Fantastic water sports (waterskiing and wake boarding included), beautiful landscaping and greenery and family friendly fun led by great activities staff made this a great holiday. Do the aqua aerobics with Samanfa and you will earn your lunchtime cocktail!. Don’t let bad reviews put you off! People who expect 5* facilities and services should take a look how much a 5* resort would cost at Xmas before moaning about this place.

The queue to book dinner reservations was sometimes long so we just came back half an hour later. The dinner buffet on the first night was not good and didn’t create the best first impression. However, we enjoyed the lunch buffets and had one further dinner buffet which was great - plenty of salad, lovely fish and two vegetarian options. The kids loved the pizza at Tree Tops and we enjoyed meals at The Pier and Bambou, especially the lobster special. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

Rooms were kept clean and when we needed extra bedding for our kids it was provided with no drama. I actually think room cleaning/towel change every other day is great for the environment so unlike other reviewers I had no problem with it.

On our last day we were given a late check out since we had a night flight. We had to pay a fee but this is normal so again, no complaints.

If you come here, enjoy the water sports, delightful cats that roam the gardens and the relaxed vibe.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year at this hotel. By far the greatest asset this hotel has is the staff, who are so welcoming, friendly and helpful.

We were in room 317 on the ground floor which was large with one of the most comfortable super king size bed I have every had in a hotel. We had an issue with our AC on the first night, and within 5 minutes maintenance staff were there fixing the problem. Rooms were cleaned every other day, but they stocked us up with plenty of tea, coffee, milk and toiletries, and so this was not a problem.

I’ve never been to an AI hotel before where the buffet restaurant wasn’t open every evening, so I found this strange. The choice of food was also very limited. That being said, the food was excellent and I enjoyed ever meal I had.

It seems to me that the hotel is under staffed. Queues to enter the restaurant especially for breakfast were due to staff being unable to clear dirty tables and reset quickly enough. This is no fault of the staff and is a management issue.

The staff work tirelessly and the effort they went to in setting up the weekly beach buffet, Christmas day beach buffet and NYE dinner especially was wonderful and really appreciated.

The reception staff also deserve a mention for always being helpful and friendly, as well as all the bar staff who gave an excellent service.

I understand that the hotel will be taken over by new management shortly and will close for a refurb. I do hope they will be able to retain the current staff, as they were the ones who made our holiday so special.

Our trip was our second visit to this hotel and I reread our last review with interest . It was pleasing to see the new late lounge bar open ( the Red door !) and the improvements to the main bar and flooring .
Staff friendliness was uniformly outstanding as it was before. In fact enormously better than the two other resorts we visited on this holiday ( one considerably more expensive) .
Our refurbished room with ocean view was excellent . As the resort was not fully occupied there was a spacious feeling everywhere and service was very good . Bar service was attentive and cocktails were properly made and tasty.
Personally we found the food was very good especially fish dishes and creole / local recipes which the chefs do best . Special note for the coffee shop which gets top marks .
Water sports were freely available and staff attentive and helpful. After heavy rain showers and with sea conditions the sea can be cloudy with suspended sand but the beach and swimming are fine.
The carpet tennis courts are good ( maybe needing a good brushing) and the tennis professional is extra friendly with great enthusiasm for Pickle Ball ( a new sport for us ) . The gym is well equipped and super cool .
Inclusive white wines are fine but the red wines should be changed .
Finally an award for the most fun employee goes to the singing dancing BBQ chef who created a great lunchtime party .
Ps. Having stayed now in 6 resorts in Saint Lucia - this is the best overall value for money .

Morgan bay is one of the prettiest bays in St Lucia. St Lucia itself was a wonderful place, we stayed in Rodney Bay before St James' and had a lovely time.

St James' was the most disappointing part of our holiday. the hotel was a solid 4 star in facilities. the gym was good and the tennis courts were great and well kept. the pools were clean although the upper level pools could do with a makeover and a lick of paint. The rooms again could have done with a lick of paint, and for the money I would have expected housekeeping to come daily but we were told that if we were staying for 3 nights then we wouldn't be cleaned and coffee/tea not topped up. The water glasses were not washed, and as they expect you to drink tap water, which is clean, i would have preferred clean glasses everyday.

