The GRAND ASTON Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort & Spa garners appreciation for its spotless rooms and pristine grounds, with the modern and stylish atmosphere of the hotel being a highlight for guests. However, some visitors find the music too loud and yearn for quieter spaces. While the amenities—including the stunning beaches and entertainment—receive praise, a few travelers suggest improvements in maintenance and service. Opinions on value are divided; some guests feel that the experience doesn't fully justify the cost. The staff's warm and attentive service, however, often compensates for any shortcomings.

Above Average Cuban Resort.

We had a relaxing and enjoyable time at Grand Aston June 6 to 13, 2024. The resort is fairly new and the design of the rooms and the public spaces is modern and colorful. The beds were comfortable, the bedding was nice.

We had no problems with the shortages we read of at other resorts, Full range of liquor available, cocktails, wine, beer, coffee was steady, had omelets for breakfast every morning, pools were clear and in good shape. This resort catches nice ocean breezes in several areas.

Of course the staff make the place, we had friendly service in the Lobby bar, the pool bar, from our room stewards, and particularly in the "Snack bar" which is really a full service bar (with glassware if you stay seated, plastic/paper cups for the pool) with restaurant service that changes throughout the 24 hours it is open. Get breakfast here.

We had one meal at the Cuban A La Carte, we all enjoyed it, we has some great meals at the Buffet, grilled chicken, fresh fried rice, Pasta of the day, some days we weren't into it. We ate often at the "Snack Bar"

Our 'cons' are few:

The beach is beautiful, and better for small children and sailing, but we missed the waves of the "main" beach on C. Santa Maria, - that's a preference.

Some of the entertainment was louder than we like, with shouting to raise energy and v. high overdrive. We liked the guitar player and the sax player in the lobby and the more traditional Cuban/Latin music rather than the EDM/Techno versions. Lots of other people including the Cuban guests seemed to like it just fine.

That furniture that looks so cool and photogenic in the lobby is not cool to sit on as it is covered in vinyl including the backs. Gets warm fast.

We would have liked to be in the Adults-only section since we were all adults, how to get there wasn't clear to us when we booked or when we got there, but when they told us we couldn't have a drink at the adult pool because we had the wrong wrist band, though we were clearly adults, that put us off a bit.

In closing we had superb service, but best of all from Enrique and the team at the Snack Bar: friendly, professional, excellent food and drink - make that your main stop and enjoy.

We all want to go back.

My friends and I went for 2 weeks, we each had our own rooms. Overall the resort was 9/10, mainly because of the many staff that work there. They are always warm, friendly, greeting and helpful!

I've been to cuba a few times, and I've heard many complaints about food in Cuba, and this trip I experienced what they meant! Shortages on eggs, or egg powder, lack of options for Western cuisines, but there were still plenty of other options, fruits, fresh baked bread/buns, juice, coffee, water. You'd never starve, or leave dehydrated.

The pool was fantastic, and the bartenders were always in such great moods, friendly and always tending to everyone as quickly and efficiently as they could. Unfortunately they did run out of keg beer, but they soon replaced that with plenty of bottled beer until the kegs returned.

The rooms on second and third floors didn't have any issues, but on the main floor, one of my friends had problems with bugs, and small creatures entering if the patio door was left open. The beds were comfy, never had any issues with power outages, and the housekeeping staff were so happy to be there, and of course make cute characters out of the towels. One time they put my small bluetooth speaker next to a character, and had the music video channel playing, as if they were dancing to music. It was very cute and funny.

Lots of options for places to eat, but unfortunately it was the same sort of food options at all places, from the buffet to the a la carte restaurants. I hope this has improved since we were there in March 2024.

Overall I would enjoy going back to this place again, it's not far from the catamarans, and you can watch them come in and out all day long.

