Frederic Born, the dynamic owner of the Hotel "Les Chataigniers" took a gamble and revived an old farm in the hills of Privas. After intense effort and hard work, he turned it into a magnificent little village with rooms and apartments called "Le gite de Chabanet" (the home or shelter of Chabanet). He kept the charms of rural France with...

Travelling through France from North to South and seeking an overnight stop 'off the beaten track' we found Privas and Les Chataigniers. You'd have to know the hotel was there but, as usual, we relied on our Michelin Guide to list it, and...

A friendly hotel with owners who do their very best. A nice envirement in the mountains, healthy air to breath, normal room and a france breakfast. (A france breakfast means "it could be better"). The hotel is a little old fashioned, but the rooms are clean and have good beds. It's a pitty that the hotel is situated outside Privas...

There is nothing very exciting about this place. The decoration is dated, the fittings are tired, cleanliness is only average. It is located on the downside of town, in an industrial estate. We will definitely try somewhere else next time; there have to be better choices in Privas.

This introduction is part of my review to the hotel, despite of the limited choice of hotels in Privas coz the...

It is not easy to find Hotel les Chataigniers. First you have to find the village of Privas in the Ardeche. But, when you do find it, you will have arrived at a wonderful destination that is very open, honest, and friendly. A warm reception from Frederic, the owner, and an exceptional kitchen under the supervision of Terry who has...
