We stayed here a couple of nights during our trip to Kerala and it was a unique experience. You are effectively staying in the middle of a wild life reserve and the site is regularly visited by leopards and elephants among other creatures. For this reason you have to be escorted by rangers to and from your living quarters to...

We stayed here one night on our Indian cycling tour but really should have stayed for two nights. The bungalow style rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, there's a great bar and the food in the restaurant was good and tasty. The staff were helpful and friendly but the real star is the retreat itself and its owner/operators. This...

Wow this is what the jungle is all about. The pure rustic feel of being in the middle of the jungle and having that on your doorstep every morning when you wake is just priceless. The staff look after you from the moment you arrive and take safety very seriously as the complex is open to all the wildlife, and...

fantastic location. No need to go out for safaris. The wildlife comes knocking at your door! Starting from the owners to the manager and staff...a very professional and caring attitude. Excellent service and fantastic value for money (rents, safaris, food etc). Extremely impressed with the good work you guys are doing. Keep it up. Cheers!

First the good part - The swimming pool, its location and the view surrounding the pool. Herds of deer you get to watch within the resort itself in morning and evenings. Now the unsatisfactory part - Well, we were 2 couples with 1 kid each. The resort has restrictions of not roaming freely/alone post 5:30 pm..but donno if this is...

We stayed 2 nights in one of the tree houses. Relatively expensive, but high up in tree and great views. Looks a lot better than some other tree houses we saw on other resorts nearby. Also you get a cooling breeze. Early one morning an elephant came close, that was special. We were in tree house 2. Clean room with...

While I was underwhelmed with the safari aspect of this place I loved the pool and the setting in general. There are options for private accom but a little pricey on checking. All in all very relaxing and the food was great too.

A fantastic wild life resort, run by an extremely warm staff. The rooms are so very cozy, and the service and food great. The pool, which also doubles up as a watering hole for wild animals is simply out of this world. A great experience all in all. Thank you Chandan of Indian Expeditions for pointing us out to this...

The Jungle Retreat – is exactly what it says! Comfortable lodges in elephant country! We received a wonderfully warm welcome from the owner of the hotel and the evening talk and powerpoint about the retreat and the local wild life was absolutely fascinating and very informative. Whilst staying at Jungle Retreat we had an evening safari further into the animal...

The resort itself is quite nice, but the location detracts from the value. JR Masinagudi is in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on the fringes of Bandipur Park. JR offers evening and early morning safari tours, but the wildlife is pretty sparse in the area (your chances of actually seeing a Tiger is about 0.05%). If you want to enjoy a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Jungle Retreat is a family-run resort, that offers a range of country-style cottages, that suit different budgets, while catering to a similar mindset. Insulated within 35 Acres of carefully cultivated and nurtured biodiversity, Jungle Retreat is a haven for wildlife and has come a long way since its beginnings in 1996 when it was barren farmland. Being family-run, service is personalised, informal yet professional. Jungle Retreat does not take Corporate bookings or all male groups, so you can be assured of an ambiance that does not remind you of work and appeals even to the single female traveller. Food is laid out in buffet-style. Menus are set twice a day after taking into consideration guest preferences and allergies. Activities like safaris and walks may be customised with the in-house activities in-charge and are organised within the parameters stipulated by the Forest Department and government agencies. Activities are subject to availability and weather conditions. Jungle Retreat has house pets (cats and dogs) that have always been with the family. Having encouraged wildlife on the campus, house-rules are to be adhered to for the safety of our guests. ... more   less
