much of the views lending the whole place a rather claustrophobic and gloomy feel. The rooms are a mixture of half a dozen stable type accommodation and several suites in what was the old farmhouse. We stayed in one of these...

restuarant review: a very friendly welcome n short history/intro about cleopatra mountain farmhouse while given a walk through. Yes the decor is out dated, you can still give the place the same quaint look with a fresher update but nonetheless it was tranquil and soon had a settling coziness to it. What great service.. efficient & friendly yet professional. Most...

It's clear Cleopatra HAD a reputation and its that reputation that brought us here Despite the best efforts of the staff it's clear to me this restaurant has lost its way A plethora of awards adorn the entrance to the dining room but none more recent that 2006 Richard Pointon once had a passion for what he created here and...

After some time on unmade gravel roads we began to doubt the wisdom of staying at the lodge. However, immediately on arrival, we were met by Amen who gave us chilled home made lemonade. Our room was large with a private glass covered patio from which we viewed the Drakensberg Mountains. Gusts were invited to meet for pre dinner drinks...

Great stay here. The dining and homely sitting rooms are set on the lake with views over the hills. Fabulous hiking on Highmoor just up the road (sadly it was foggy) when we were there. Massive 7 course dinners everynight which were rather too much for us, however you don't have to eat it all! Great cellar and staff really...

A fabulous drive with beautiful scenery we swept into Cleopatra's Mountain Farmhouse and were warmly greeted on arrival with freshly made lemonade, Our charming room in the herb garden was a dream, sure it's old fashioned and quirky and chintzy and all the adjectives you can read in the other reviews, but it was comfortable and fun. The weather is...

We went to Cleopatra on the advice of our travel agent who had visited previously. We got a wonderful reception and we're shown to room 7. Massive amounts of space and all the comforts one could ask for. I have read a number of reviews on the food which seemed varied. Having eaten at a number of Michelin starred restaurants...

Be prepared for a long drive. We came straight from Jo'burg airport and it took over 5 hours. If you're coming from Durban, it'll probably be 4 hours. We were greeted by Amen with cool towels and chilled homemade lemonade (just what we needed). This is our 3rd visit to CMF. We enjoy it as you can lose yourself for...

Arrived in time for a seven course dinner overlooking a moonlit lake. The introductory chat by visionary chef Richard Poynton was diverting as ever, although his mouthwatering descriptions of the forthcoming meal did nothing to stop our stomachs from grumbling impatiently. This is the sort of place you should only visit for a couple of nights or you may need...

Loverly place, not too hot, in the mountains, more like Scotland but for the apes running off... lots of birds... Individual rooms in old stable blocks... very cosy... Great reception... Fantastic food... Good wine cellar... I definitely recommend the place...
