I have also stayed in Big Meadows and Matthews Arm at Shenandoah NP, but Loft Mountain is my favorite. Sites are well-spaced and surrounded by substantial foliage, allowing for some semblance of privacy. As others have mentioned, the A walk-in campsites also have spectacular views....More

Yes, the best sites are the walk up sites. If you are arriving on Sunday afternoon, you shouldn’t have any problem getting a site. The earlier you are there the better the selection.

Sorry we did not go in April, we went in September. Weather has been very unpredictable, cold and dreary one day, hot another day. At night it can be quite cool.