We stayed over New Years. Asiel at the buffet was great, he was always friendly. Alain at the customer service desk was amazing, made our trip even better. He helped with all of our questions and needs. The beach is great, was the highlight of our trip, however we would recommend bringing bug spray for dusk and dawn near the beaches as the bugs were quite bad during these times. The food was great by Cuba standards, we had a fresh cooked source of protein every meal (chicken, pork, beef), as well as eggs every morning, sometimes bacon as well. Drinks at the pool, beach, and jazz bar were the best. We tried to avoid the lobby bar as we found the wait to be long and the drinks were unenjoyably stiff. Our room was cleaned every morning and they did a good job. However, this resort had a shortages of towels, so we’d recommend bringing some of your own so you’re not using the same towel all week. The nightly dancers/entertainment on the stage every night was good. If you have snorkelling gear bring it as the beach has great snorkelling areas. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this resort. Cuba has its limitations but this resort does really well with what they have. We would recommend.

We went on a family trip for my mom's birthday in September of this year and I really have mixed feelings with this hotel.
First of all, if your birthday or it’s your non-wedding anniversary, don’t expect great attention from the hotel, beyond putting a sign with balloons in the room, they won’t do anything. You can buy a cake for $30, in other hotels the cake is given away.
The hotel food is a surprise, it is good in taste, but it is scarce. My recommendation is that you go to eat early, within minutes of the buffet opening. Of the à la carte restaurants, Cuban was in our opinion the most recommended, French was a total fiasco. They passed us a cold omelet for a quiche. The drinks were fine, we found almost everything we were looking for. Don’t expect to find great whiskey or wine, but there was something to choose from.
The hotel is very large, and if you are in the family section, the beach is far away. But you can always wait for a cart to take you, and still to return. We recommend that you keep the phone number of the driver so that you can call him when you want to return. If you like to explore in this section you can find a smaller beach and just next door a beautiful place to snorkel.
The beach is actually beautiful, although it is true that the sand is a little strange to the touch and seems muddy at times, but that is characteristic of some Cuban beaches, especially those more natural. There was still quite a bit of slack. But you could find wide areas of sand to be in. Once you overcome the strangeness of the sand, the beach is wonderful. Very quiet always because it has a natural breakwater in front of it, so you won't find a raging water. And there are fish, you'll see them swim close to you. Moreover, the pool is also nice, spacious and very clean.
In addition to being large, the hotel is spacious and modern. The lobby is a great place to sit and have coffee. I recommend you bring repellent because there are enough mosquitoes. The room was also spacious, although the bathroom is a bit small. If they go to a room of three, demand that they put a personal bed in the room, not a bedspreader. They're dangerous, they disarm.
The staff was friendly, they found solutions to almost everything we requested. I'd go back to this hotel.

You get what you paid for. We got a very good (cheap) price but that means we were woken up three nights in a row by druken tourists talking loudly in the hall at 2 am and another night by people having a “party” (souting loudly) in the room across from us.

We were in building 11, which is close to the adult pool. The room was clean and well kept, mini fridge was restocked daily and we never ran out of hot water. The air conditioning worked fine and the beds were comfortable. I’ve been to Cuba over 35 times so you know some things are not always easy to fix, but the washrooms next to the adult snack bar, which is also the closest one to the beach, were filthy and not cleaned for the first two days we were there. The ones in the lobby are also left to be desired, but the ones at the snack bar were gross.

The food however, was quite tasty. The offered sandwiches, chicken, hot dogs and fish, which was absolutely delicious. They also had a little buffet indoors with soup, some veggies and fruit. Wine was never lacking anywhere and the service was impeccable wherever we went. Michel at the French à la carte is a sweetheart and my two favourite, Borealys and Jorge at the beach bar, are amazing and really made our trip super enjoyable. We miss you guys!

The beach… water is calm so you can sit and enjoy the sun, but you can’t really swin. Music was very loud but the entertainment team was good and tried to engage with as many people as possible. The main irritant would be the lack of chairs. We’ve never had to do this, but my husband set his alarm so he could reserve chairs. We ended up giving up of them to a lady who was lying on the sand. A lot of people were lying on the sand actually, which is unacceptable considering you will see piles and piles of chairs if you take a beach walk passed the Grand Sirenis and the One Galery.

One major irritant, but that’s not the hotel’s fault, were the smokers. There are so many and they smoke everywhere, including the restaurant terrace while we were eating. So it’s not surprise that you will see cigarette butts everywhere as well as on the beach, including in the ocean, which is just sad.