The food was good, breakfast in particular was good and really varied. the coffee shop did great coffee and Chai Latte. We only stayed for 3 nights so no time to get bored with the food, but it would have felt very repetitive if we had stayed for longer.

The major drawback and the reason we wouldn't revisit was the music. it was soooo loud around ALL of the pools, there was no respite, forget listening to the waves or the birds in the trees. The music was dreadful, chosen by whichever bartender was there. lots of deafening rap. we couldn't sit at the swim up bar as we couldn't hear each other talk over the massive speakers. I like a bit of music but Bob Marley on a deafening repetitive loop isn't enjoyable, also who thinks playing 'My ding-a-ling' full blast is fun?

The only bar had deafening entertainment in the evenings, again nowhere else to go in the evenings, so it was sit in silence during the entertainment and talk during the breaks or go back to the room. the entertainment was very Butlins, singers cajoling everyone to dance etc, singers coming up to you with the mike to get you to sing. It just isn't cool, or relaxing. 80's Majorca vibe.

if you want a peaceful break by the beach avoid.

My husband and I had a lovely relaxing holiday for two weeks. The beach was cleared and raked every morning, all the water sport equipment was free to use. Instruction for water skiing and Hobbie Cat sailing at a small extra charge. All the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. At the beginning the food wasn’t as we expected it to be, but improved greatly after a chef/management meeting. Our last meal was amazing, to be remembered with fondness. Thank you Selma and Kim. We were sad to leave and will be definitely going back next year.

We stayed at St James beginning of December for 10 nights with our young son. We had a lovely time at the resort. The waiting staff were so attentive to my son and gave him all the attention . The resort was at about 30-40% capacity for most of our stay which meant the Plum Tree grill was closed by the kids pool. We enjoyed the quietness of the resort with no one reserving sunbeds as there was plenty to go around.
The only issue we found was with the restaurants with the food needing more attention to make it amazing. Menu selection was off at times with most items unavailable . At Bambou the Roti on the menu was not the same as what they had and offered us lamb Roti with bones! Who wants a wrap filled with bones! And it was described as that!. Extra care and attention to the food would make it amazing .Not all restaurants were open due to low capacity so beware of this.

We did day trips out to Rodney bay which is about 20 mins drive away and ate out to mix it up .

Bottled water is given on your arrival only so hang onto your water bottles as you have to top up your water bottles to have water. Better to buy a large water bottle at shop or bring your own to keep.
Rooms are serviced every other day unless you have a child which is then everyday. Our housekeeper Christianna is a treasure and an asset to the resort. She was amazing and was always flexible with us as to when she serviced our rooms as we worked it around our sons naps.

For beach lovers , the resorts beach’s water is not clear at all so don’t expect to be snorkelling as you be disappointed .

Overall we had a lovely stay , majority of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Special mentions to Rashida,Genevieve, Shana, Eziekiel. They are what every resort needs, warm friendly and welcoming. Some of the younger front desk staff do need training on customer service as the difference with dealing with them and the senior staff is night and day.

Stayed here for one week in an ocean view room. Arrived quite late after jumping through the covid hoops at the airport. Check in was friendly but , having booked an ocean sea view I wasn’t expecting a ground floor room with a prime view of the men’s toilets. A quick chat with reception enabled me to move within half an hour of arriving but a bit of common sense at the outset would have prevented putting a single woman on a ground floor room opposite the boys toilet block.
That said the rest of the holiday was lovely. The beach was immaculate, aqua aerobics and a full timetable of classes made the day fun. The beach bbq was delicious. Having to book dinner every day was a bit of a chore and the coffee was truly grim, particularly at breakfast. Definitely go on the Joy’s cruise, the guys are great fun and it’s a good day out. From a housekeeping point of view my room only got cleaned twice in 7 days so I ended up drying my towels off the balcony . Finally it took 4 visits to reception to organise a late checkout which made the last day unnecessarily stressful but they finally allowed me to keep my room till 3pm which really helped. Overall it was a nice, clean hotel in a beautiful location with friendly staff- it just needs to polish off the edges to makes it better.

