Our family was driving north to Peggy's Cove and looking for a place to spend the night before getting too close to Halifax. We noticed a vacancy sign her so stopped in to have a look. The young woman working reception was so nice and very helpful. She indicated there was a cabin or a room available. She took us to have a look at both. The cabin suited our needs best. It was very clean and had all the amenities needed. Just wish we were there for more than 1 night. Best part is that it is a 5 minute drive to Pegg's Cove. As a family we went back to see sunset and then in the morning while everyone else was sleeping I was able to go back for sunrise. It was spectacular. I would highly recommend staying here be it for one night or several.

We stopped here ready to settle in after a long day of city driving and sight seeing. We were in room 9 which is wonderfully decorated and had the feel of a b&b room more than a room at an inn. This is more like a motel setting with several cottages in the back of the property along with the main building/rooms closer to the roadside. The room was clean and very nicely decorated and painted, however had a slightly musty smell which we assume was due to it being closed up and across the road from the water front and salty air. Breakfast was adequate and there was a lot to chose from. In the morning we could hear quite a bit of movement in the adjoining room which may have been the kitchenette/office area or linen closet/supply room. All in all, this is a nice place to stay.

My wife and I were unsure where to stay the night after visiting Peggy's Cove but found the Harbour View and really enjoyed it. The room was wonderful, all redone and modern. Very comfortable, the only issue was that we could hear the people in the room below us a little too clearly. To be fair we were warned that this could be an issue and choose the room anyway. The breakfast was very nice and the staff were wonderful and very friendly. We would certainly recommend this to our friends travelling in the area.

I will start with the positives. This is a beautiful spot to visit with easy access to Peggy's Cove and surrounding area. Mary's Cove itself is quite lovely. The view from cottages is wonderful. The staff are friendly and courteous. The rooms are clean.

However, these are not cottages as advertised, they are duplex units with shared balconies and little privacy. They offer fire pits and lawn chairs, but you must buy the wood. Six dollars for a small bundle. At the price for the night ($175.00) it should be included. I always feel these things should be built into the price so I do not feel nickel and dimed. Also you had to go to the office to use the free wi-fi. Worked well though.

In general I might not have booked had I known it was a duplex, otherwise nice but a bit pricey.

This is no exaggeration. Advertised as their "deluxe" renovated boathouse cottage, situated at the water's edge with the wharf being the deck off the back of the house, we were astonished when arriving to find the "deck" lopsided and floating in the water beside the house. Doors on both lower and upper level (loft) now open directly into the water. Nice only if you're into fishing from the house! Not only that, this place had a one-station cable TV, crank phone that didn't work, window that opened with the hook on a stick and a disgusting flushless jon - hardly my idea of "modern." This property is the most blatant case of misrepresentation I have ever seen, yet it's advertised all over the internet and the boathouse looks delightful. Peggy's Cove, however, is beautiful and definitely worth the visit. Halifax is only about 40 miles away and there are many other nice communities only a stone's throw away.

Response from JamiesonWestDover, Manager at Harbourview Inn
Responded Jan 30, 2009
This review is misleading on Harbour View Cottages. Harbour View Cottages opened in 2007 and were fully renovated. As you can see from our web site, the boathouse is not part of our accommodations. This review relates to a trip in 2004 - prior to Harbour View Cottages opening. It relates to the previous business - Seaside Cottages and NOT Harbour View. Thanks for your understanding.

My husband and I stayed at Harbour View Cottages & Guestrooms in West Doover, Nova Scotia which is minutes from Peggy's Cove. We stayed in their beautiful, clean nicley decorated deluxe guestroom for 4 nights and wish we could of stayed longer. The rates are very resonable and includes a continental breakfast of homemade breads, scones & tea biscuts. Scrambled eggs, Fresh fruit, cereal and yogerts. Fresh brewed coffee or tea. This is offered to those who stay in one of the guestrooms. There are also cottages with firepits, picnic tables and the coloufull adarandack chairs. The housekeeper was kind enough to show me one of the cottages which is beautiful, modern and clean! We were made to feel very welcome. The freindliest people you would ever want to meet. We LOVED our stay at Harbour View! If we get the chance to go back to Nova Scotia we will definately stay at Harbour View.

Just happened upon the Harbour View. Jeff greeted us warmly and showed us the last room left. He gave us lots of great local info. Made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. We were sad that we only had one night to stay there.

We were recommended to call this place when another B&B was full near Peggy's Cove. I spoke to the owner, and she was so gracious with my 250 questions! (Having never been to Nova Scotia before...)

Gracious hospitality by both employees we met.

Room was well-appointed, with a magnificent bed. A little tight for 3 of us with an air mattress, though would have been quite comfortable with just my husband and me.

The breakfast was delicious and all the baked goods we freshly baked by the owner. If we can make a return trip, we would stay here again!

We arrived in West Dover without a place to stay- wonderful area by the way!- and were told to call the West Dover Harbour View Cottages! Even though they were not officially opening for a few more days they very nicely rented us a lovely lovely room!!! And also left us a nice continental breakfast with coffee.
Nice staff, amazing room- clean and great view! Go here!!!!!

We stayed in room 9 for 5 nights and couldn't be more pleased by our choice. Our room was clean, roomy and comfortable. Every day started with breakfast. It is supposed to be a continental breakfast, but it is not like any continental breakfast I've ever had anywhere else. Things were a bit different each but delicious - especially the homemade orange, peach and mango jam and homemade bread. It also sometimes included an assortment of fresh berries or other fruit, perfectly boiled eggs, cheese, yogurt (greek and regular), deviled eggs, homemade beans, and other home baked goods (wrapped in case you might need it for a snack later). Sometimes we ate inside with other guests and other times we ate at our private table on the porch where we had a beautiful view. Each night ended curled up in a comfy bed with perfect reading lamp. And in between - amazing hiking, kayaking, sightseeing just up the road. I am already planning our next stay in the cottages with my son and his godmother.
