We took a boat ride out to Santa Cruz Island for the day. We had a lot of fun walking the trails along the island. The views were amazing. Be sure to bring all you need for a day out because there are no facilities other than the water spigot and toilets at the campground. We packed a cooler full...

The Channel Islands National Park is just one of the reasons that I'm grateful on a daily basis that I live in Southern California. Santa Cruz Island and Scorpion Beach and campground are probably the most accessible of the campgrounds and the beach is probably the best (if not only) place to go kayaking in the Park. Scorpion campground is...

Camping with no cars, no bugs and no predators bigger than a cat! Awesome! Hike from the boat dock is quite manageable at about .25 miles. Because everything has to be hauled in and out, there is a pleasant lack of "stuff" which helps nurture the connection with the beauty and peace of the place. Hanging out in the campgound...

I just went to the Island for the first time (Oct 2015). I spent several summers on Catalina in Boy Scout camp and have been to Anacapa. I have fished the area around Channel islands many times. This time I was with our local Boy Scout Troop. We had a group of 29. I wrote a review for Channel Island...

Campsites are fine. Toilets are clean and there is running water, but no other facilities available. Outfitters for Kayaking and snorkeling are there but you must book with them prior to going. Kayaking was great! Not a lot to do on the island other than a few hikes.

I camped out the second week of February at Scorpion Ranch. It is truly an amazing place and a great place to camp. We took the Island Packers ferry on a Tuesday. We were surprised that we were the only campers on the ferry.More surprising was the fact that there were no other campers in the upper or lower camp grounds!!...

This review is for the Santa Cruz Island campground at the Scorpion landing. Nice campground, as long as you don't mind pit toilets and no showers. We actually liked the upper campground better than the lower campground; both campgrounds are close together. Lower campground is closer to the shore for hauling gear. There is drinking water available. No campfires but...

We took the morning boat from Ventura pier and rented a kayak for the day that was transported with the boat. Camping is on shaded field with lock boxes for food. Clean outhouses, no showers and no other facilities. There is water spigot, drinkable. We had native foxes and large blackbirds in camp. Hiking was easy hills but a lot...

I brought a troop of middle school Girl Scouts to this Island to have a 1-night backpack camping experience. We camped in March and were very lucky to have stunning weather. We camped in the Scorpion Valley campsites. This portion of the camping is 1/2-1 mile from the pier where the boat lands to the camp sites. We treated this...

We spent 2 night at the Scorpion Ranch campground and we had a great time. The lower loop campground is about 1/2 mile from the beach/harbor, the upper a bit further away. If you are staying for the night, you will have to help with unloading everybody's stuff from the boat (and help to put it back on the boat...

“The upper campground is nicer but a longer walk from the beach. Recommend going on a weekday to avoid crowds and lots of kid tours.”

“Bring a hat and lots of sunscreen, the hiking is very exposed. The Kayaking tours are great and they check out all the caves and give novices like myself a great experience. If you book the trip through a kayaking guide company they likely have carts to help you get your gear from the dock to the camp ground so ask!”