Also, Cubans cannot use canadian coins. Yes, they can exchange them for bills, which means we can home with 150$ in coins. I recommend tipping with 1$ USD for drinks and smaller meals, and use 5$ and / or 10$ for the À la cartes.

All in all it was a good vacation, but we would not go back. If we did, it would be to see our friends Borealis and Jorge, and Ernesto the security guard who gifted me with a book from his collection as a souvenir.

The check in took from 1145 to 0300 AM
Although we were in a group all rooms were on separate floor, with kids in one room in a corner. The room had a swamp on two sides and you can hear frogs and lots of mosquitos.
We had paid for ocean view and we got swamp view.
Each time we went to the front customer service desk for the room change they would say tomorrow, morning, evening at 4.00 PM and then after three days we just stayed with what we had.
The water gets shut off at 1100 and turned on at 0500 AM or so. No water at night
Food for vegetarian is negligible not even scarce I would say. The bread would be done in breakfast, sometimes in lunch and everything and anything had meat. There was no butter for bread. Let me correct there was only 1 day there was butter for bread. No potatoes, fries, eggs(only couple days we had them sourced at one of the pool snack bars), onions and when you ask the servers or chefs they would say "I don't know".
Ala Carte restaurant, Italian cuisine had not pizza or garlic bread. Cuban cuisine had no bread butter or rice...
The AIR TRANSAT support person never on site other than the first day for a briefing of how, when what about 2 hrs.... Sunwing support desk open and manned all day almost.

Good part of the trip
The water and beach is excellent. The coconut water if you like fresh it was great for 1US$ each. Tips are necessary and mandatory.

I stayed at the Grand Aston for a week in December 2024. Below is my concise review/experience:

Pros:
- The grounds are beautiful and landscape well kept.
- The beach is quiet with lots of chairs and huts.
- Buffet had variety of protein during our stay (days alternating for fish, calamari, pork, chicken, beef), and plenty of fresh veggies, and stews.
- Overall, no issues with food or drink options.
- If you want a quiet stay in Cuba, this would be the resort - not overly populated resort, or loud chaos/parties.

Cons:
- For our check-in, we were given cards and the room number but not greeted with welcome, and not given any information regarding resort amenities or way-finding/i.e getting around in the resort... we had to speak to another individual the following day and ask questions.
- Our room in building 10, only had one bottle of water in the fridge and no additional beer cans like other resorts.
- Also we had no hand towels, and the first night and day no hot water for the shower.
- While we had booked two twin beds with the travel agent, they checked us into a room with one king bed... we had to revisit the front desk and ask for room change.
- The bathrooms in the resort (ie. at the theatre, and near buffet, and pool, require upkeep and maintenance, some of them didnt have operational light, or soap dispenser, or working locks).
- Because the resort didnt have many guests staying this impacted the Animacion team.
- We were also told by one male from Animacion the first day we were there, that we get to participate in a one hour private salsa class. Only after questioning him further because his demeanor was off, we found out that the class was private and had to be paid for. I understand he was trying to make some money, however, it came off the wrong way.. especially on our first day.

Because our travel party wanted more engagement and activity involvement, we ended up walking to Grand Sirenis for the duration of our days (which was the resort next to Grand Aston, 1-2km walk on the beach), to participate in aqua-gym, volleyball, games, and music on the beach.

I checked in on August 21 and checked out on August 24, spending the worst days of my stay in Cuba. On the 21st they gave me several rooms, starting with two occupied when there were other guests and whose timing was inopportune and embarrassing, the next two were dirty and the next two were in poor condition and dirty, so the last two would be 8 in total. so that you have an idea of that bad time. The second thing, my rooms were supposedly unoccupied and clean in the hotel system, so my room 0315 was never cleaned nor did they put the water knob on through room service. They did not change my towels and they did not give me pool towels until the morning of the 23rd. In the snack, the food is of low quality and the service has nothing to do with a 5-star hotel. At the buffet I had to endure the humiliation of two shop assistants not wanting to serve me and instead they put water knobs on halfway and claimed that the tables were occupied, this being uncertain. Two days a shop assistant did it to me and on the last day another one did it to me. He refused to serve us and instead looked for another clerk to serve us. The lady from costumer service Zulay, when I approached her to give her certain recommendations such as that I needed a juice for my girl to take her medicine or to tell her what was happening to me, told me that she had nothing to do with that or anything, so she asked me I ???what costumer service is that?????. The foreign shopping man made fun of me by making me wait two hours for some pool towels that finally appeared since the room waiters and the girls at the towel rack never had them in 4 days of my worst 1 and last stay in a hotel in Cuba.

