We hiked up Trillium Gap Trail. Took us 5 hours but we were stopping and looking at a lot of 'stuff' along the way. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the llamas that bring the food and supplies up. We were shown to cabin...More
What a great hiking adventure! Eleven of us ventured up to the Lodge and shared one of the three BR cabins. It was basic and rustic just as advertised...and it was great! Tight and cozy even for a three bedroom cabin. The staff was friendly,...More
After hearing from numerous friends over the years about LeConte, I was able to secure, after hundreds of phone calls the day reservations opened up, a Saturday night stay in a 2-bedroom lodge for myself and 6 girlfriends. Though nervous for over a year about...More
INCREDIBLE! I was worried about our trip to Leconte (like you would worry about a trip up a hiking trail you never climbed, on a mountain you'd never heard of, to a destination you've never been to!) but it surpassed ALL of my expectations! The...More

I agree with the comments made in this post. First, any hike made into any mountainous region needs real planning, not something based on someone's 20 year old memories. Picking a time to visit when the weather is totally unpredictable shows little foresight or understanding of what you can get into even over a few hours time with weather conditions (despite the writer's comments about hiking other world-wide locations). The rules are explicit and we were informed of the same no refund policy when we called and got a last minute reservation. Do I expect it to snow? Hopefully no, but I am smart enough to realize that I had best be prepared for cold weather shoukdnit happen, even in May. And if I can't get up the mountain? Well, call it life. Knowing what we know about Mt. Le Conte and having read a lot of information available on the Internet, this is not a walk in the park. Any "experienced" hiker would know that and this review sounds a lot like someone complaining and blaming others for their own poor planning and decisions.
