This is a Military Recreation Area within Hawaii Volcanoes NP and the location is beautiful. We are retired military and often take advantage of the facilities offered (cafe, general store, bar, etc.) but find the lodging more expensive than staying just outside the park.

The awesome pictures you see online do not relate to all of the cabins. We rented a 3 bedroom, cabin 94. The curtains were ancient, thick polyester lined numbers, which were a problem because 1) there were not enough to cover the entire window (we had to use a beach towel) and 2) they were directly behind our beds. The... More

Lodging was a one bedroom unit with fireplace. Quarters were musty smelling and older. It was equipped with a very tiny microwave and a small refrigerator. It was a good price but queen bed was hard and uncomfortable and only a couch in living area. It was convenient for touring volcano area but not a place to go otherwise.

We were pleasantly surprised on how clean our room was. Really cozy living room and and jacuzzi tub was awesome. The Cafe food was horrible but just 10 mins away are great places to eat. The general store was really convenient. The only complaint that I have is that the bed is too hard and the stain glasses window brings... More

I stayed here from November 2nd to November 4th. I was with my sister her husband and their little girl. It was a wonderful stay. We had 2 rooms. One had a big bed the other had 2 double beds. Very clean and we had a fireplace. It was a little cool up on the mountain so the fireplace was... More

Just a short drive from the visitor center and about 2 miles from the Jagger museum. The accommodations were fine, quite comfortable. One of the quietest places I've stayed. The best place about the camp is the location! Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Clean, comfortable, friendly, quiet, relaxing, rustic, and enjoyable. Close to the Volcano viewing area. This camp has been an important part of our national history. Lots of roads and trails to discover by auto or walking.

KMC has cabins to stay in and are clean, comfortable, roomy. When we made our reservation, I mentioned it was our 25th anniversary and upon check in, the staff gifted a bottle of champagne. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We ate at the cafe behind the Headquarters building, WHICH IS OPEN to ANYONE. Cheaper than National Park hotel... More

We stayed in one of the cottages and ate breakfast everyday at the café. The cottages are similar to large suites and have fireplaces. Although furnishings are old, still in good shape and comfortable. The KMC is VERY convenient, being right in the middle of volcano national park. We saw all the park stops in one day then had two...