My husband and I spent a week at this resort. One of the main reasons we chose this resort was because it advertised as a non-smoking resort with non-smoking rooms. This was the furthest thing from the truth. Although there was a designated smoking area in the lobby, guests and staff were smoking everywhere. Only the restaurants were smoke free. As I am allergic, this was a problem for me. We could not avoid the smokers as they were everywhere and not considerate of others at all. We could not attend the evening entertainment as we tried one night but were surrounded by smokers so had to leave. When we arrived at the resort there was an ash tray in our room which we promptly put outside.

The resort supplied no maps and only had a couple random map signs along the paths which showed general locations of places, but not specific restaurants, etc. We explored the resort on our own to find our way around. One of the a la carte restaurants we could not find so we ended up asking and were told that one of the restaurants alternates their days as two different restaurants although it was signed as just the one.

The food was fine. We know they deal with food shortages there, but there was always a good variety of food at the buffets. They would also have stations set up where they would cook things as you waited.

We could only swap our beach towel to a clean one once during the week, as they often did not have any available. We did notice that since the towel shack was near the pool, a lot of people from the pool area were swapping their towels continually when they were available. This made it harder for beach users to get any.

The beach was lovely and we never had a problem getting a chair or shade. The pools were very cold and not many people were ever in them. The weather was cooler than expected and we had a couple bad storms and a lot of wind, but no one can control the weather.

We found the resort staff to be not as friendly or helpful as we had previously experienced in Cuba at a different resort. The front desk staff seemed especially indifferent, except for one.

Our vacation was relaxing, which we desperately needed amid our stressful life back home. Unfortunately, the resort was disappointing, the worst part being all the smoking everywhere. We will not go back to this resort.

The rooms were nice however, everything else was not so good. The majority of staff struggled to speak and understand English. Person who books A-la-carte restaurants was not helpful and a little arrogant. If you got a restaurant you were lucky. Most days we had to do the main buffet, which was a sad excuse of a buffet compared to the resort we went to in 2023. They did not have real eggs either.... powdered eggs that had a lot of liquid in them most days. Unless you went VIP, you could not get a real egg. Fantastic bread at the buffet though. Most wait staff could not understand you when you asked a question.
When a problem arose with our friends, with the in room safe, it took most of the day with multiple visits to the front desk to get somebody to open it.
The beach was horrible too. Broken seashells everywhere, ok I get it its a beach, but a little grooming would have been nice. The water itself has lots of seaweed which is an issue for all 5 of us who went. And the sand as you started to walk out, it's like it pulled you in. There were others we talked to who had to get a friend to give them a pull because the sand sinks around you like quicksand. The garbage cans were always full and usually o erflowing too.
The one plus I can say is the pool bar staff: Chino, Jose, and Michel, were absolutely amazing and spoke English well and French too. They would joke around with you and you could tell they really enjoyed being there.

We will NOT return here. The negatives for us completely outweigh the positives.

Dear Client: We heartily appreciate you honest review. We understand some of our services did not exactly meet all your expectations but we thank your giving us the chance to identify these improvement opportunities. Your comments have been a reliable guide to start correcting some of these issues that impair our guests can have a memorable vacation, such as the food style and selection. We have been working really hard in this respect and we hope will be able to achieve higher levels of satisfaction in this area. The beach was built by man, the sand was extracted from the sea, this sand usually has shells and snails, which our workers rake daily. In addition, the algae, the green color and the bad smell, are produced by the mangroves that are found there, these mangroves are in a protected area that is not allowed to be damaged by specific instructions from CITMA (it is the organization that protects the environment from Cuba) Thanks for praise our staff, we will pass your nice comments to them. It will always be a pleasure to welcome you at GRAND ASTON Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort and Spa as our guests. Please, give us the chance to serve one more time. Best regards, Sales Manager
