Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.

We found Shinjuku an excellent base for our first trip to Tokyo, and the Sunroute sits in a great location close to the railway station south gate but in a relatively quiet street. The hotel was very comfortable, great service (as was the case pretty much everywhere in Japan).

You have 2 options for that flight time. Stay near the airport or take the early taxi. The bus is too much of a gamble. You can probably ask for a quote from the taxi. You can then decide which would be cheaper/easier for you. Had the same flight and took the taxi to make sure I got there on time. It cost me £70.

All the rooms at the Sunroute Plaza are normal rooms as if you found at any nice hotel. I believe the issue with the elderly, would be that the Bathroom facilities would not be sufficient for having a shower. This is due to most hotels or nearly all would have a bath shower combo setup. This would be difficult for elderly with bad legs or unstable on their feet. As you would find in all of Japan that the culture is about hot baths after a shower. the bathrooms are big and the bath tubs are western size. this would be the only real option you may have. Another recommendation is to find a hotel which has a Onsen. This way they don't have to climb into a bath to have a shower.
