My husband and I visited this resort from Feb. 26th to March 4th. We didn't have high expectations, going to this resort, after reading some of the negative reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised how nice and clean it was. The resort is beautiful and modern, the service is great, they have wonderful staff and they really trying to accommodate you with all your needs and make you stay very comfortable. We had ocean view room on the 3rd floor, in bungalow #6 and we really liked it. We always had water, beer, (1 can) in the fridge, fresh towels were always available and the room was clean. We always had hot water in the shower.
Beds are comfortable, pillows are flat, but if you put the decorative pillows, right behind, it works just fine, so had a good sleep. Wifi worked great in the room and we had 4 hours free WIFI, as a bonus, because we booked our trip with Sunwing.
The food was good, we even had spring salmon, in the buffet, for 3 days in the row, for dinner. Also, try to be there by 7:00pm, when they open a buffet, so you will have a good selection of food, but if you come late, some dishes will be gone. They have variety of fish and meat on a grill, everyday. One day we had tacos for lunch, they were so good. Also, grilled chicken is very testy. If you need a spoon, or salt and pepper, ask your server, as they don't leave it on a table, but they will bring it to you. We are quite spoiled in Canada so, try to always remember that they simply don't have what we have here, but they work very hard to accommodate our needs and always come to your table with a big smile on a face.
Pools and the beach were amazing, great staff on the beach coming to bring you a chair and serve you drinks. There are lots of chairs to lay out on, so you don't have to be there early morning, unless you would prefer to have an umbrella that is close to the water. You can snorkel right on the beach, lots of small tropical fish in the water, near rocks and star fish as well. Swimming was awesome, nice white sand, but be aware of small shells on the beach, not in the water.
Big thank you to Niliam, she serves drinks in the lobby bar and Ernesto, he is a server in the buffet. They were great and gave us fantastic service. They are the best servers.
I am a picky person, but left this resort with wonderful memories. Thanks everyone in the resort for your hard work!

This is my 3rd time to Cuba, and by far this was my favourite resort to stay at.

Overall a great experience. It was a new hotel, and not many people staying there yet. This likely contributed to the pros and the cons.

All of the negatives were minor inconveniences at most.

Daniel at the pool bar was a hit with the children and went out of his way to make them feel welcome and special. He was very attentive (proactively coming out to take and deliver orders), engaging, and always had a smile on his face.

Pros
• first drop off from airport
• reception ready for us, no check in issues or delays
• rooms decorated with modern amenities. had everything we needed
• issues addressed right away (room safe/additional towels)
• staff friendly, attentive, great with kids. Helpful and available without being overbearing
• large beach, plenty of lounge chairs, more shade umbrellas being constructed
• consistent water temperature and pressure, even during pre-dinner rush
• variety and quality of food
• setup, cleaned loungers when you get to beach
• drink service on beach
• abundant amount of sun beds and lounge chairs
• pools were large and easy to enter for kids.
• Large wading area in pool
• beach, water, pool all clean, large, accessible. beach was shallow enough for younger kids to play and wade in safely
• table service at bars, beach, and restaurants was great, staff remembered drink preferences during the week
• all guest rooms in main building were on 2nd floor or higher (ground floor reserved for public spaces, restaurants, etc.)
• rooms were quiet with doors closed
• mini bar restocked daily

Cons
• only 2 pool/bath towels in room for 4 guests (additional towels were delivered upon request)
• gym hours don't fit my schedule (locked before 9am)
• kid friendly options lacking at Mediterranean a la carte (other a la carte and buffets were fine)
• frequently ran out of Pina colada mix other than at lobby bar
• wait times for some fresh buffet items (eggs, pancakes, buffet pastas). Wait times much better when 2 staff were available and serving
• due to low occupancy, not all a la carte restaurants were open
• no shade near the water at the beach during our trip (although additional shade umbrellas were being added while we were there)
• construction dust / residue in rooms, but can be expected in or a brand new build

Tips:
• bring your own ketchup, as it was in high demand and low supply at the snack bar
• the beach/pools in February were a bit windy, towel clips would be useful

I want to start off by saying thank you to Lisandra From kids club / customer service she was phenomenal with her customer service and a very friendly person. Thank you to this individual for making our time here a great positive experience.

