Built in the early 19th Century, Lough Bishop is a charming Country House nestling peacefully into a south-facing slope overlooking Bishop's Lough in County Westmeath, Ireland. Lough Bishop provides unique Country House Bed & Breakfast Accommodation owing to its wonderful location in the middle of a working organic farm. Breathtaking scenery in an unspoilt and tranquil setting, amid the rolling farmlands and lakes of Westmeath make Lough Bishop an ideal refuge from the hustle and bustle of modern life. There are family dogs in the background and animals play a large part of life at Lough Bishop House. Following extensive renovation this attractive Georgian Country Farmhouse offers its guests luxurious bed and breakfast accommodations, peaceful surroundings and fine food much of which comes from our own farm, garden and orchard.

We stayed recently for three nights in a lovely house, in lovely countryside with the best hosts. Westmeath was new to us, and within an easy reach were Lough Crewe, Mullaghmeen Forest, Tullynally and so on. Also, this was a proper farm. The breakfasts were very good with almost all produce homemade..bread, juice and jams...wonderful.

We had a fantastic experience here recently with our hosts Christopher and Helen. From the warm welcome, beautiful surroundings, fresh tasty home cooked food from their farm, the relaxing fire side chats and the really wonderful tour of the farm next morning we came away feeling inspired and really delighted that we have chosen to spend a night here and hope to return for many more. A little hidden gem !

We stayed there 2 nights for both business trip to Athlone and to experience an undiscovered region of Ireland -in a touristic point of view, of course, as Helen put it when we arrived.
Helen and Christopher are wonderful hosts and make you feel at home -tea and brownies, logs burning in the fireplace, and even an unexpected very nice weather for 2 days.
the cows and sheep will be your sole companions, as well as 3 generations of Jake Russells
Helen is the most considerate landlady and will open for you the gates of a little paradise: nice, quiet and pristine rooms, a breakfast second to none. Christopher will show you round the place and explain everyhting you wish to know on cattle and sheep caring.Should you lucky enough to have a clear sky you can see lough Bishop in the distance. in the middle of the Irish midlands it will well worth the journey as it is only one hour from Dublin airport

We began our three week excursion to Ireland/Scotland/England with two nights at Lough Bishop House. This set a high standard for all stays to follow, none of which matched the warm hospitality and lovely accommodations we had at Lough Bishop. Helen and Christopher went above and beyond to insure that we were comfortable, even given their busy days on this working farm. We thoroughly enjoyed excursions in the mini trailer around the pastures, learning about the care and heritage of the sheep, cattle and horses on the farm. Breakfasts were outstanding, from the black pudding to the fresh fruit jams and juices freshly made from the property’s harvests (best apple juice I have ever had!). Whether it was a full Irish breakfast or a smaller meal, Helen and Christopher were very attentive to providing us with food that was fresh and to our liking. We also shared wonderful evenings by the peat fire, comparing notes on music and other topics. After a fabulous lamb dinner (direct from the farm and wonderful!), Helen and Christopher enjoyed hearing my husband play harmonica along with a Tom Jones/Jools Holland album. In total, this was my favorite accommodations experience across all of our travels and I am hopeful we can return again. Thanks Helen and Christopher so much for your exceptional hospitality. Sláinte :-)

The beauty of the grounds and living quarters were only surpassed by the gentle, gracious and kind hospitality of the Kelly's. I would recommend, make that insist, to any travelers of the Midlands they should make it a stopover they will always remember.

We had just arrived in Ireland by plane and could not have asked for a more peaceful place to stay our first night. Helen greeted us and immediately offered tea and fresh-made buns, still warm from the oven. The bedroom was spacious and bright with wonderful views and an incredibly good bed (beautiful linens). The bathroom was large and modern, also with a view. We enjoyed an excellent dinner with Helen and Christopher that evening - they are wonderful company - followed the next morning by a home-cooked breakfast. I've not eaten that much bread (baked by Helen) and butter in years. Helen graciously allowed me to follow her about as she tended to the animals and was happy to answer my numerous questions. Although we only stayed one night, there is plenty to do in the area, but most appealing of all is the total tranquility and peace of their beautiful farm. I could easily stay here a week.

A trip highlight on day one! Beautiful drive from Dublin Airport, into another world,. Warmly and comfortably greeted by the delightful Helen and Christopher, who welcomed us into their beautiful farm home. Sheep and brand new lambs grazing just outside and a mare ready to foal. Tea and buttered tea cake served by the fire. A glass of wine and a chat before a hearty delicious dinner topped off with rhubarb pie. Next morning we continued to be pampered by an amazing farm- fresh breakfast. This is not a place, it is an experience. Fondly remembered and highly recommended.

Our aim was to escape from the urban concrete for one night and looking for something different, quite place. And in this way we found this alone-standing, enchanting farm house. The authentic refurbishment of this retreat had the immediate effect of embracing us in a beautifully melancholic feeling. We loved the genuine openness and care of both hosts Helen and Christopher. Sadly, after the exquisite breakfast complemented by falling snow on the outside, we needed to leave already. I feel like the next time I need more time to properly pay tribute to this place!

The closest thing any visitor to Ireland could hope come across in the search of an authentic irish country experience. The setting is a beautiful little farm - no pictures can do it justice. The hosts, Christopher and Helen, are welcoming, generous and genuinely share their lovely home with you. Helen's cooking is terrific (be sure to book ahead for dinner). A stopover at Lough Bishop is a must - simple as that!

This period house has great character. It has many beautiful artefacts is furnished very tastefully. Helen & Christopher are so welcoming, helpful & efficient. Great coffee, home made brack & chat on arrival in the gorgeous conservatory. They engaged in conversation enthusiastically & were interesting to talk with on a variety of subjects. They work this organic farm, having cattle, sheep, hens & bees. The charm & pleasure of our stay included tasting home made bread, honey & jam that they produce. Breakfast was exceptionally nice, including organic yogurt, granola fruit, eggs and succulent non- greasy sausages & rashers. The bed was a dream. Rustic views from the bedroom of grounds which are ideal for a peaceful walk. Room was very clean. Not wishing to be 'too picky' as this is an exceptionally pod B& B experience, more small toiletries & some night & early morning heating is suggested if the Irish Summer goes down to 10C.
Lough Bishop is convenient to local and historical amenities by car & cycle. It is a wonderful B& B, house, location & hosts. Very highly recommended.
