Detailed Reviews
I just returned from a three day mini vacation to Waterton area, staying at the Waterton River Suites. I cannot imagine a better place to disconnect from work and day to day life and reconnect with nature, family or friends or even yourself! An easy, scenic drive to Waterton National Park, the Waterton River Suites is located along the Waterton River. We were greeted by a mama deer and her fawn as we pulled up. Sitting outside on the veranda, while enjoying a glass of wine, we were entertained by various species of birds, two deer families and at dusk, a conversation between two great horned owls - a conversation that went well into the night. In the morning, while having coffee, we watched a grizzly quickly ascent the valley across the river from us and moments later a buck cautiously sniffing the air and retreating along with his herd obviously still detecting the scent of a grizzly close by. The accommodation itself was extremely well kept! Having managed similar types of accommodations, I know log cabins take a bit of extra effort - they tend to be more prone to very noticeable cobwebs and dust. These accommodations were immaculate! The passion hosts, Mike and Terri have in providing clean, welcoming, mountain accommodations while sharing their piece of paradise is palpable. If you are an independent, self-sufficient traveler, that does not want or require a lot of 'concierge' type service; this is the perfect place.

Truly can't say enough about this beautiful place. It offers everything a cabin lover could want...views, serenity, privacy, and incredible sleep. The beds are amazingly comfortable. The breeze off the river keeps the rooms cool, and you can sleep with your windows open and listen to the sounds of the river. There is plenty of wildlife to see, and the cabin is only a short drive from Waterton. We cannot wait to come back and share this place with our family and friends.

Wonderful hosts and beautiful location. Have been there on our own and with the kids and both times were amazing. Can't wait to go back again! Location is private, lack of light pollution makes star gazing a must, and the view of the river valley is magical.

The location is truly gorgeous. Hidden in a valley overlooking the river with the rockies stretched across the sky. Wildlife is abundant with mule deer just outside your door. The acommodations are 5 star all the way. Solid wood cabins with cosy and tasteful decor make you feel right at home.
Terri and Mike are consumate hosts and have created one of the best BnBs you will find anywhere. Not to be missed.

A fairytale location with a truly foothills feel. Looking over the river from your cozy cabin while the Waterton Range is gorgeous in the distance. A beautiful place to sit and have breakfast
The hamlet of Waterton is cute and close by and the visitors center and waterfall capture the imagination of a simpler time.

Our stay at the Waterton River Suites was very quite, peaceful and relaxing. Lots of deer sighting with baby fawns, blue grouse hens, different species of birds, an owl right on our railing made our trip complete. Our unit was very clean, cosy and we were able to barbecue steaks on the outdoor BBQ.
We did a day trip to Waterton Lakes, Cameron Falls and Red Rock Canyon. Unfortunately the road to Cameron Lake was still closed. Our hosts Terri and Mike are friendly and very helpful. We have recommended this secluded hidden gem to our family members and plan to come back in the future.

It is about a 25 minute drive from the gates of Waterton National Park the last 8.5 kilometres are on a gravel road -well-graded and maintained when we used it, nervewracking in a rental that was not an SUV, worth being forewarned about. The welcome was warm and cordial and we were shown up to one of two adjoining cabins across a creek from the main house . There was a decent verandah to sit out on and it overlooked the Waterton River and the mountains beyond. An idyllic setting. The cabin was comfortable and the living area spacious and clean with all the necessary kitchen equipment, and a good gas BBQ. The fly-screen door didn't fit properly which meant we had to have the main glass door shut making it slightly airless and stuffy but these are the sort of foibles one expects . The hot tub was stoked and ready to use and was a pleasure later on. It would have been lovely to have it again on our second night but it was not to be as the fire was not lit. First BUT The bedroom was fine except for four extraordinarily dim, orange, ceiling lights which were near useless, a bedside table and light on one side of the bed and on the other side a large indoor plant - obviously nobody had told them about the oxygen absorbing properties of plants in a bedroom but, more importantly you wouldn't want to nor could you read on that side of the bed unless you used a torch as we did!.The second BUT - Breakfast We arrived at about 5:30pm and were told that breakfast would be brought up around 7:30 . I thought it would be delightful having breakfast brought to the room until I discovered that she meant 7:30pm that evening! It turned out to consist of two croissant and two rather odd cinnamon rolls with UHT cream and a bowl of fresh berries . The fruit was fresh and delicious the next morning , stale croissant with no jam or preserves were not the greatest delight and the rolls were not to my liking but then I don't have a sweet tooth . This was clearly surpassed the next evening when we were treated to a plastic packet of rounds of pre-cooked supermarket "bacon" , still in their glorious supermarket wrapping and an extraordinary baked confection described as "cheese souffle " . We passed this up altogether and fled. We noticed others remarking on how wonderful the breakfasts were but by the standards of other B&B in North America that we have experienced these were appalling -maybe potentially returning Canadians fared better . The wifi was great except that after the power failure on the second night it did not work but that was fair enough, I guess it needed to be reset. It is in a very peaceful, attractive setting but the gravel road and the terrible breakfasts would mean I could never recommend it

