Travellers' Choice
Delightful B & B in the centre of Bampton providing three lovely bedrooms with en suite/private facilities. Our award winning breakfast is served round the large dining table at a time to suit our guests. Bampton is a conservation village in the foothills of Exmoor National Park, 40 minutes from both the South and North Devon coasts. Heron House is an adult only B & B, but is pet friendly to smaller well behaved dogs, for which there is a small charge.

Charming 18th century house in picturesque village of Bampton. Friendly and direct landlady (Fiona) made us feel very welcome and allowed us to use her washing machine. Delicious breakfast, well-appointed rooms, comfortable bed. Fabulous!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Fiona her home has lots of character as does Fiona. We stayed in the four poster room which has a standard double 4’6” bed , tea/coffee making facilities, TV, and hairdryer and a lovely huge en suite bathroom. With bath sheets that will wrap around you twice. The room does face the front of the building but we slept absolutely fine with the window open. There are personal items in the drawers of the room but enough empty for your own items. Breakfast was spot on and will keeping you going till your evening meal with lots of choice on the menu. We spent an evening in Fionas lovely garden with a bottle of vino and enjoyed the peace of a small village. Fiona does have three beautiful working cockers and accepts dogs at the property and does state quite clearly that if you don’t like dogs or have a phobia to find alternative accommodation which is fair enough. We would recommend if booking to stay at Heron House that you book a restaurant in advance, as there are very few eating places in town and they do get booked up. The swan is very good.

Set in a superb location with access to both Devon coasts and the countryside this B&B is excellent. The owner is extremely welcoming, and may I add she is an excellent cook . (the food was so good perhaps I should say chef). This charming period house was pleasure to stay at and our bedroom, which had a four poster bed was spacious and very comfortable , as was the en suite bathroom. It is certainly somewhere I would thoroughly recommend . A most enjoyable stay and somewhere we will go back to

Can’t really fault Heron House and its owner. It is a charming and beautifully decorated BandB with a very personal touch. Indeed, it is clearly a family home. We had a large double en suite with a view over the attractive garden. Fiona’s breakfast was excellent with home made fruit compote. I would gladly return.

Thank you for your very gracious review of your stay last weekend. Your family were delightful guests and I was so pleased for you all that for once the weather behaved and the wedding celebrations you were attending locally were able to hold the service and reception outside. If you are passing this way again, it would be lovely to welcome you as our guests at Heron House.

We stayed at Heron House for a weekend as we had a wedding in the area. Fiona, the hostess, was very welcoming. The house itself is beautifully decorated with lots of wonderful pieces of furniture and pictures. Fiona used to work in the field of interior decorating and it shows. The room had a wonderful four poster bed and was fully equipped with kettle/tea etc. A big bathroom well supplied with toiletries. The breakfast was absolutely stupendous. We offered a wide choice of delicious food. Everything was on offer - orange juice, fresh fruit (with special serrated knives to cut the fresh pineapple!), sumptuous yogurt, home made compote, home made jams and anything you would like in terms of cooked breakfasts. It was all delicious. I cannot recommend it more highly - a wonderful stay.

Wow, a very generous review indeed, thank you so much. All the ingredients for our Breakfasts come from within the village as we are blessed with great little shops. The weather could not have been better for your visit to Bampton and the Bride I am sure could not believe her luck, as all her guests were gathered outside the church for the ceremony, can you imagine what it would have been like in the rain?! I hope Guy enjoyed his Kipper, I suspect it will be a long time before he is offered another one! Best wishes Fiona
