Although the hotel is located some distance from any town, it is in an excellent position to explore the beautiful mountains of the area. The hotel is staffed by pleasant people and is very clean. We had booked our accommodation with half board, which turned out to be a very beneficial option as it was convenient after a day of exploring the region to return to the hotel and have a relaxing and very tasteful dinner without having to travel again to search for a restaurant.

We spent 2 nights here in July discovering the less known Abruzzo. Although the rooms are basic and not very light, this is due to the fact that we slept in a monk’s cell and creature comforts were not a priority. In any case, you don’t come to Abruzzo to spend time instead; you come to walk, cycle and eat! The gardens have an amazing view of the countryside and mountains and the staff (Luisa and Maria Antonetta) wonderfully helpful with information such as the nearest walking trail

Arrived after a very long, hot, cycle ride via the beatiful villages of Calascio and San Stefano.
Warmly greeted, and checked in to very elegant room in testored convent.
Lovely grounds to wander around.
Had dinner there although main restaurant wasnt yet open, good meat skewers, arrosticini and typical cheese/meat platter along with fabulously house wine.
Comfortable quiet night and lovely breakfast, happily stay again if in area.

A lovely scenic place surrounded by beautiful countryside. Perfect break to get away from it all. Very friendly and hospitable host and staff who did their utmost to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Highly recommend.

The convent is set in the hills above Brasciano in a gorgeous location. The staff re welcoming & very, very kind. Our room was set at the far end of the site away from the main building & it was charming. Sadly however the light switch had fallen inside the wall & the toilet leaked, neither of which were attended to despite my advising staff. The pillows were awful. I did not let this detract from what was a wonderful stay. The food in the restaurant was excellent and a 20€ per Person for 2 people was good value. Breakfast was very good. The gardens & surrounds are simply stunning & we loved our time here.

Room Tip: If you can take your own pillow do so. Enjoy the gardens at sunset, the light is stunning.

We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the views across to the mountains - still with snow at the end of May.

The building has been carefully and sympathetically restored with the corridors and courtyard being particularly attractive. The rooms have modern facilities with comfortable beds and simple fittings. Bathroom was simple (small shower enclosure seemed to be the economy version) but very clean and with nice toiletries.

Breakfast was good in the Italian style, with plenty of cake and crostata, but other guests asked for scrambled eggs and seemed more than happy with these.
We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food and wine were very good and the service relaxed and amiable, but somehow the restaurant seemed a bit cold - was it the white furniture?

The garden area below the hotel is a nice idea and we enjoyed looking at the varieties of poisonous and non-poisonous plants, but when we went further down it started to look somewhat untidy and overgrown. I think the garden is looked after by the regional park service and it's a pity that they have let it go a bit. This is probably a popular wedding venue and the garden would be good for photos, particularly with views across to the mountains.

The little room where you can make tea and sit and read is a good idea and we used it a couple of times.

The hotel is a little way out of Barisciano and certainly not within walking distance so we didn't get to explore the little village.

We have stayed in a number of places in Abruzzo and this would rank fairly well amongst them.

I visited this amazing place with my partner and I'm sure we'll go back.
It feels wrong to call this a hotel as there's so much more to it... You can really feel that it's a building with a soul, it has been restored beautifully and tastefully kept to the original character of the monastery. There are natural soaps for sale that are made locally, these are also provided in the rooms bathrooms for guests to enjoy.
The bedrooms may feel bare but this is only because it would have been unnatural to have a luxurious feel in such a place.
My partner is gluten free and every morning he was served freshly baked cupcakes, biscuits and cakes for breakfast, all absolutely delicious! We also had dinner here one of the nights and the ingredients are all locally sourced and seasonal. The food is wonderful and well-priced, with a few set menu options (vegetarian and gluten free too). Good selection of wines.
Last but not least the botanical gardens are well-kept and there's a pond close to the nearby vineyard. We very much enjoyed sitting on the bench, watching the sun set.

Very quiet and peaceful location off the beaten track a few Kms outside the village/town of Barisciano. 15-20 mins by road to L’Aquila - good main road connection to the city.
Converted cells into bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. TV but only Italian stations I think.
Bedrooms tastefully done. Bathroom a bit cramped but fine. The shower unit adequate but in need of redoing but this is reflected in general in the price of the room which was inexpensive. High season €75 per night.
Breakfast included in the price which was fine.

As the campsite nearby was full we phoned to ask if it was possible to spend the night in our camper van parked in the proximity. A very kind lady welcomed us and we parked in their lovely car park.
In the morning we had a scrumptious breakfast (hand made cakes, pecorino cheese, lovely sausages and great choice of fruit juices), and were amazed at how welcoming they were. We would have had dinner there if we hadn’t already booked somewhere else. We only paid 13 euros for breakfast for two.
The place is lovely and we would like to return and stay in their rooms. Lovely garden, children and animals welcome, plenty of space everywhere.
Great feeling of not just being a tourist to squeeze out money of, but truly welcome in a tradition of hospitality that is not so widespread.
I wish their breakfasts could be extended and turned into to afternoon teas. This could be publicized in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. People in the area should collaborate to give visitors a wider range of different specialized eating options.
Thank you!
