I had a late flight and left my luggage in the hotel for a few hours. I asked how to get to Narita, expecting a brief explanation, and she started explaining every detail and I said I would get the maps later on. She left a note in the luggage with the maps. It was very thoughtful of her.
Like every hotel and hostel in Japan, rooms come with an assortment of amenities like shampoo (not that little sample thing), fabric refresher spray, etc. Products were all of good quality (body soap does not leave hands dry).
Location is really good and Asakusa is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Tokyo. Bed is very comfortable, and towels are fluffy. Room has plenty space, including the bathroom - which is a rare thing in Tokyo.
I just don’t understand how come my non-smoking room costs more than a smoking room.
The rooms are relatively ok as far as rooms in Tokyo go, and staff is very courteous, polite and helpful. We had the hotel breakfast, and these are good too: I especially love the morning curry, which became my addiction for the remainder of our stay. Breakfast is a mix of Japanese and continental and they change it enough so that it's still nice even if you eat there for a few consecutive days.
All in all great place to stay, awesome staff, good food and superb location! Will definitely book again
The first thing we noticed was how stuffy and humid the room was. In summer sure, but in the middle of winter? At first we tried the aircon, opened the window, but the stuffiness and humidity would not go away. It was almost hard to breathe and i was getting a headache. The windows were constantly fogging up and dripping with condensation.
So we went down to reception to ask about it and i will say that they had a good and helpful attitude, however their only suggestion in the end was to go up and wipe down the windows with a towel. 2 min later they of course fog up again because the problem is with the air/ventilation in the room. The toilet also had a smell like cigarettes.
There were some other minor lacklustre things and i was surprised because Richmond Premier has the best and most professional staff. Anyway we won't be returning to Richmond Asakusa.
Four choices only with the buffet being Japanese style food. No bakery goods, cereals or fruit. Also said my check out is 11 when i paid extra for a 12 check out.
If it weren't for a cheap rate (£40 per night) I would have cancelled after the first night and gone elsewhere.
The room itself is almost fine though. My first night I found so many hairs everywhere. It seemed that the carpet had not been cleaned well enough and thwy travelled onto my clothes and socks. Bed is ok, pillows aren't great. Fridge is useful. Lots of power sockets. Bathroom is a weird modular room but no other problems. The amount of little amenities they provide is excellent. Ear buds, flannel, tooth brush, toothpaste, razor etc... You can ask for bath salts and other things at reception too.
I was in room 702 which had a view of the Tokyo Skytree. The room (a Precious Single) was quite small from a Western point of view but in line with other Japanese hotel rooms I was in on this trip. The bed was comfortable, there was a small amount of storage space (via some drawers and hangars), a handy fridge, dehumidifier, a fairly well fitted out bathroom (I liked the non-fogging mirror) and aircon.
The TV was in a bit of a strange position, but given the room layout it was the only option. But as it’s a smart TV then you can use the apps on there or Chomecast from your device. The hotel WiFi worked fine. My only real problem with the room was that it didn’t have a safe.
As a nice touch there was a free bottle of water in the room each day. In line with Japanese hotels there was soap/shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom and various free other toiletries and bits and bobs in the lobby.
The staff were pleasant and friendly, it was a bit hit or miss as to if they spoke much English or not, but I managed to get by with a little Japanese and Google Translate and no problems with leaving my suitcase before check in for example. My booking had breakfast included, which was in the restaurant on the ground floor. It was buffet style with typical Western options (cereal, cooked, pastries, etc) and more Japanese fare. I was always suitably fuelled for my days of exploring Tokyo.
Overall I greatly enjoyed staying here and would happily do so again.
As far as the area, we couldn't recommend staying in Asakusa enough! It was such a fun and charming area. Being so close to Senso-ji Shrine and all the little shopping booths nearby was awesome. Each night we would walk along the streets and do a little shopping/snacking. Even though it's still city vibes, this area felt a little more cozy and small town, in a way.
It’s a very expensive budget hotel that’s really far from anywhere interesting. Paid about 150K yen for 6 nights. The staff were rude, linen dirty. Our bed linen had a huge brown spot in the middle which they took 5 nights to change.
The laundry machine is old and dirty. Wasn’t able to dry our clothes properly even after drowning ~1100 yen on this. Complaints were met with rude responses. Had to go to a hostel nearby to get this sorted.
Breakfast was playing but again the staff start to take things back at 9:40ish so unless you’re an early riser you might be missing this.
