We arrived at this campground after 9pm. A little worried about being able to register for a spot. The ranger at the north entrance of Skyline drive was very helpful. We got there in the rain pretty late and registered fine. Everyone was friendly. The campground and bathrooms were clean. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because...

We decided to plan a last minute camping trip here and had a great time. We got a walk on tent-only spot around 11 pm on Friday night, and spent Saturday hiking and listening to Ranger Talk, and on Sunday we went to the Silver Line Caverns. I wish we were able to stay longer! Also, an FYI to future...

We spent 3 nights here and really enjoyed our trip. The rangers were all friendly and professional, we had a great site, and the bathrooms were kept very clean, but do keep in mind that there are no showers or hot water. When we arrived at the campground, I was allowed to switch sites to one that had a bear...

Almost hesitant to write this review for fear of the place filling up when we want to go! The campground is really nice. Very clean. Bathrooms are clean, although no HOT water and no showers. Toilets are flush and they have cold running water and heated hand dryers. The surrounding hiking trails are beautiful. The reserve-able campsites tend to be...

I have been to MUCH better campgrounds run by the NPS. The sites are close together and it's pretty much a set up your tent wherever you feel like it at your site. There is a picnic table and fire slab for grilling. We stayed here as a place to sleep while hiking/climbing in the park for 2 days, so...

We spent two nights here. Compared to Big Meadows and Loft Mountain, Mathews Arm is more crowded - less spacious sites. Friday night the camp was not full, Saturday night it was - more people walking by, folks talking later into the night. But for $15/night? You cannot beat it. Restrooms are near and clean. We had plenty of room...

This is a very nice campground to take kids and for families, but I would not recommend for couples seeking solitude. There are kids everywhere starting at sunrise which is great for families with children. There are no showers. There are some nice hikes nearby. The nearby waterfall hike is much better in the spring and a trickle in the...

Went for a quick 2-night camping/hike/sightseeing around the Shenandoah area and stayed in one of the non-generator sites. The campsite was clean and well kept, and the bathrooms clean compared to other non-private campgrounds I've been to. The tent pad was nice and neat, and the fire pit was well kept, also. Frequent patrols from the camp hosts and the...

We pulled into the park at 8pm and the ranger pointed us to Matthews arm Campground - should still be a lot of sites available. We got there and selected a site without a problem. However, we had two tents and there wasn't really enough room (B83). We managed it though. The facilities were clean and convenient. We wished we...

One couple made woopie at 2am, 20 campsites discussed hearing it over coffee in the morning. Seems some of the children thought it had been a racoon. Point being, the campsites are quite close together. Good for a get together or boyscout troop. Not so great if you're trying to get away from it all. We went because they accept...