Others who were great as well are Elvis from entertainment and the crew always. They always showed us a great time

And Pedro Mario from customer service for his bright smile and always making us feel welcome.

Resort is clean and customer service is great. Room was tidy, always chairs available by the pool or the beach. A added bonus is when you go to the beach they bring your chairs to wherever you want to sit.

Food - one con was waiting 2 hours at the Italian restaurant for them to tell us there was no pasta after that’s what our entire table ordered

Just in general every restaurant you wait 2 hours from sitting down to getting your food. They really need to speed things up with this process

The buffet - the worst experience every morning was getting eggs and having a 20 minute wait for eggs because they only have 1 poor woman doing the eggs. There should always be two people on eggs/omelette

Other than that most of the food was okay. Never went hungry. But it could of been better if they are calling themselves a 5 star.

Here is our experience: at the buffet the staff is disorganized and the food wasn't good. We are not picky, and didn't have high expectations, but a lot of the food was inedible. And it's amazing how many different ways you can serve cut up hot dogs :) Bring your own salt, pepper, ketchup and hot sauce if you like it for flavour. The last night there were some extra condiments offered, so perhaps they are on the way to providing something better. Also, I saw someone with peanut butter, that may help with more food options as the bread is good. The 24 hour snack bar only had a portion of the items on it's menu, never had pizza for instance. The room was very nice, although oddly, the shower doesn't provide much privacy so if you were traveling with a friend or relative and were shy about nudity, you may feel uncomfortable. It's not inside a private room. The best rooms in my opinion would be in building 4 or 5, on the second floor, (or 3rd if you want more exercise) Get ones with "odd" numbers, that way your balcony faces the sunset. The other buildings are either too close to the construction next door (1, 2 &3), and the others (6, 7 & 8) are quite far from the lobby and bars (nearby beach bar and pool bar close at 6). there are a lot of other rooms in a huge building above the restaurants and lobby, but I'm not sure anyone uses them yet, so I cannot elaborate. I'm not sure there was even half the capacity of the hotel filled. Thank goodness, as they're not prepared for full capacity. There is a coffee maker in the room and mugs, but no coffee, so bring your own ground coffee, sugar/sweetener, creamer and spoon. If you like tea, bring your own bags and a mug as the only mugs are really small, just for coffee. Also, bring a roll of toilet paper to carry around as often the public washrooms were without. The beach is beautiful. There are lots of chairs and shade. The beach staff is friendly and help you set up and brush the sand off the chair. They also come around often and take drink orders. Regarding drinks, the beer is plentiful and good, but there was no white wine and every night they ran out of red wine. We've traveled a lot and been to many all inclusives and this one had the most problems, including many other small ones I haven't mentioned here. Hopefully, it will all improve with time.

Hotel is brand new and quite nice. The staff are trying to do a good job and are very friendly. Property and rooms are well maintained but again the place is brand new. There is also a good selection of beach toys. Suggestions I would make are for management. 1) Have more than one person at the counter during check in. 2) Don't have such a money grab when converting money to CUCs. The bank rate was roughly 1CAD to 0.73CUC while the hotel desk would only give you 0.65CUC. 3) Place garbage containers around the complex - especially the pools. There aren't any. Better training of the wait staff. Most appear quite lost when it comes to busing and setting tables. We watched several times where wait staff bused tables but failed to pick up garbage under the table.

We had a great week at this hotel. The staff were very attentive and beyond friendly. The resort just openend in December 2019 so everything is shiny and new - I'm pretty sure we were the first ones to stay in our room. The beach was beautiful, and sheltered by surrounding islands so it was never too wavy to swim. I would highly recommend this resort.

