We spent one night in Skyland back in June. We took our dog with us and booked a pet friendly room online. Our building was a Franklyn ( one store ) which is little bit far away from the office and dining room, but location...More
This is a special place high up in the area at 3680 feet. It can be suddenly cloudy and wet. It was a welcome relief after very hot and humid DC. Our room was 149 on the upper deck of a block of wooden rooms...More
We'd reserved and paid for a 'preferred' room. Arrived after dark and started to unpack then quickly realised that we were in a pretty basic room. Had to pack up and trail all the way back to the office to get moved to the correct...More

Stayed 2 nights in a renovated room in the "Bushytop" cabins which are about a 10-minute walk from the office and dining room. Really loved the view from the terrace.

There is Wifi in the Dining Room and Bar area and Store and Reservation Desk, some guest rooms. Wifi isn't available staying in many of the rooms, cabins, lodging at Skyland. You can get cell service in Some Locations but Not All of them. Many cabins/rooms people stay in have no internet, no tv and no cell service, no ceiling fan and no AC. Want entertainment in your room, during bad weather? Download to your device before you get to Skyland, Wifi Isn't Strong Enough to download or stream anything. Option is portable projector that can play DVDs on room wall.

You'd need to drive to the trailhead for Old Rag. Check the map or call Skyland to see how far it is from Old Rag. Also note the NPS website: "Old Rag is Shenandoah's most popular and most dangerous hike. The number of blogs and websites about this hike attests to its popularity. The number of search and rescue missions each year attests to its danger. There's no doubt that the scramble is great fun and the views are spectacular. A day on Old Rag is one of Shenandoah's premier experiences. We want to be sure that your experience is not marred by an accident or health issue that could be prevented with good planning."
