We just spent 4 nights in this wonderful place. So many things to enjoy about it, all made even better by the wonderfully warm and knowledgeable hosts. I highly recommend this place for anybody looking to get the most of their experience in Valle D'Itria and who appreciate a laid back, quiet and personal touch.
We stayed for nights and loved Genovese. Superb staff, clean rooms, good food, welcoming and relaxed vibe, great pool, authentic Masseria decor, peaceful location. Close to Ceglie Messapica and Ostuni if you want to visit a bigger city.
We stayed at Masseria Genovese for four days in the middle of a three-week trip to Puglia, and it was the absolute highlight for us. The property is beautiful—it is a lovingly restored 500-year old farmhouse, set in olive groves, and located down narrow country roads about 5-10 minutes’ drive from the lovely hilltop town of Ceglie Messapica. The rooms (in converted stables!) are extremely comfortable; the pool is fabulous with plenty of places to relax in sun or shade; the gardens and landscaping are gorgeous. Our hosts, Gianfranco and Sara, were absolutely delightful and could not do enough for us. Sara makes a delicious breakfast spread every morning (complete with wonderful pastries, fresh figs and apricots from their trees, cheeses, meats, spreads, etc.), which we ate outside on the long table in the garden. Gianfranco took us to see the nearby mozzarella factory on his early morning run to pick up cheese for the breakfast, and we got to taste warm, fresh mozzarella that had come from a cow milked hours earlier—incredible! We used the Masseria as a base for exploring the Valle d’Itria. It is pretty easy to get to places like Alberobello (very touristy; only worth a quick stop); Locorotundo (loved it—a beautiful village not to be missed); Ostuni (lovely and definitely worth seeing, but be aware that there are tons of stairs); Cisternino (very nice); and Martina Franco (didn’t like as much as the others, but worth going for the restaurant Mehta). It is also easy to hang out at the Masseria during the day and go to explore these towns and eat there when it’s a bit cooler and when the towns come to life in the early evenings. Ceglie Messapica also has lots of good restaurant options. We also enjoyed borrowing the Masseria’s bikes and exploring the local country roads, petting the friendly resident horses, and taking tons of photographs of this beautiful place. I would go back to Masseria Genovese in a heartbeat. We miss it already! Thank you, Gianfranco and Sara, for a truly memorable stay.…
Beautiful old stone farmhouse complex done up very thoughtfully to create a fabulous modern holiday destination in the middle of Puglia with easy access to a number of charming surrounding medieval towns. With only eight rooms and a policy of no children or pets, it is a tranquil oasis nestled in gorgeous countryside of meadows and olive groves. There are two stunning courtyards and a pool outside with lots of space to sit and relax in sun or shade. We had seen all the other reviews detailing the amazing breakfast and we were not disappointed. The Messeria is an hour from Bari airport and about 40 mins from Brindisi. It is ten minutes from Ceglie Messapica, fifteen from Ostuni or Cisternino and twenty Martina Franca or Locorotondo. Hosts Gianfranco and Sara were utterly delightful and could not have done any more for us. They started with excellent communication before our arrival, even sending us a location link by Whatsapp on the day of our expected arrival to make sure we didn't have any trouble finding the place. They gave thoughtful local recommendations on cycling routes, sightseeing and dining, and rang ahead to book tables for us. …
This walled masseria centuries old, charmingly renovated with a lovely pool that has countryside views, is situated not too far off the road...but far enough that you feel the quiet and are nestled in rolling hills. Gianfranco, our host, could not have been more accomodating and welcoming. He helped with locating a great beach that was quiet, yet had access to a great restaurant. Beaches are quick to get to on both coasts, although the pool is tempting at any time. The rooms are very comfortable, lovely amenities, views vary of the atmospheric courtyards, or across the hills... air conditioned if you need it, but cooled by the thick walls. All is tastefully decorated with antique pieces and modern, in artistic juztaposition. I was in love with the breakfast room. Breakfast was a delight for the senses, with local delicacies of cured meats, cheeses, pastries, fresh juicy fruits of the region, an assortment of freshly juiced fruits and coffee, espresso, and teas waiting for you every morning. In an airy open room, the hostess will help guide you to a great day of sightseeing and Gianfranco has many suggestions to enhance your stay in this really fascinating area of Italy. It is my kind of trendy, ages old architecture, modern amenities, local foods, real people, a true Puglia experience. I will go back!!…
