The room in this small hotel was very clean and nice. The bed was real good. We had a very good dinner for a real fair price. Very nice view from outside the hotel at the pool and quite close to the lake of Saint-Cyr.

This is an easy day's drive when travelling south from Saint Malo. This was the third time we stayed there and this time we had a Superior Room (Room 17). It was more like a self contained cottage with separate bedroom and a small, well equiped kitchen. There were also two additional single beds. The Hotel restaurant, about 10 yds...

Stopped overnight on way to Spain. What a great choice. Warm friendly welcome. Room was a good size with tasteful furnishings and a comfortable bed! We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good and at 18€ for 2 courses we both thought it was excellent value. Overall a charming hotel with great character and excellent staff. Will return.

Stayed for one night en route to the Dordogne. We stayed in the newly built apartment next to the pool. It was spacious, comfy, air conditioned and had a lovely terrace. The hotel is set in gorgeous French countryside and the grounds are beautiful. Dinner was limited in choice but clearly the food is local and made to order. Fabulous....

We stayed at Le Pigeonnier du Perron for one night on our way to southern Spain. It is very convenient for the autoroute and is in a peaceful location. We stayed in a superior room room that had all the facilities. Food in the restaurant was fine. Only complaint was the wifi was terrible. A carrier pigeon would be faster!

We stayed for a single night on 2 days in September and no extra comment but a mini fridge in each bedroom would be a welcome extra facility. Thank you all very much and hope to see you again Alan & Diana ASBRIDGE

Wonderful little Hotel to relax and enjoy real home cooked cuisine sitting outside on a lovely patio, and enjoying the sound of hot air ballons going overhead whilst relishing a superb glass of wine in comfortable surroundings

Ambience, food and staff all excellent. Room and bed a little small. Lovely country setting and farmhouse setting. Dining service slow to start with but worth the wait. I would stay here again especially in summer

Unusual property, we think our bedroom may have originally been the cow shed but it was very comfortable and a good option if you want peaceful accommodation. Breakfast was definitely a highlight and we would recommend the local beer.

What a little gem this hotel is, we stayed here overnight on our way to the Gironde. Its a family run hotel in a brilliant setting, the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They grow much of their own food and buy locally, the menu was different to anything I'd seen before and was delicious. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Did you know that French philosopher Rene Descartes once lived in Poitou-Charentes, more specifically in Availles-en-Chatellerault? His handsome 15th-century residence is now a lovely, distinctive hotel from which guests can admire the square pigeon house that gave the property its name, L'HOTEL LE PIGEONNIER DU PERRON. The peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside is a boon to the 12 rooms and 2 suites. They are full of charm with their parquetry and understated decor. Many have a slightly rustic style with stones and exposed beams. But the modernity and comfort of the furniture places them squarely in our century. They are all equipped with a shower or bathtub and an LCD flat screen TV with DTT. Some also have a telephone, Wifi, air conditioning, a DVD player, hairdryer, and/or heated towel rack. The dining room is warm and also reveals signs of the past, creating a unique setting where guests savour traditional cooking prepared with seasonal products, particularly fresh vegetables. The garden at Le Pigeonnier du Perron is a splendid venue with authentic charms. You can take your breakfast here, or laze around the pool, play table tennis or shoot hoops. You will be much better off here than on the beaches of Charente-Maritime! Because Availles-en-Chatellerault is near Poitiers and Chatellerault, you will undoubtedly leave this hotel in Poitou-Charentes for long enough to visit the Futuroscope as well as the Moulin de Chitre, Chateau de Dissay, the Descartes Home and Museum, and the Pinail Nature Reserve. European Eco label. Qualite Tourisme label. Seminars. Family friendly. Access for guests with reduced mobility. Quiet destination. Car park. No pets allowed in restaurant. ... more   less
