First off, make sure you call in advance of the certain amenities that are provided as it can make or break your entire stay here. When we arrived, we read in the complimentary summer newspaper of the information we should know about and showers and laundry facilities are not provided for the 2022 stay. Fortunately we had a portable shower device attached with a hose to use in replacement of a running shower. They also reverted back to old camping ways where they did not have any flushable toilets or sinks, just the usual pit toilets and water faucet to wash hands. You will have to bring your own gallons of water to brush teeth, clean your cooking utensils and cookware or use for drinking. Using the water faucet for other purposes than washing hands is prohibited by the National Park services. Now I am just talking about this campground site and Upper Stony Creek, not too sure about the nearby other camping ground such as Cove Group Campground or the ones near Grant Grove Village.
The restrooms are well stocked and at least checked periodically by the camp host because I remember one restroom had one toilet paper roll left and in a few hours when I went to use the same one, the rolls of toilet paper were stocked. Of course there is always going to be a smell using pit toilets and flies buzzing around, yet the camp hosts try their best to minimize the smell. by adding scented air fresheners. No lights in them, so if you have to use them at night, you'll have to bring a flashlight or lantern with you.
Campsites are well sized with a double ringed fire pit with a fold-over grate to grill your food as an option. If not, you can stack as many firewood as you want in the fire pit and create your own fire. They do allow collecting of firewood, so definitely bring reasonable resources that will efficiently help you cut the wood that you collect. You can also bring your own or purchase the wood at the local market they have just half a mile or so up the road from the campsite. They even have a gas station located at the market.
Overall, I would say that this campground is great for being in "middle" where you don't have too far of a drive to the local trail heads or landmark sites. If you don't mind not having running showers for the time being, then this is the place to camp. Also campsites were about $35 dollars a night.

We came back from a great camping trip to Sequoia! We stayed at Upper Stony Creek Campground, which in my opinion, was the best campground in the park! It is across the street from Stony Creek, but so much nicer. All the sites were HUGE and most were along Stony Creek! We went on many hikes, my favorites being Crescent Meadow and Indian Basin. Swimming in Hume Lake was also a highlight of the trip, and I also recommend attending ranger programs.

Very nice campground more suitable for tents, pop ups, smallest RV’s and camper vans. Narrow road with multiple speed bumps and tree hazards. We camped in site 30, one of the longest sites offered at our preferred vacation time. Could not find a detailed map or description of our site. Took a chance, we made it in and out without damage to our RV. Have heard a lot of others weren’t so lucky. Great location, very quiet. The stars at night are super bright. Just can’t recommend for any RV of any size.

It is a very roomy campground. The bathrooms are above basic. There are no showers though. We loved our time there. This is not Stony creek but is Sunset Campground. It is near General Grant Grove and the visitors center. There are many hikes nearby. Lake Sequoia is lovely and also close. There is beautiful scenery on the drive to the lake that is breathtaking. There is a gorgeous meadow we played at for two days with a lovely babbling brook. The flowers were blooming everywhere in early July.

Please note: there are 2 campgrounds across from each other: Stoney Creek and Upper Stony creek. We stayed at the latter, and are very glad for it!
So maybe I shouldn't write this.... one of the best things about the campground was that it was so quiet. We didn't plan to camp here, first tried Lodgepole (full) and then Stoney Creek (also full and felt very "packed"), but in the end we were very happy we stayed here. Of 2 weeks camping (with moderately sized camper), this was our most memorable stay.
Only 3 or 4 other campers far far away, very spacious grounds, prints of bear paws everywhere, good sized fire pit, nice ranger, very cheap, store & gasstation close by and only a short drive to wonderfull hiking trails (I recommend The Trail of the Sequoias - beautiful, quiet, ran into a bear ;-)). There are no amenities, save for a tap with cold water and an outhouse, but dumping stations close by.
If you want to camp IN NATURE, hear absolutely nothing at night, experience true darkness, see deer and (if you're lucky - we weren't) bears: this is your spot!

My Family and I have been coming to Stony Creek for 20 years and Love it. I noticed a review that stated the campground is all dirt. The roads and site where you drive and park your vehicles are all paved. Motorized vehicles are not allowed off the pavement. The campground has flush toilets and a mile beyond the campground is a market, hotel and gas station. Yes there are animals, there will be feces. We've seen bears, deer, mountain lions, bats, etc... When you go camping expect the unexpected like bee's, heat, rain and what ever else can happen then make the best of it. We Love Sequoia and Stony Creek Campground and have never had a problem with the camp host, plus the place has always been well taken care of. Sure the place is old but well maintained. We went to Stony Creek last summer and are in the process of going within the next month.

