We called and spoke to a woman known as Deirdre the day before our visit and opted for kleftiko on the menu. This was based on her own recipe cooked in red wine. A party of five looking forward to a twist on this traditional dish. The steep climb to the Gardens of Irini was a challenge but well worth... More

Beautiful setting in Bellapais, well worth the short climb up for a cool drink and lovely home cooked food, and wonderful welcome. Sit in the shade of the orange tress and enjoy the sound of the fountain.

Lovely location but gosh, the landlady was awful! Such a spiky and unfriendly lady, the children were terrified of her and we cut our stay short to get away from her. I agree with the five "terrible" reviews. The most unpleasant host experience I have had in twenty years of traveling the eastern med!

Where to start? With the cold, damp, smelly, dirty accommodation or the owner? The studio needs to be cleaned, aired, and the hot water heater needs to be fixed- after hours of trying we got no further than a dribble of heat. The bed was dirty, the sheets smelt mouldy and as with everything else it was covered with animal... More

This is a splendid place to stop for a drink / lunch if you have time on your visit to Bellapais. The brandy sour is particularly good. The garden, the music, the company are all brilliant. Well worth the walk up the hill.

We stayed in early January when it was bitterly cold. I found the place really interesting and the food was good. However, as the large room we were all sleeping in was only heated with one gas heater (we could have got wood for the fire at extra cost), it was uncomfortable. I should have checked beforehand but I was... More

Having read about this in the Bradt guide written by Diana Darke we made a determined effort to visit. Having climbed the from the Abbey following the signs and passing the former home of Lawence Durrell(now named Bitter Lemons),we arrived at the gardens. It is a most charming and relaxing spot filled with lovely plants and flowers, with the sound of... More

The Gardens of Irini are simply the BEST place to stay if you want peace and tranquility, great food and good company and a taste of what the Mediterranean and Near East once was before all the high-rise hotels and package tours. Deirdre is a wonderful hostess and cook and her drinks - especially her lemonata and brandy sours -... More

After 12 trips to North Cyprus, I cannot believe we have never found this place before! We heard of Deirdre through the Solo's representative at Bellapais Monastery Village where we always stay. We always feed the cats and this last trip there was a tiny kitten which wasn't at all well and Jane suggested taking him up to Deirdre (who... More

“The Studio has a large double bed and is on one level. Lily Cottage can sleep three with a large double bed and a large single with the kitchen and bathroom downstairs via a spiral staircase. Both have kitchens - Lily Cottage's is larger and has a full-size dining table - and good bathrooms with full-length baths and over-head showers. Lily Cottage has a private terrace accessed from the kitchen with a stone table and benches. The Studio has a private garden with trees and flower beds, a fountain and outside chairs.”
