What happened to this place?? Hotel Sugar Beach was one of our favorite little hotels to visit a couple yrs ago. Now - the facilities are downtrodden, the smell of sewage permeates the grounds on & off through the day, as does a morning whiff of skunk smells, locals show up in huge groups (literally busloads) - armed with tables...

Playa Pan de Azúcar, where we are located, does become a popular vacation spot during Peak Season - especially during New Year’s celebrations. According to Costa Rican laws, beaches are public and locals are allowed to enjoy the public areas - along with their colorful traditions and folklore. We apologize if you felt the facilities to be overcrowded. Both you...

We decided on this hotel based on the pictures and proximity to a relative secluded beach. Our ocean view room was interrupted by multiple trees so our view is only a sliver of the ocean and you have to sit in a certain chair in order to see it. There was one room that was air conditioned and one room...

Greetings! The rooms you are describing are the Master Suites in front of the pool and the ocean. As you clearly describe them, these rooms are advertised as partial ocean views, since we want to protect that area and the trees in our tropical dry forest. We offer A/C units in every bedroom, but we do not offer A/C units...

We stayed here after a few nights in nearby Bahia del Sol, and found it to be a nice place off the beaten trail with a nice pool and decent, though rocky beach. It is near to some other amazing beaches like Danta etc. Service was very friendly across the board. However, comparing to nearby Bahia del Sol, they could...

Thanks for the review and thanks for appreciating our friendly service! I'm so sorry to hear that we had a maintenance issue with your TV during our stay. All of our rooms do have flat screen TV's and DVD player. In terms of our amenities, we are conservative with the amount of bottles and packages we put in our rooms....

This place was unexpectedly amazing. They don't tell you at check-in, but this beach is perfect for boogie boarding and they have snorkels and boogie boards at reception that guests can use free of charge. It's like being on a private beach with a really beautiful view.

Unexpectedly amazing is a great compliment! Thanks for the heads up about boogie boarding. Surfing, boogie boarding, and swimming spots are personal preferences, but we will make sure we'll let people know about the possibility of boogie boarding right here at Sugar Beach. You rating us 'Best hotel in our 9-night stay in Costa Rica' definitely tells us you had...

Hotel Sugar Beach was exactly the quiet getaway my wife and I were looking for! It is the only hotel on this beach. About an hour from the airport in Liberia and not too difficult to find, tho we had a GPS. It is a long haul to San Jose (4+ hours). While the road we took was gravel for...

It makes us proud to hear that our strong points are trending! We love that you appreciate our clean rooms, our friendly staff, the beauty of the property, and the - as you call them - 'melt in your mouth' specials at the restaurant. We appreciated your review of the property and the tips for future guests. Please send us...

I recently went on an Ananda yoga retreat at Sugar Beach. It is a beautiful, quiet resort on a gorgeous cove. All the people who worked there were exceptionally helpful and pleasant. The rooms were very clean and inviting, and the grounds were amazing ~ beautifully landscaped and filled with the wonder of the natural habitat ~ birds, monkeys, iguanas...

We booked this hotel online based on location. Sadly the drive to it is very convoluted and it was the end of a very long day, but we were very happy when we arrived! The list of perks that was rhymed off to us when we arrived are too numerous to name, and we didn't use a lot of them,...

We live in a world of billions. Travelers cross paths with others many times a day, most often without notice, comment or really much impact. The Hotel Sugar Beach on Playa Pan de Azucar, near Potrero, Costa Rica, is remarkable, at an essentially an private beach, Howler monkeys in the trees, iguanas scrabbling in rain gutters like Chihuahuas skittering across...

Just spent 7 days at the Hotel Sugar Beach. Great private feel, but still close enough to Portrero, Brasilito, Flamingo and others. We rented the beach house. Perfect for our large family group. We ended our 10 night Costa Rican trip with a 3 night stay at Hotel Sugar Beach. After being in a house on a huge flat beach, this was a total change in atmosphere.