We visited the grand Sirenis Cayo Santa Maria the week of March 9, 2020. The resort itself is quite beautiful as is the amazing beach.
The beach is huge and there are always beach chairs and umbrellas available which the very kind staff will move to wherever you want.
We stayed in a ocean view room. The room was clean, quiet and spacious. It had a large balcony to sit and watch the sunset. The staff are very helpful and although English is not there first language they will try their best and hardest to communicate with you. A very large thank you to Lisandra from guest services who made sure my birthday was a special one. The lobby bar has lots of seating and and great live singers on many nights. The shows in the theatre have potential to be great they just need some tweaking but we enjoyed some laughs. There are two large pools, both are kid friendly but were quite cold most of our time there.
Ok now the food! It definitely needs improving. The buffet always had pretty much the same selection of items and you can only do sausages so many ways.
They do have an omelette bar every morning and did fried donuts twice while we were there. We tried 3 a la cartes. The Cuban was disappointing although my husband said was best fried chicken he has ever had. The Italian is in no way Italian at all. I ordered the chicken and baked potato and was given a chicken breast that looked scary with nothing else.
The grill was ok but they run out of food so often.

A few suggestions to Grand Sirenis Cayo Santa Maria.
1) From what I saw you are a family resort, you need to have more options available for children as they can be picky eaters. (French fries, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, Mac and cheese) have a special kids section at the buffet it will appeal more to families.

2)You need to educate your staff on the seriousness of food allergies. I am celiac and constantly tried to explain that I could not have flour. At your snack bars there were no options for me at all and the buffets were also iffy. I ended up losing 5 pounds as I was unable to eat practically nothing.

3)You need to inform the Sunwing rep as to when the panoramic bus comes as he is giving out the wrong info.
4) Keep up the good customer service it was a pleasure to deal with such genuinely nice people.

We had previously stayed with the Sirenis chain and decided to give this resort a try. We were not disappointed. Excellent new resort and very friendly and helpful staff.

Daniel the bartender in the east pool is exceptional. Always made sure our needs were met and my cup was not empty. Very very hard worker making drinks, making the rounds around the pool. He was also very good with my kids, made special juices for them on numerous occasions whenever possible. He made our pool days very enjoyable. Thanks again for everything!

Adrian GarcĂa Acosta, our 1st server at the snack bar and our Go to a la carte server, is one of the best servers we have dealt with on many visits to different resorts. Like Daniel, he goes out of his way for us to make sure everything is comfortable. Not only does he remember our drink selections, the high chair for our young one is always prepared and ready at the table. His attention to detail is meticulous. Servers like him are far and few in between. We are very grateful to have had him as our server for the duration of our stay. For those of you lucky enough to have him as your server, remember to ask him for drink recommendations. The ones he recommended quickly became my favorites, they are to die for! Thanks again!

Pedro Perez in Public Relations looked after our needs with attention and care, answered all my questions and always promptly booked my a la carte reservations.

The staff is obviously here to please. Would gladly return

The resort is very pretty, at the moment there is a food shortage in Cuba so the buffet is a bit underwhelming, breakfast is the best time to eat in terms of options. The beach is right beside your hotel room which is very convenient, and there is help everywhere you go, no matter if you need chairs put down, a table reserved, or extra blankets in your room. I find that the beach is the best place to relax, the pool tends to be loud around 2-5, unless you want to walk to the other side of the resort for the quiet side. Room service isn’t the best depending on which cleaner you have, my parents loved their cleaner and my cousin and I found that we didn’t get our shower or towels cleaned. We went to the market in town, the bus took 30 minutes and the taxi took around 10, so I recommend the taxi. They don’t have every drink option available so it’s different everyday, which I found a lot of people struggled with. I ended up finding a drink I enjoyed, and the bartenders were amazing in terms of service. All in all, I think the time that we went wasn’t the best, but I can see that this resort would be a nice time away for a good price.
