Attended on Friday 10th Jan for my birthday, which my girlfriend had booked as a surprise.

Tasting menu on offer, which was 9 courses

From the minute we walked in we were made to feel very comfortable and welcome.

Sometimes, restaurants of this standard can feel stuffy and formal. Macneen is not that.

While staff are extremely professional and obviously well trained. They are very attentive to all their guests without being overly so.

Neven was working that night. He was a fantastic host. He spends a lot of time in the dining room with his guests and chatted to everyone individually. He is clearly very passionate about what he's doing there and that comes across. He even gave me a signed copy of his book as a gift which was an extremely kind touch.

The food is absolutely next level. Presentation and quality is of the highest standard and everything tasted delicious. Everything they put on the plate matters. Nothing is there for show.

Due to the cost Macneen house is not for every Friday night and nor is it designed to be but it is for those special occasions and they do make your occasion feel special.

Finally I had chocolate tart for dessert. For a chocolate addict, It was the best desert I've ever had.

Overall a fantastic experience and while costly it is worth it for those special times and it will create a lasting memory for whomever you choose to spend it with.

Absolutely excellent. Food was fantastic. Wine pairings were lovely. Decor, music, ambiance was perfect. Staff were really friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The staff had rang in advance to check re food allergies- I had told them my wife was pregnant and this was accommodated (smoked salmon replaced on one of her dishes) and they even gave us a gift of a cook book for babies. Nothing to fault at all. Would highly recommend

Amazing-a truly amazing experience from start to finish. We booked McNean house 23 months ago, it seemed like the date would never arrive. The setting is quiet, beautiful interiors and a very stylish outdoor area just opened. There is one dinner sitting at 6pm. The staff are very kind and attentive throughout. Nevan made time for every table once and even twice in the evening. The food..where can I start. All local produce, packed with flavours, amazing presentation..we honestly could not have enjoyed an evening more. Such a treat but such a delight to do. This is Irish food and service at its best..we finished our evening in the lit up heated outdoor area in style..loved it all..thank you McNean house.

I don’t know what Neven is doing, but he definitely needs to bottle and patent it. He is unique. Maclean House staff are very well trained, polite, and friendly. They are also local. Food was amazing and wine list adequate. Rooms maybe needed a little care and attention, but spotless and very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast truly amazing. Best ever and check out seamless. No 12.5% service charge demanded. Was happy to pay 20% for such a well managed establishment. I promised Neven a bottle of good Chapel Down English “CHAMPAGNE” next time I visit. Well Done

Have been here for the 4th time in 4 years this year. Always amazing food, service and atmosphere.

I have only stayed in the townhouse and love it as plenty of room for up to 5 people.

The cocktails are very good quality, the wine list is extensive and has some very affordable wines on there.

The food is amazing, and 4 of us have very different tastes (ie some veggie, some not).

Portions size generous for a tasting menu.

The breakfast is top notch too.

What makes it even more excellent is the service, everyone is so friendly and professional, but still a relaxed atmosphere.

One of our friends in the group was celebrating a "roundy" birthday. As she is an ardent "Nevin" fan we decided that a trip to MacNean House and Restaurant would be a good present and a hopefully unforgettable experience for her and indeed for us all too. So, we duly arrived on Tues 5th March for to sample Nevin's Prestige Dinner Menu. On booking the reservation via phone I informed the staff member that it was a birthday celebration and that she is a Nevin fan so that if he was there, maybe he would say " hello" , that it would make her night! Greeting staff and waiting staff were friendly, helpful and seemed very happy to be there.
We had the Tasting Menu and the balance of the menu, portions, wait in between courses was spot on. The quality of the food and the presentation was wonderful. To be honest, I didnt expect such quality. I have eaten in Le Gavroche in London and the quality in MacNean was so reminiscent of Michel Roux Jr. Fabulous.
However, the icing on the cake was the man himself Nevin. He came out to us, chatted away posed for photos . He came across as a genuinely " nice guy" passionate about cooking, his staff seemed a tight unit. It was a truly pleasant experience well worth the money. Keep it up MacNean House. Well done.

I have wanted to go to MacNean house for some time and I was not disappointed. My family brought me here as a surprise for my birthday. Our rooms were well appointed, comfy and have everything you need including a bath. The beds are comfy but I found the pillows a little uncomfortable.

We had the tasting menu and went for the wine pairings. The food was delicious start to finish. The pace of the plates was a little quick but I asked them to slow it a little which they did no problem. The dining room is well laid out, well lit (even with Christmas lights) and has a nice ambience. The staff were professional, attentive, friendly and warm. I liked the fact that the restaurant does a single sitting per evening.

Breakfast is served at the same table we had for dinner and is of an excellent standard. Served a la carte, we had excellent porridge, prunes and apricots with some delicious yogurt. We all opted for the fry which was well presented and tasty. Delicious sausages, bacon and pudding. A special mention for Imelda who was maitre d’ for breakfast. Attentive, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for her and the team.

Unfortunately, the weather was wet and visibility poor so we did not experience the full beauty of the area. An excuse to return some time in the near future😉

My wife and I had been talking about visiting this place for the past 10 years, throw kids into the mix and well all that gets pushed aside. We made the decision last year to treat ourselves and after an 18 month waiting list, we finally got to experience the exquisite hospitality of Macanean House.
3.5hr drive from Kilkenny was the only downside, but all that was forgotten when we checked in, rooms are well appointed and quite spacious, outdoor patio area is new and very relaxing.
The dinner was outstanding and our waitress Georgia was fantastic from start to finish, so well trained and attentive. Credit to Restaurant Manager and Sommelier Blaithin, who have the staff trained to an exceptional level. You genuinely feel they love coming to work. She also has an encyclopedic knowledge of wine and I quite enjoyed chatting to her about my own wine journey. We decided to do the wine pairing option also on the night, which I must say is well worth the extra cost. You'll be a little tipsy going back to your room though!

I love my food, but I have to say a stunning, well presented 3 course breakfast awaited us the next morning, had me defeated! (Although the wine might of had something to do with that!). Overall, the food experience was faultless!
From a covid point of view, everything was very safe, and at no point felt uncomfortable. You actually keep your same table for dinner and breakfast the next morning also and with indoor dining on hold at the moment to non residents, only about 40 covers are cateree for each night.
We we're lucky enough to meet Nevin after dinner, he is an absolute gentleman, and I must say, he genuinely tries to get around to everyone who is dining. We were delighted to see him given it was fathers day and he had his own family to celebrate with.
Himself and his wife Amelda run a premium establishment here, with pure customer focus at the forefront of everything they do. No question, we will be back.
For those that are foodies , this place is not to be missed!