This was a nice place to camp. We reserved the site back in April. This campground is not in the park, its between the two parks on the Generals highway. Stony creek is a large campground . Mostly locals were camping here. There are only 48 sites all very large, it has flush not pit restrooms .The creek flows rite next to the campground and many sites are next to it. We stayed 4 nights at site #3.The bear boxes are very lg 4' X 4' X 17" high set on a cement slab. We seen a bear the first day. It was a yearling and didn't bother anyone. The 2nd nite a car alarm went off about 3am and a few sites where food was left out were rummaged through. Keep all food in the lockers! There were deer in and out of the campground day and nite. This is a great place to camp if you want to avoid all the tourists. Its a 1/2 mile to the store at stony creek lodge and gas station gas was $3.49. There are showers at the store $4.00 for 15 min per person. The pay phone at the store was broken. The showers were disgusting. Lodgepole is 10 miles down the hwy if you want to shower. We stopped in just to look around. The showers there were $3.85 for 8 min and 25 Cents a min for extra mins and line was long. Lodgepole looked like a nice campground, it just had to many tourists for me.

Take the 180. Much smoother and less loopy. Plus there's road work on the 198 at the other entrance. We had to wait an hour in the sun, cars parked. Besides that, Stony creek is in the middle, very far from everything else, but there is a BEAUTIFUL sequioa grove nearby in between Dorst Creek and Stony Creek called the LOST GROVE. It's unmarked, but you'll see cars parked there. I liked the Lost Grove better than the crowds at General Sherman. Lost Grove is the best place for pictures if you camp at Stony creek. Our campsite was great, but sites 20,21,23 had DEER in their campsites every morning, since they were by the woods more. :) The rangers wear white shirts and are pretty nice. The bathrooms have mirrors and sinks, nightlites at night, (Still bring your flashlight) no soap, and 2 flush toliets in the ladies room. The market/ gift shop/ gas station is only like, a mile away, or less. We bought potatoes there one morning. They have showers there and a restaurant. We got a large PIZZA , it was full of cheese and was pretty good. There was a light shower of RAIN every morning even though the forecast for Three Rivers said SUNNY. When the rain did clear up, it was pretty warm, but not hot :) Last but not least, I didn't see any fish in the creek or anyone fishing there. Lots of families and teens. Everyone was really QUIET at night and we didn't encounter any bears. EXTRA CARS ARE $5.00 A NIGHT, NOT BAD AT ALL.

We love stony creek, clean campsites, clean bathrooms and lots of space between the campground. When the stream is up the fishing is pretty good as well. A short drive to Stony Creek Lodge for any forgotten items, ice, showers (which are kind of not so great, Lodgepole is worth the drive to the showers).

We stayed in #12 the first week of June starting on a Monday night for three nights. The campground is easy to find right off the General's Highway. There is a skinny lane that winds around the campground which doesn't allow for 2-way traffic. Our campsite was a "walk-in" which meant we parked by the "road" but walked downhill about 5-7 yards to the camp site which was right next to the creek among the trees. There is a large picnic table and good-sized fire pit ring with a built-in grill grate on hinges that flips on and off of the pit. The site also includes a large bear-proof food storage box. The neighboring camp sites were pretty close to ours but there was enough distance that you didn't feel like you were violating each other's space.
Number 12 was fairly close to the bathrooms. The women's bathroom has 2 sinks w/ mirrors and 2 stalls. The doors don't close well but there are flushing toilets and toilet paper provided. No paper towels or hand dryers. The bathrooms were cleaned each day and kept in good shape by the campground staff who you will see throughout the day on their golf cart.
The campground host was nice and helpful when she could be located. My husband walked to the camp host's site a couple of times trying to acquire firewood and kept missing her. Firewood bundles include about 5-7 logs and cost $8 per bundle. The camp host drives the firewood around to the camp sites in the evenings in case you want to buy any before the sun goes down.
This campground was close to the main road but we didn't notice any traffic noise. The creek was the loudest thing there. This time of year the water was flowing pretty fast and is probably a bit louder than later in the year when the snow has already melted.
There are plenty of trees around for hanging clotheslines, hammocks, etc. We had a few choices on where to put our tent. There was a small trail next to the creek and some very large boulders worth climbing. If you want to cross the creek you need to walk up to the main road and use the bridge.
Less than half a mile north of the campground is the Stoney Creek Lodge which contains a small store with various supplies and souvenirs. You can buy some food items, camp supplies, and firewood (also around $8 per bundle). They have lodge rooms and public showers as well as a gas station (over $3 per gallon, a bit more than outside the park).
Also noteworthy is the weather...it was warm and sunny each day around the mid 70's but the temp dropped significantly down to around 40 at night so be prepared for the cold. The wind can pick up to at times especially near the creek. Keep this in mind if you are cooking over a grill or camp stove as it can blow out the flame.
We would definitely stay here again.

I did not observe any overflow parking. The entrance to the campground is small and you must immediately turn right to start down the narrow, one-lane road that wraps around the grounds. The host site is immediately on the right at the front. There may have been some limited additional parking spaces on the left of the entrance but you would have to drive around the entire loop til the end to park there. Again, I did not observe any additional parking spaces so I can't say with confidence there is any. The campground is also right on the main thorough fare that runs through the park so there is no parking there either unless you are temporarily pulling over. If may be able to park at the hotel/gas station/giftshop up the road a ways but that would be quite a walk back to the campground.

"We stayed at camp site 17 which was nice. I would recommend sites 9, 11, or 12 if you have kids who like playing around on big boulders. There are also walk-in sites behind those drive in sites that are right next to the creek, a small waterfall and a swimming hole."