This is listed as a 5 star hotel albeit I do not believe that it warranted it when we visited. I appreciate we went when restrictions were still in place in terms of face masks and COVID passports etc however the world was returning to some kind of normality. The issue with this hotel when we visited amounted to a lack of staff within the restaurants during the evening leading to long waits in particular inMorgans Pier restaurant - most popular restaurant.
Despite having to pay a daily levy in respect of COVID cleaning (apparently) our room was not cleaned daily and when it did have a cleaner in, it was not cleaned properly. We had a cleaning rag left in our room for 3 days on one occasion. A table with dirty bottles was left on the walkway near our room for several days.
Leisure staff were really good but we did have to speak to one of the restaurant supervisors about one of the young female staff who was blatantly rude on one occasion.
This could be a great place but personally I would go elsewhere if I re-vist St Lucia again.

This was our 5th visit to SJC, so we are in a great position to comment on pre and post covid.
What makes this resort is their staff. Absolutely everyone, from the guys sweeping the beach in the morning, the maintenance guy, the chefs, the water sports guys right through to the management, everyone gave you the time of day and was happy to chat.
What we have to understand is that there is still a pandemic in the world. The resort only reopened on 1st October and are slowly rebuilding. We fully appreciated all the added Covid interventions, like temperature taking, wearing masks when waiting in a queue, etc., but that is a small price to pay to stay safe.
We have been there when the Palms buffet was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and, even then, we used to comment about the amount of food produced to keep everyone happy and how much wastage. We therefore applaud SJC for not bowing to pressure to open up the Palms too early and wait until they have more guests around. Despite what others say, there is plenty of choice at the restaurants that are open and the food is excellent. What is nice is that you do not get offered 'chips with everything' and it is great to have mash potato and fresh veg with meals, versus chips and peas. My husband had the goat roti in the Bamboo and he said it was delicious and even our taxi driver (a local man) said that he had heard that it was top class.
We had our 4 year old grandson with us and every member of staff, especially in the restaurants, remembered his name on a daily basis. They all interacted with him and he felt very special.
Comments on the rooms. We always book a garden view room and this year in the 400 block. The rooms are always clean and I have no qualms about the rooms being service every other day. What do you use the room for??? It is a place to store your clothes, have a shower and sleep. It is no hardship to pull the covers up yourself every other day. Most hotels talk about saving the environment by reusing your towels for 2 days, well this is what the hotel is doing !!!! but without having someone come and look in your room.
Lighten up some of you, the St Lucian's have been through a hard time with Covid (as have everyone else) and they are one of the most welcoming people I have ever met. Yes they only take guests who have been double vaccinated but, guess what, you cannot enter the island as a visitor unless you are jabbed.
I would definitely come back to SJC again and again.

You can tell this place is under new owners/management. Upon arriving, the front desk was less than helpful and not welcoming. I asked immediately if there was an ATM on site so we could tip our taxi driver and was simply told “no” to later find out from a local drug dealer on the beach that you can get cash back at the front desk. No drug use here, but a helpful dealer none the less!

They didn’t know if they offered room service, but we did later find out you could take food to go which was never disclosed by anyone. You have to book your reservations for dinner many nights in advance or you’ll have to eat at the buffet every meal. It’s a very long reservation line and people are scrambling to get into dinner spots. The food was difficult to eat. I cannot emphasize enough how bad the food is, however the fruit is really good!

We called the front desk to reserve two tickets to the “Joy Cruise” - a must do activity not affiliated with the hotel. And when we went down to claim our tickets there was no indication that they even took down our reservation.

We scheduled a bag pick up service for the day of leaving and no one ever came. They didn’t have record of us ever scheduling cab service so we had to schedule a new one at a higher price.

Pros: good beach views from our room. Staff at restaurants were friendly.

Would not go back or recommend.
