#8 of 30 B&Bs / Inns in Ceglie Messapica
Welcome! Our B&B, Il Grillo dalle Ali Turkesi, is the ideal place for a relaxing stay in the Alto Salento area of Puglia. We are centrally located between Ceglie Messapica and Villa Castelli -- an area renowned for its good food and fresh air -- and near many historic points of interest as well as the natural beauty of the Ionian and Adriatic Seas. Clean air, open spaces and an almost untouched nature provide a welcoming environment for both couples and families. Surrounded by the wild charm of typically Mediterranean vegetation and nestled in a forest of pines and oaks, the house is situated on a hill in the Itria Valley. The three hectare property overlooks groves of olive, almond and fruit trees. Against this bucolic backdrop, our donkeys, peacocks, guinea fowl, and chickens roam freely. We use organic methods to produce our own homemade olive oil, vinegar, olives, capers, bread, jams, seasonal produce and more. Our commitment to green living extends to the house itself, which is powered and heated by solar panels. We have two bedrooms available, each with air conditioning, a double bed and a single bed, as well as two bathrooms. The kitchen serves as both a cozy breakfast spot and a place to relax and socialize at any time of day

My husband, 7 month old baby and I stayed with Rita and Vittorio in August 2017. The room was clear, modern bathroom and the design of the house was impeccable! Rita prepared us an amazing dinner and breakfast that to this day we agree was the best gnocchi we had our entire trip! Everything thing was homemade by them and supplied from their farm or a neighbors - from fresh roasted almonds, fresh squeezed juice, vegetables, salads, cured meats, wine. It was a stand out night of our trip. I'd recommend this for people who want to get off the beaten path, off the grid a bit and relax, be in nature, play games, have quality conversation, walk the grounds. Thank you for your hospitality! Sorry it took us sooo long to put this review up!

Writing this review is actually a monumental task, because it is very hard to put into words just how wonderful Rita and Vittorio were. We want to do it justice but one really must experience their hospitality in person to understand. We stayed at Il Grillo dalle ali Turkesi for three days, to attend a wedding nearby. As tourists unfamiliar to the area, we were a little nervous initially to be farther away from Ostuni, but we had no idea that this was the best choice we could have made for accommodations. First of all, the property itself is beautiful. It is very peaceful, with a charming exterior that sits in harmony with the surrounding nature. Vittorio invests his heart into taking care of the land, and it shows in the produce and food that he and Rita prepared for us. Rita focuses on the building, the living space, and the decor, and it looks like something straight of a travel magazine. The exterior has multiple lovely sitting areas for enjoying a summer morning or sunset, and the interior is decorated carefully and lovingly. The house is full of personal touches and charm, but the accommodations are very modern too. There is air conditioning, a bathroom with hot and cold water immediately available, and their property is 90% sustainable with solar power and literal farm-to-table food. Rita and Vittorio themselves elevate the experience beyond the amazing property. They are inviting, warm, and people who truly care about their guests' well-being and enjoyment. Rita's cooking is incredible and I have not tasted such fresh, thoughtful food before. She makes everything from savory omelettes to sweet cakes and her presentation is impeccable. The two of them are always willing to chat about your day, your travel plans, and provide recommendations, but will also give you your space if you'd like. We became true friends, talking about our lives with them, sharing food and conversation about past experiences and future dreams. I cannot believe how much more this B&B experience turned out to be than a safe place to sleep - I feel like I made true friends and learned about what it is truly to live in harmony with Southern Italy. A thousand times thanks to Rita and VIttorio and I hope all others are lucky enough to visit their home.

Vittorio gave us such a lovely welcome, once we found the house, it was a little tricky as there are no signs and no other directions than the main road from an address perspective. He welcomed us with a delicious refreshing drink that was home made. Rita was equally as warm and welcoming and together they make a great team. Breakfasts were delicious, they were kind enough to host dinner one evening which was lovely. The location was great for us as we wanted to explore the small towns around the area and Ceglie Messapica was our favourite, very quaint and lots of delicious restaurants to dine, minus the tourists, hurrah! I hear they're getting wifi soon, which would just make things more convenient when you're planning trips etc and you need to look up addresses or map your routes. Be sure to visit, you won't be disappointed!

We stayed with Rita and Vittorio in August, during our road trip around Puglia, and it was a very relaxing and peaceful break. The house is down a track (quite hard to find!) and surrounded by the land on which Vittorio works unless he is greeting his guests with a home-made mint syrup! Rita also makes the most incredible pastries - breakfast was amazing. We also had a really nice dinner with them and their friends one lovely evening. Ceglie Messapica is such a cool little town that oozes charm. Good restaurants too. Would fefinitely recommend.

It was one of the most wonderful experiences we've ever had. Their house and garden is absolutely beautiful, and we were welcomed with such warmth (and a refreshing homemade mint drink!) We loved sharing stories and cultures with Rita, and Vittorio kindly introduced us to their many animals. Breakfast was a real highlight (Rita's tiramisu is top notch), and we were so happy we were able to enjoy some absolutely delicious homegrown, homemade and home-cooked food on our last night. That was a truly unforgettable experience! If you want a unique, relaxing and heartwarming experience, stay at Vittorio and Rita's. It'll be the highlight of your trip.
