I hate to give poor reviews but my recent stay has not been good. The hotel itself is located in a good location, across the Ximending night market. Rooms are small and not much place to move around. Reception staff attitude leave much to be desired. The hotel placed an unstable wobbly 3 legged ceramic table in a tight spot where you need to walk around it to sit down. I accidentally bumped it and it fell to the carpeted floor (yes carpet!) and broke in half. It was an accident waiting to happen. Staff won't listen to any explanation and have to remind us (and our travel companions) every single day that we have to pay the exorbitant penalty. It ruined an otherwise good stay.

I was there for 2 nights. Next to a night market. Great location for me to buy local goodies to bring home. Famous breakfast and famous beef noodles across the road. Close to MRT station, easy to get Uber too. Bottled drinking water provided. quiet rooms no noise from the night market next door. Small lift, but I am only on second floor so I walk the stairs.

Chose the hotel because of its proximity to ximending, where food is not a problem any time of the day, even late at night. This is important as our father in law is traveling with us and he in his 70s, and there are times when he choose to go back hotel to rest while we proceed with our itinerary. So proximity to eateries is important.

Room Tip: This is Taipei ximending. Don’t include breakfast. There are lots of food outside.

Don’t let the pictures deceive you. The uploaded pictures does not correspond to the actual facility. One word can describe this place “Vintage”. The front desk will try to nickel and dime you even when you have a confirmed reservation through the various sites. Your wallet will get a lot lighter for extra bed, extra person, and extra lighting fixture for your room. The rooms are very dark with limited lighting. The room looks like a 1920 smoking club room, very dimly lite. The limited lighting could be a strategy to hide the vintage decor and old water paper. There is no smoking at the facility, but cigarettes smoke can be smell throughout the floor. The hallways has a rancid stench. The air conditioner works whenever it wants. The temperature control is just a facet. The hallway is colder than the room. You can leave your door open to stay cool. That is, if you do not mind the rancid stench or mosquitoes. The elevator has a 8 person 550 kg limit on. On numerous occasions, two average adults will set off the overweight alarm. The female front desk receptionist is very rude and unprofessional. She would rush guests down to the main lobby with nonstop phone calls for problems she has caused. The beds are extra firm. If you are a side sleeper, you will need extra padding. It feels more like a gymnasium pad than a bed. The pillows get flattened as soon as you lay your head on it.

Good: Clean Rooms Near Ximending Lots of dining options Lots of shopping options Near public transport Bad: No wifi access in room, spent on pocket wifi to have internet access Everything is walking distance from the hotel. Easy to find a breakfast spot just outside. Can book tours also and be picked up at lobby. Short walk to public transport.

This hotel indeed is a gem in Ximen area. The room may be simple but it is clean and very comfortable. Shampoo and bath gel are individually packed and disposable slippers are supplied. The location is great - just across the road (Section 2, Hankou Street) from the hotel you will find a Family Mart convenience store on your left, and not far on your right there is a delicious local breakfast place serving soy milk and youtiau. If you walk further up towards the Ximen MRT station (5mins away) you will find numerous small shops/stalls selling delicious snacks/food and milk tea/healthy drinks along the way. The hotel staff members are warm, super helpful and very knowledgeable. They give their best service and advice and even helped us with the transport options travelling out of Taipei. It is very inconvenient to tell taxi drivers where to go without the addresses in Chinese and they wrote down the Chinese address for us as we only have the English addresses. I would like to thank all the East Dragon Hotel staff for their assistance during our stay there, especially to Miss Bonnie and 郭组长 (Mr. Guo). This hotel is a 3-star hotel, but the customer service is definitely more than 3-stars !

The location of the hotel is convenient as SI Men Ting is just diagonally opposite the hotel. However, don't expect much besides convenience because you need to speak Mandarin to understand what the staff are saying, while they can understand English without any problem.

This is hands down my ultimate favorite vacation ever. Arrived with my 2 sisters in this amazing hotel, the staff are all friendly especially the front office and the concierge. The cafe is just a typical breakfast everyday. Nothing special but the service is really amazing. We will visit again with family for sure. Thank you so much to all the staff for such a wonderful stay. ReinPKitty

I recommend to book Classic Double Room, this room is bigger and been renovated. The hotel is located at the Ximending, so easy to shopping, eating or take a subway. Housekeeping cleans everyday. It would be perfect hotel if they change the door as it is easy to come in with no double lock and I afraid with security during my stay, would recommend you to use a digital lock with double lock for the room doors.

I visited a friend staying at this hotel, and here some of my thoughts They paid big money to stay at a so called suite which at best described as bare and old style. It looked like an old hotel which needed a very much needed refurbishment. The room was not as big as expected either. The room had the strangest configuration though. They had a area which was a step up space for what purpose no one really knows. Their breakfast was limited and was the same each day, bread and some sort of meat. The rooms were provided with a traditional key and not even an electronic key card. They did not have a free snack bar like what some other hotels. They were provided with a thermos and not even a kettle. Their amenities i.e soap were in sachets! Also there was no provision for a safe Although the location was great, inmho i did not think it was value for money., and the web pictures were nothing that looked like the actual thing. Just saying
