we had a wonderful 3-night stay at the spice house. the grounds are gorgeous and the pool area is a gem. the room has many special touches including toiletries which are refilled daily, artwork and fresh flowers, ample storage space, and a mini fridge. the peacock room comes with 2 separate outdoor areas to enjoy the scenery; a daybed and...

First off let me start with why I am giving The Spice House 3 stars and not the 5 that it should have. At breakfast one day I sat down in one of the chairs at the table and the chair broke. I told Wathsala immediately and right away she just started talking about money "oh no, this is going...

When I started planning our family trip to Sri Lanka, I found the Spice House online and wanted to end our adventure there. Unfortunately we could not get a room initially, but a couple of weeks before we left for our trip I enquired again, and luckily for us, there was now a vacancy. How lucky were we! After 9...

We stayed in The Spice House for six nights as a party of ten occupying the five upstairs rooms in the main house. Firstly, Phil and Watsala are great hosts and nothing was too much trouble organising tuk tuks and mini buses for us whenever we needed them. The hotel feels more like a private house rather than a hotel...

We stayed 3 nights with my wife at the Spice House in Mirissa. Without a doubt the best place we have stayed during our trip in Sri Lanka. Phil and his wife and wonderful hosts and we enjoyed every single minute of our stay at their place. The rooms are stunning (we got the lemongrass) the pool is wonderful and...

This place is truly special, from the minute you arrive and met by the wonderful owners it's hard to know where to start. The house is only a few minutes from the beach but it feels as if you are in the jungle. The gardens and pool area are simply stunning. There are so many places to sit relax and...

After reading all the reviews I had high expectations of The Spice House and it even exceeded my expectations! Thank you so much Phil and Watsala and all of the staff who make this place so fantastic. We originally booked for 3 days but loved it so much we stayed for 8 nights in total. We have stayed in a...

The Spice House run by Wathsala & Phil was, without a doubt, the nicest place we have stayed during our 9 day Sri Lanka Trip with all Hotels/Guesthouses being in a similar price bracket. Beginning to end was a wonderful experience. I really don't know where to start. I would like you to know all the things which make this...

We stayed for 4 nights as a family of 4, children aged 11 and 7 and we stayed in the Vanilla Room. This is an excellent, small boutique guest house. It's location wasn't quite as we'd expected, the road is busy and a tuk tuk is the best mode of transport to go anywhere really! But the house and gardens...

We had a fantastic stay at the spice house. The owners were lovely and extremely helpful. They arranged Tuk Tuks and a whale watching tour. They also offer a cookery demonstration in the afternoon which was excellent. Rooms are well appointed and beds are comfy and come with mosquito nets. There is a ceiling fan and we were able to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Spice House, Mirissa is a beautiful Colonial style guesthouse with its own private swimming pool set in a peaceful, landscaped garden full of tropical flowers, fruits, spices, ponds & hammocks. It is ideally situated only one minute from a beautiful, reef protected bay & 1km from the main bustle of Mirissa beach. The guesthouse is English owned by an experienced traveller and his Sri Lankan Wife which allows us to offer our guests the perfect mix of Western comfort & luxury alongside Sri Lankan charm & service - we like our guests to feel like part of the family. The house is shaded by coconut palms & cinnamon trees to the front while the back is terraced which allows wonderful views over the surrounding jungle. Local wildlife is often seen in our garden with daily visits from monkeys, kingfishers, peacocks, woodpeckers & squirrels. We can also help with Airport transfers & booking whale watching trips during the season (November - April). ... more   less