Response from WRS80, Owner at Waterton River Suites
Responded Sep 11, 2011
Despite the travel directions that were emailed upon confirmation, these guests were surprised to find a gravel road leading to the property. Few (if any) of our hundreds of visitors have felt compelled to rent an SUV regardless of snow conditions … but in August, this shouldn’t have been a factor. Upon request, we would have graciously assisted with the bedroom light dimmer switch and removed the (artificial) silk plant to prevent possible oxygen depletion. Subject to weather conditions, we strive to have the wood-fired hot tub available at least once per visit, often more frequently. On the day in question, winds gusted to over 70 km/ph with threatening clouds … the property consists of log and square-timber buildings and is surrounded by over 20,000 acres of tinder-dry ranchlands. Bathers often forget that the tub’s chimney would serve as an excellent lighting rod. It seems to us that prudence would dictate that responsible hosts must be selective when firing up. At the Waterton River Suites we take pride in offering our guests modern self-contained suites in an “idyllic setting”. Given their hiking and Park touring plans and varying schedules, most guests prefer the flexibility of breakfasting in their suite at their convenience. Many visitors have complemented the cook on her Cheese/Egg/French bread “soufflé”; a few have requested the recipe. Six medallions of premium Canadian smoked back bacon typically accompany the breakfast soufflé. For sanitary reasons (and to assure guests of freshness), the bacon is placed in your suite’s fridge in its original hermetically sealed packaging. Alberta’s B&B regs prohibit serving meat, milk and eggs purchased from a farm, thus the need to serve “supermarket bacon”. Appalling! An idyllic river-side setting, a separate timber guest-house, private suites instead of bedrooms, far from the madding crowd and close to nature … no set-time breakfasts or small talk with strangers first thing in the morning. Not your Usual B&B indeed. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this critique. However, we prefer to make every attempt to resolve these types of concerns while our guests are on-site so that your stay at the Waterton River Suites is as enjoyable as possible.

If you are looking for a secluded getaway, excellent accommodation and close to the mountains, look no further. We loved the rustic guest house where we enjoyed peaceful, quiet nights, wide-open space, an excellent hostess and an array of wildlife. Our hostess provided our breakfast the night before in order that we might wake and eat at our leisure.( two delicious breakfasts as well) Beds were comfortable, water pressure for showers excellent, clean and a cozy atmosphere. We mostly saw birds and deer, but others before us have seen other wildlife as well. You could sit on the deck and just enjoy the beautiful view. We were a little disappointed on our river walk. There really isn't a very good trail and you can't walk along the river which we had wanted to do. The mosquitoes were pretty bad down by the river. Another drawback for some might be the long drive from the main highway on a gravel road. It is not close to any stores so make sure you do your shopping ahead of time. The owners and hosts were very nice and accommodating. This would be a great place for a retreat!

We just got back from a few days at Waterton River Suites over the Christmas holidays and it was amazing. Peaceful & beautiful. The suite had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday - Terry and Mike have done so much to create a special place. During the winter Terry will make dinners and deliver them to your door. The food was amazing! I would highly recommend staying a few days and enjoying the tranquillity and the food!

This is an excellent accommodation for those who want to enjoy the sounds of nature. The property is nestled near the river; though one cannot readily see it from the site, one can hear it if one takes a moment to listen for it. A nearby path offers a five minute walk down to the river. There is no TV or radio in the accommodation, and given the tranquility of the setting, one won’t miss either. Leave your Ipod at home; unplug and relax.
The accommodations are one 8 year old structure that houses two cabins under one roof. A utility room sits in the middle of the structure, so there is no common wall between the two cabins even though they share the same roof. The owners live on the property and maintain the cabins meticulously. Everything is clean and in good repair.
From the cabin's main room picture window, one has an unobstructed view of the Rockies. Watching the Rockies change from a flush of pink with the first rays of morning sun to a clear blue is a particular delight if you are awaking in the sofa bed (which is quite comfortable for a sofa bed).
Breakfast is included and is delivered by the owner the evening prior. Anything that needs to be heated up can be placed in the cabin's microwave the next morning. This is actually a rather nice arrangement, as one can eat early or late, showered or not, as one prefers. The breakfast items are well prepared and seemingly proven to lend themselves to this arrangement.
There aren’t many dinner options about, so we used the grill to cook meat we purchased at the Co-op Market in Pincher Creek. Veggies were fresh, grilled, or micro-waved. If you need an additional cooking implement or two, the owner is generally happy to oblige.
Waterton and Glacier National Parks are a very short, easy drive away. Take your passport and plan to see both.

I’m not sure. The best thing to do would be email the owners. It won’t let me post the website but it’s easy to find if you google Waterton River Suites
Unfortunately, not. Two years ago, our health department introduced strict guidelines that made it economically unfeasible to keep it running.
Indeed! Right out your front door.
Each of our 1 bdrm suites sleeps 2-4 people. There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom and a double sofabed in the living area. Unfortunately, we are fully booked for the nights of August 5 & 6. Our next availability for 1 suite is Aug. 8, 13 & 14th or both suites August 9, 10, 11 & 12. Not sure if these dates might work for you, but thought I would throw it out there. Google Waterton River Suites and booking may be done online via our secure website. Thank-you for your inquiry. We look forward to the opportunity to host you and your family.
I am sorry, but in consideration of our other guests allergies and comfort, we must adhere to our no pet policy. Thank-you for your inquiry, Cindy. We hope you are able to find alternate pet friendly accommodation and wish you an enjoyable stay while visiting the Waterton Lakes Park area.
Kind regards, Terri Vidricaire
